Oh come on now. It is completely believable that aliens, who are deathly allergic to water, would prepare for a ground invasion of a planet covered in water and then try to kill the people of that planet who are made up of 90% water. (or some insane percentage)

Or War of the Worlds... the old one and the new one. Come on... They're from space. Why wouldn't they use spacesuits?

Ok gonna go out on a limb here but I LIKED AI *sniff*

I actually loved AI. It was dark and sad, but I've never been a huge fan of happy endings in movies.

Movies are a matter of taste. I liked Solaris, a lot. AI was wonderful up until the ending but you know, death has a way of interfering with a director's vision. FF was ok, nothing to write home about, anime with CGI; woop.

You want to talk about utterly bad movies, you need to mention "Signs" with Mel Gibson. But wait, there's more. You can't leave out Kevin Cosner's "Waterworld" or his even worse "The Postman" which should have been named "Dirtworld" where he butcherd one of my most beloved stories by David Brin.

LOL..ok..I have to stop reading this thread. Signs was good entertanment! it wasn't genius, was simple with some old hollywood emotional bait, but I really enjoyed it from beginning to end. Even the corny "Swing away" line. ;)

Now Waterworld did suck, in my opinion, and I expected The Postman to, but I ended up really enjoying that film as well. I've watched it a couple of times and found it enjoyable.

I thought Solaris was pretty good. The pacing was a bit slow but it was interesting. What made it stand out was the soundtrack which is absolutely amazingly beautiful.

Much like Torley's disappointment with the Final Fantasy movie, I found myself pretty disappointed by the two Resident Evil movies.. Now don't get me wrong, they're pretty good on their own.. But connecting them to RE gave me all kinds of wacky-ass expectations that were not met. I was also annoyed that the commander-guy in the first movie kept holding his G36 by the handle of the grenade launcher like it was a freaking bullpup. >.<

Never seen Crash so I can't comment on it, but if you want to see a really bad film try Leprechaun In the Hood (http://imdb.com/title/tt0209095/), my mate picked it up from Tesco for a couple of quid one night and has been trying to offload it on everyone who goes 'round his house since.

And for the record Advent Children is awesome, the plot's probably meaningless if you haven't played the game but that's not what it's about. It's about the best CG fight sequences ever made. I think Penny Arcade summed it up best:

It should have a warning of some kind on it, when it hits retail. Something like:

Fanboy Warning

This film contains scenes that may be totally fucking awesome. Your favorite characters may be rendered in extreme detail as they take part in mind-blowing battles set in familiar locales. Futuristic scabbard/motorcycles might be depicted in a way that makes them appear sweet.
I suggest anyone even slightly interested in it gets it right now.

Gotta disagree. Anything that stars Tom Green can't possibly count as a movie. :D

I just finished watching Crash, despite the warning.

I will say that this movie isn’t for someone wanting fluff. This is about as far away from fluff as you can possibly go.

I found Crash to be very intense and moving. It's the kind of movie you walk away from and find yourself thinking about it for days.

For me it's a rare treat to watch such a meaty movie. It has a good plot driven story line and well developed characters. The parallel stories are believably intertwined and the performances are outstanding.

I appreciate that not everyone likes this kind of movie. If you do, watch it.

The fact you enjoyed "Signs" makes this quote totally unsurprising. Then again you likely never read the original book. It would be comparable to taking the Harry Potter stories and making Harry a 35 year old, hard boiled detective with laser beams in his eyes... or the Tomb Raider movies for that matter.

Independance Day was a fun movie, I can forgive a lot if I'm having a good time watching it and I did. The thing about the computers is simple, in the movie our computers are based on their computers.. they had the alien ship for 50 years to study so it wouldn't be beyond the realm of possibility to design a trojan to wreck the system.
