We need a contest to create a nickname the L$, like the Canadians did when the $2 coin came out. The Canadian $L coin was known as the "loonie" (mainly because it has a loon on it). The winner for the $2 coin was "twonie", which is what everybody calls it.... "Toonie" or "Toony" not "twonie" ![]() _____________________

I like 'Lick".
I also think 'dot' would make a nice currency. But since this is the Metaverse, what about Kongbucks, or really ludicrously high printed bill amounts like Trillion, Million. Meeses! "Hey guys, get this! chick wants to pay in Meese!" |

Been meaning to do this since I saw the thread yesterday. Not quite what the Linden Dollar looks like now, but what it will look like as Second Life grows into the digital nation of its destiny. I couldn't get this to look as good as I wanted in Photoshop, so I messed around with the material editor and raytracer in Cinema4D until I got something that looked right.
![]() The observant will note the abbreviation HKD in the currency exchange list. Yes, those are Kongbucks. ![]() The bills are flexible, translucent plastic, featuring an electronic ink-style design that allows the bills to be reconfigured digitally. The IPv6 number in the top right allows each bill to be addressable to add/subtract value from it, as well as to allow for refreshing of the currency exchange table. A two-dimensional Datamatrix barcode allows for tracking and authentication of the hardware itself. _____________________

OK. I don't understand the significance of the "Hippo." But since I can practically FEEL that lovely coin with Phillip on it in my fingers, and others like the hippo, I propose the Hippo coin for 1 Linden, and the Phillip one for $10 Lindens.

That would be a nice idea! But that doesn't solve the nickname! Lets just call it the Ben, so that way it's short, simple and.. _____________________

What about ?
08-02-2005 02:02
What about calling them "L's"? We kinda do already, don't we?
Coins or paper or microfilm, I'm not picky. $1 L - Prim block on the front, happy hippo on the back. $25 L - Hippos on the back, Philip on the front (ya know so you can rate someone w/a Phil-L). $100 L - Blank Island Sim on the front, Oldest of the old Linden employees waving hiya! on the back. _____________________
