This is the kind of thinking that people use to justify war in real life.

With me, maybe it's a RL generational thing. I just don't seem to enjoy "hanging" with people in SL. ![]() Maybe this is just because I had never used chat before SL. I'm 30-something in RL, 1.2-1.5 in SL. I feel the same way, Shack. I often end up annoyed trying to talk to people in choppy little sentences. When I think I'm going to be communicating with someone a bunch, I usually try to exchange e-mail addresses. Even IM in SL uses the same little chat box. I don't know if it's a generational thing or a personality thing. I'm 35, but I'm also a nerd. I usually want to be with people to geek out about something, rather than to chat socially. _____________________

I agree with Paolo's cranky rant. Hehe, you missed the point! Y'all's s'posed to fawn all over me, telling me how NON-cranky I really am. ![]() The other day I was chatting with one of my best SL friends who happens to be fairly new. She told me that she mentioned to one of her other friends that she was on her way to hang with me and her friend said something to the effect of "you know him? how cool!" When she told me that my reaction was ACK!!!!!! You da man, Chip! That actually reminds me of a time, last summer, when Cristiano and a few of his well-known friends attended one of my events. I was a tad bit nervous about it, but at the same time, I was irritated with myself for letting the celebrity glitter get into my eyes. In the end, it went off without a hitch. Silly rabbit was I. I grew up the son of a TV weatherman who was locally famous. It made it hard to make friends because people wouldn't look past my father's fame to see that I was a real person and that who I was had nothing whatever to do with who my father was. I hated it. It's ironic to find myself in a similar situation in SL. It most definitely isn't something I sought. Chip - Over the past couple of weeks, especially as we both participated in the War and Christianity thread, I have really come to like and respect you as a person. I'm probably not that best friend waiting around the corner, but nonetheless, I'm glad I've gotten the chance to get to know you a little better. And, that's what I love so much about SL -- I am meeting so many people that I would most likely never encounter in the RW. _____________________

Ok let's be real here, Paolo lol. You are referring to the time that I took my friend Michael Firefly, who had just joined SL, and Gracie Greenacre to the Man Hole or whatever the heck the name of your place was. We ended up there because Michael wanted to change his avatar, and as a gay man, wanted it to be stylish, so we went in search of a gay avatar store lol. What we found was a teleporter into an underground den of gyrating people dancing to a very cool music stream (which I quietly copied from About Land and saved in a notecard). Grace sat on a giant penis party favor, if I remember correctly, I think I still have a picture of it, and I remember dancing on a rotating platform and then noticing that there were men fornacating in the picture on the platform. LOL good times indeed. What exactly were you nervous about? lol. _____________________

Yeah, yeah -- the Boyz Cellar (a-hem) was once a mighty hedonistic empire. Pretty much got that outta my system, although the club area still sits there collecting dust (at least until I bulldoze it for prims!). The original goal of the cellar was to exploit and/or poke fun at (interesting word choice, eh??) every known gay stereotype. We had the "closet" area downstairs, the locker room with poke-through stalls (hehe -- known by a more "glorious" name in other circles), a bath house area (OK, so it was a hot tub), ad infinitum. (Oh, and I betcha you wouldn't have complained about the dance platform if it featured men and women fornicating!! ![]() Anyway, to answer your question, first and foremost, I was still pretty new when you and your entourage arrived. We had never formally met, and I pretty much only knew you by forum reputation. Beyond that, I was keenly aware that you were/are a prolific SL presence, both in-world and in-forum. It was kinda like having Frank Bruni, NY Times food critic, show up at the opening of a new restaurant. I wasn't sure what to expect, or what the fall-out would be. But, you cracked a few tasteless jokes and joined right into our festivities. It was mismo diversión! <breaks out karaoke machine and begins chorus of "Memories"> _____________________

Hehe, you missed the point! Y'all's s'posed to fawn all over me, telling me how NON-cranky I really am. ![]() hehehe, I figured that part went without saying. You're one of the most calm and rational people I know! I can't really imagine you getting bent out of shape over anything other than in a philosphical sense ![]() One of the things I love most about SL is how it breaks down barriers. Real world labels end up being so meaningless here when you could be at a party standing next to a giant man-bird on one side and a robot on the other. It's like one giant allegory about how silly labels are. _____________________

She told me that she mentioned to one of her other friends that she was on her way to hang with me and her friend said something to the effect of "you know him? how cool!" When she told me that my reaction was ACK!!!!!! Anyone that wants to get to know me just come introduce yourself and chat. Please don't put me on some kind of pedestal or think of me as different than anyone else. It's flattering but it's silly and a bit depressing. You could be my next best friend but for never getting the chance to meet you. It's exactly this kind of thing that made me bristle so much at Prokofy's feted inner core bullshit, as funny as it was. I don't like being labeled, lumped, or attributed with imagined qualities I don't possess. It's very nice to be respected for my work and accomplishments but it's a mistake to assume that any of it makes me different or better or worse than anyone else. I view everyone in SL as my equal. It doesn't matter if they joined two years ago or two days ago. As usual, you gave that nail a ringing headache. ![]() _____________________

I suppose I'm lost in a gap between gaps. No one socializes with me, save for the two people that I "kind of brought" to SL... hee.
Also..... I hardly see anyone with my birds any more. Sigh.. birds of a feather do not flock together. :> _____________________
