Fear

What is a fear you have that is really unjustified but yet is.

Mine: I have always had a fear of Sharks. As a child I seen Jaws and been scared ever cense. As a Child we would go down to Florida and I loved going to sea world and watching the Sharks but I was always scared (I am to this day a adrenalin Junky). I use to buy a Shark Figurines there every time we went. I have about 20 of them all different types of sharks (they were stolen :( ). After this fear and love of sharks happen my parents got a pool. Now I live in Chicago land so nothing deadly would be getting in my pool. Every time before getting in I would walk around 4 times looking for……..wait for it …….Sharks. Even going on vacation if I were to get in the hotel pool I would walk around 4 times. I still look for them to this day. My wife sees me do it (I no longer walk just stand at the edge and look) my kids never know. Well I told my kids on Sunday how safe we are from Sharks living in IL. I mean no shark is going to swing in to Lake Michigan. I do know of the Shark attacks in that river out east happened before the civle war but that was a ocean bearing river so I can see that. So here is the part that makes me scared as a child all over again. I turned on TV on Sunday night as my wife was putting the kids to bed. Discovery was on. Shark week. I left it, as my wife sat down they said Bull sharks have been found in the Mississippi River as far north as Illinois.

Moths...I HATE MOTHS!! the big ones you get in summer, that make a ticking sound on the walls as you try to sleep, that appear out of nowhere attacking your screen in the middle of the night, that friends who are aware of your irrational fear drop down the back of your top just to freak you out and the size of the horrible Bastard.. they make me sick, they make me sick :(.

I find butterflys creepy also...

Bugs... especially unnaturally big and/or creepy looking and/or fast moving ones. I had to learn to get close enough to kill roaches when I was in college, because when I moved off campus my roommate wasn't home often... but they still horrify me. And spiders... tiny ones I can live with, unless they turn up somewhere they shouldn't be, but the big hairy ones still scare me more than they should, considering how much bigger I am than them... but all those legs! Ugh. Too many legs! And those giant Luna moths.... I saw one on a window once when I was young and was terrified of it, it was just too big. And walking stick insects... those things are just unnatural. My parents still get them hanging around on the windowscreens in the summer sometimes, and I just can't stand it if I see them when I'm visiting. (/me wanders off quickly to look for something happy and cheerful to read instead...)

Rats. I hate rats.

Anything furry is a rat..tail or no tail. Guinea pig=rat. Hamster=rat. Squirrel=country rat. If we go to the pet store, I will walk completely around the store to avoid the "furry section".

I can't stand them. I think my fear comes from when I was very little, I was playing outside and there was one very close to me. I just remember hearing the fear in my mom's voice as she thought it was going to bite me.

Of course, I was the youngest of the family, too. So one time my sister chased me with a dead mouse on the end of a mouse trap.

Once we had a small mole get into the house. My husband caught it and killed it without ever telling me about it because he knows I would have freaked for weeks.

Because he slipped up about a year and a half later telling someone about it and didn't realize I was standing there.

edit to say, I dont think he actually killed it, he got rid of it. I didn't want details..LOL

SPIDERS: I hate spiders...all those legs freak me out. Centipedes and anything in the pede family are also creepy as hell. My boss thought it would be funny one day to tape a large dead spider to the handset of my desk phone, and then call the office so I would answer. I wasn't paying attention and grabbed the phone and freaked the hell out. Not cool Mr. Bossman. I paid him back by putting a nekkie female mannequin in the drivers seat of his car one day.

CLOWNS: Clowns are scary evil things..all that makeup and a smiley face is just a cover...I've seen IT (and that clown was a SPIDER) and Killer Klowns from Outer Space...I know the deal. I am not getting wrapped up in no cotton candy cocoon.

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear... And when it is gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear is gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."

That said, clowns scare the hell outta me too.

Anything that has more than 6 legs. The more legs it has, the less proximity it has to have to me to freak me out. If I see a spider a few feet away i'm ok, but if I see it on my arm odds are my mutant speed ability will kick in as I fly to the other side of the room. If it's a centipede or something... don't stand between it and me as I attempt to kill it, possibly using a large amount of overkill and maybe my xbox.

Fear

.

Being eaten alive by zombies.

I know I know!! It probably isn't something that'll ever happen, but hey, it still freaks me out.

That and having parasites, like bot flies. Have you ever seen a bot fly infestation?? OMFG!!!

OMFG!!!

I'd go insane! Really, I'd just go crazy! AAAHHHHHGGGG just the idea of it, some two inch long fat maggot just under your skin poking it's nasty little nose out every few minutes for air! AHHHH AHHHHHHHH

And Ascaris worms! ooooooooooooooo god, nasty nasty. hideous worms like giant earthworms burrowing their way through your body. They sometimes pop out sort of like by accident. People get an itchy nose and sneeze real hard and POP out squirms a 6 inch long worm!!

And earwigs! Those nasty little pseudoscorpions you see in the garden! They'll crawl in your ears at night and lay EGGS!!!! They'll hatch and eat your brain!!

AND oH My GoD. Brain worms! There are worms that will ifect your brain!! Parasite worms in your BRAIN!!

AHHHHH

I have a phobia.

Phobias are more then fear but I will share any ways.

Afraid of falling. When I am in a Mall on the second floor I have to walk with my hand touching the wall or I start to hypervenalate. My best friend (I was 30 at the time 32 now) had me in a ball in Woodsfield Mall ((Worlds largest mall…..If you only count shopping Sq foot) because he was hanging over the edge. I freaked out.

Bees.

Other creepy crawlers I can handle. For the most part, if you leave them alone, they'll leave you alone. But bees fly. And they seem to have some sort of instinctive curiosity which leads them to fly around people in tight circles. And if you piss them off, they'll literally kill themselves just to cause you pain.

I know it's just a preprogrammed defense mechanism and that bees are a valuable part of the ecosystem and some people work with bees all their lives with no problems. That doesn't keep me from screeching and running when dive-bombed by a bee, even though I know rationally that screeching and running is the worst thing I could do (short of taking a baseball bat to the hive).

Perhaps I should learn to speak bee.

I AM WITH YOU ON THAT ONE!!!!!!!!!! About 3 years ago I was helping do some work at this place called “Woodlot” it’s a Naturist place in Woodstock IL. I was using a weed cutter (like a weed whippier just with allot more power). At this time I had never gotten stung. As I was cutting down some grass I got to close to a ground nest. I never know it was there. I got stung 9 times. I was shaking the rest of the day.

Agh. My mom always said that I am not her kid because she's an aracnid edimologist (Sp?) and I have an insane fear of spiders. And I am pretty freaked out at getting a viris at the moment.

I love most all animals. Rats, snakes, and frogs are cute and cuddly. But I hate bugs. Not just one bug or two. I don't mind them at all unless there are a lot. A big swarm of them will freak me out. When i was about 4 years old i watched a movie with some older kids at a neighbor's house. It was one of those short story scary movies. I saw a guy laying down, he looked dead. And suddenly a swarm of bugs popped out of his chest and crawled out of his ears, nose, and mouth. From then on i was scarred for life. I went to bed with a flashlight after that night just to make sure there were no bugs. I have a very good memory of that. So now if there is a swarm of ants on food, or maggots. I freak out!
