I haven't seen this covered, and have looked / searched the boards for any related topics. Forgive me if this is a blatant n00b question, but....

Are there regular character wipes in Beta,
Will there be a massive character wipe when the game goes live, or
Will our beta characters transfer over into Second Life Retail?

~also~

Is there talk of any type of reward or recognition for us Beta testers once Second Life goes retail? I'm not expecting anything, and won't be upset if nothing along those lines happens, but it'd sure be fun.

Wipes

Its hard to quote from these links, as there are so many posts. I Think that if there is a wipe, that it should be limited. Maybe everyone can keep a certain amount of their land and everything on it? It might also be good to take away some of people's money (maybe you can transfer L$10,000 max?), but I think that the main issue is land availability, as L$ are unlimited but land is. As long as new sims are generated when necessary, I think that perhaps no wipes will be needed.

I know that I am not looking for any reward for being a beta tester, other than the ability to have a head start in the world and suffer through its growing pains (like crashes and bugs) so that others, when SL goes public, will not have to suffer... so we should be able to keep what we have worked hard on during this time.

The only real life reward that I would like is just to be in the list of betatesters in the manual when this goes public... no money, just their way of recognizing everyone that has put their hard work and pioneering spirit into the beta.

We, as beta testers, are not only pioneers in this new world that is SL, we will also be looked upon tacitly by LL as liasons and ambassadors to the oncoming influx of the public players.

Someone suggested that there should be certain sims that only new players are allowed to build on when the game starts, and the same restrictions could be applied as new sims are added... this way, the newer people get to see what others have done, and become inspired to build in their own area, and we just don't go grabbing land from newbies. LL could set new arrival points at these new locations, then after a set amount of time (say 1-2 months), the land in those areas become completely public so that anyone can build there.

I can't remember who came up with this idea, but it works a lot better than a complete server wipe.

So personally... Server wipes = bad thing.
