I have a cordless mouseman optical from logitech. It works great but eats batteries like crazy, and be forewarned that it is rather heavier than normal mice. My gf hates that, but I love it.

There's a new one out that contains a battery, sort of like a cellphone. It might be more convenient than swapping batteries. I was spending so much money on this stupid mouse I ended up getting rechargeables - careful, rechargeables are not born equal and the weaker ones will not work with your mouse.
A downside of the builtin battery is that, like cellphones, it will die :)
I have no idea how long it will live, or how easy it will be to get a replacement...

Oh this is really weird, was gonna ask a mouse question myself haha. Hate to start a new thread with the same question so I hope you don't mind me posting in yours. I don't have the answer to your question, but was wondering if anyone knows a mouse that doesn't make the annoying clicking noise when you right or left click. I dunno why but I really hate clicking sounds. If anyone has any info it would be appreciated :)

I had the logitech and while it was comfy, it did eat batteries at an annoying rate. So much so that the little door on the bottom of mine finally broke. I tried taping it but there was too much resistance needed to hold the batteries in. I had a similar thing happen to me with the microsoft counterpart. It had bad battery connections and I was always tapping it on my desk to get it to wake up. Finally I guess it just tapped out and stopped working. I hate all the interruptions so I just gave in and went back to wired. Not just any wired though. I got this bad boy:

1600 DPI, Frame rate over 6400 frames per second (5.8 megapixels per second)

16 bit data path, as compared to 8 bit and 12 bit data paths used by other conventional mice.

Overkill just for SL and not cheap. But between gaming elsewhere and being a graphic designer, I make good use of it.

http://www.razerzone.com/ I think I picked mine up on Amazon, gotta love free shipping.

Hi. I had a cordless mouse but I got tired of the batteries dying evry two weeks. Now I have a gaming mouse and it's the best one I've ever had. It's really smooth, with lots of functions. You can set three different response speeds and switch among them with buttons, like changing gears.

Here's a link to one reputable retailer's page for it: http://www.mwave.com/mwave/viewspec.hmx?scriteria=3694111

One option is to get a Wacom graphics tablet. They all come with a bettery-free cordless mouse. The mouse only works on the tablet, not on any other surface, but they do work well and they're completely cordless. If you go with a 6x8" Graphire3, it's about the size of a conventional mousepad. The Intuos line is better, but they're also a lot bigger, as is the new Graphire4. If you're looking for mousepad size, Graphire3 would be the way to go.

A wireless mouse is sort of cool, at first. Its not worth buying the batteries, or having to recharge batteries, or having it die on you an a bad time (is there ever a good time?).

Its hard to go wrong with any logictech product. Be sure to get a mouse with a lot of buttons. I absolutely love the side buttons on my mouse for navigating forward and backward on the internet.

I've been a major geek from the time when 1200 baud (~1.2 kbps for you young'uns) was considered new and snazzy and mouses were a toy at Xerox PARC.

It wasn't until I became an SL junkie that I had any sensation at all of repetitive strain injury (just a hint, no lasting effect, yay). At that time I switched to a thumb-trackball and will never go back. Compared to the big, gross motor contollers of your arm, your thumb is amazingly dexterous. (cf. gorilla arm). I won't mention the brand I happen to use, but they only slap their name on it anyway. Logitec makes products of equivalent quality and price.

I'd also been down the cordless road and they are battery suckers. If you do choose that route get yourself some NiMH rechargables, not only do they last longer, but the are a more pleasing color (which is really the important factor :) ).

I also have a 6x8 Wacom tablet. Love it, love everything you can do with it. I HATE the mouse though. It's in a drawer here somewhere....

I've used many mice. My current choice is a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical.

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/mouseandkeyboard/productdetails.aspx?pid=004

It's bog standard and I'm always looking for something better (I'd like to give more laser mice a spin as the uberprecision is alluring) but it was a good price at the time and still serves me solidly, despite a much-loosened up scroll wheel.

I tried wireless mice and didn't find them appealing because of the reasons cited above—the battery life annoyed me, and in my usage, I got them to skip and stutter unwantedly many times.

When my hand is on a mouse, it's like an excited dog going after an origami version of itself. :)

Consider buying from somewhere with a good return policy! Sometimes ya just can't tell until you've given the mouse an extensive workout.

