I never could get the hang of those devices, which is a farking shame as I believe the newer ThinkPads to be a mastery of industrial design.

I recommend this mouse. It's cordless, rechargeable and comes on it's own base. I actually use this one myself...works well under every circumstance and just about any surface. The mousepad I have is solid black and it has not problems on that surface.