Additionally, a related idea is to map additional buttons on your mouse to SL shortcuts such as the Inventory and Chat History buttons. As an example, since the "side buttons" on mice don't do anything in SL, they can be configured. This is simply straightforward to set up—usually with the mouse's included driver software—and makes things easier in the future. :D

Well, this goes beyond just a mouse....
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Logitech-Cordless-Desktop-LX-700-967418-0403-/sem/rpsm/oid/98325/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

But I bought this wireless keyboard and mouse set about 1 month ago. I love it! I use to use rechargeable batteries for my mouse, but was still replacing them nearly every day. So, when my mouse died, I went with this rechargeable mouse. I just plop the mouse onto the holder when I'm not using it, and it stays constantly charged. :)

The general consensus on tablet mice is to toss it out, and I don't even know if I have the one that came with my Graphire 2 graphics tablet still. The problem with these mice is that while all of us are used to the mouse pointer moving relative to the mouse's position, rotation, etc, these mice can be flipped forward side back and if you move them upwards on the tablet the pointer still goes up.

It's very counter-intuitive, and from my experiences most people would rather not want to relearn.

I had a Logitech cordless and hated it. It was constantly needing to be reset on the bottom (like every 10 minutes) and like others mentioned, it went through batteries like crazy.

I now have a Logitech optical, and I hate that too. Sometimes the pointer will just stop gliding and hover in place, wiggling crazilly back and forth and drawing squiggles all over whatever I'm trying to paint. Very, very annoying. I've tried changing all the Mouse settings in Control Panel, but it didn't make any difference, just made it squiggle faster or slower.

I'm going back to plain old ball mouse as soon as I find my old one. I'd rather clean the points periodically than have no options to fix the mouse at all.

Edit: changed digital to optical.

I have a Logitech MX700 which the person who got me my new computer gave me. Being my first cordless mouse I had no idea how lucky I've been with it hehe.. Its very responsive, nice shape, is rechargable itself, rather than having rechargable batteries. I just put it in the holder at night, and that gives it about 2 days of average use worth of charge. It does seem to be on the pricey side, but thats not something I had to consider when it was given to me :p . It also gives you fair warning that the charge is low before it cuts out completely.

I've used Logitech almost exclusively for 6 years. I am using an older iFeel mouse that vibrates. I bought it to play Black and White. Its been pretty reliable for 4 years. Since then, I've bought 3 other Logitech optical mice and keyboards for my other machines.

I also have the logitech cordless set love the keyboard hate hate the mouse when it wasnt needing batteries I would need to reset it very often and many times it would takes several attempts tp recognise it.

I use the the Logitech Marble FX which is ergonomically desiged to have your hand rest on it and reduces strain, the marble is moved by the use of index finger. You would need to do a search to find someone selling it as logitech no longer does. Ive had it for about 6 years and havinge tried others is the one I always go bk to.

I have also used the trackman by logitech which is also ergonomic and works quite well.

I have a Logitech "cordless click!". It doesn't seem to eat batteries overy fast. (pair of AA each month, maybe?). I've used a rechargeable cordless mice before (microsoft? dont remember) but it was big and clunky and had problems if the broadcast station was positioned wrong.

The only scary thing about battery operated mice is when they die while you're fighting in some game. Haven't had too much trouble with that yet :)

Edit: I wanted to add that I would never go back to a corded mouse, I used trackballs for years, but cordless mouse seems to work as well. my desk is too cluttered to accomadate a cord that has to move. :D

I have way to much spare time and a few things i figured out pretty fast thats annoying with mouses, if you use mouse alot avoid these

rubber on sides or just general = sweaty hands
-.- maybe just me, i dont like heat winter and cold ^^ yay...sun uarg.. no thanks

many mouses arent made for people that spend to much time, so you can litterally wear down down buttons, and paint (?thats the word?) and i even managed to melt a older mouse i had for maany years (yes i made a permanent imprint in my old mouse with my thumb :P)

Wireless, i want to try one but i never had one so i been looking at the new laser mouses, they are spose to be pretty nice with low battery use/docking station to recharge

I really like they put battery indicators on the new mouses , spiffy.

I have a habit of loosing my mouse all the time -.- so i dont know if a wireless is for me :p

I'll dare to be different: have you considered getting a keyboard with an IBM trackpoint device on it? Some people can't stand 'em, I know, but I love mine: no batteries, takes less space on the desktop, and (since it's right there in the middle of the G-H-B keys) you're not constantly moving your hand between the mouse and the keyboard.
