Just wondering. This doesn't pertain to anything specific.

I do.
It's kind of bad really. Although, I've never really come across anyone who made stuff that I absolutely loved and then turned out to be a complete jerk. So, generally speaking, the people I would never buy something from usually don't make something I would want to buy, so it all works out. _____________________

Anyone have stats on what % of players read the forums? I'm betting its low enough that it would make almost no impact on sales even if you were a total jerk.

Less than 10% on whole, and generally accepted to be closer to the 2-5% mark. But don't write off the ability of popular opinion to make a difference. Things that make their way into the culture of a game linger and affect much deeper and longer than most realise. _____________________

Hmmmm.......with my big mouth, ideal for making enemies, and my just-can't-help-it pompous british forum demeanour, I'd better pass those four nearly-completed projects over to an innocuous alt double-quick.
Pity - "Ellie's this" and "Ellie's that" might have sounded quite good. On the other hand, maybe I needn't bother. On present showing they'll remain nearly-completed for the next six months or so, while others bubble up to take their place. ![]() |

This is very interesting as most of the people voting are saying piss me off, lose my business. I wonder if this would make any creators/service providers respond differently. Or do most, like my buddy blaze, have alts sell their stuff so they can spew all they want on the Forums?

The following text is no longer applicable. Please disregard and jump straight the the next post. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. (No animals were hurt in the making of this post.)
April Firefly Or do most, like my buddy blake, have alts sell their stuff so they can spew all they want on the Forums? Do you mean Blake or Blaze? Blaze is a self admitted alt all over the forums, therefore you mentioning this would not be a TOS violation. But I have never seen Blake state he was an alt or had one of any kind. So you could have just outed someone. I just really like you and wanted to give you a heads up in case it was a mistake. I see people switch the names all the time, so I can see it happening easily. ![]() Oooh you are so right, it's blaze Spinnaker. But as I didn't mention a last name, I don't think I did any harm. I will edit my post. FYI, when I want to give someone a heads up for a possible mistake, which I have done several times in the past, I usually doing it in PM. But then, that's just me. For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move. Robert Louis Stevenson _____________________

Pendari gave April a correction which caused April to change a post, but Pendari has quoted the changed part in her correction post.
Optimally now Pendari would delete the corrective post, April would delete her response to the correction, and I would delete this post; then the timeline would be restored to it's proper path with no malformed causal loops. _____________________

I said sometimes.
It's more if I disagree with their ethics, business practices, and generally the way they treat other people. Just disagreeing strongly on an issue or five won't do it. I can disagree with someone and still think they're a decent person. But if I see them on here treating others like shit, or constantly placing themselves above others, or belittling people because they're 'just consumers', then no, I'm not going to hand them my money regardless of what they create. There is nothing in SL I 'need', so I have the luxury of speaking with my dollars, and giving them to those I would like to see succeed. On the flip side, I have bought items from people just because I thought they were good people and not because of the product specifically. _____________________

A person's forum behavior will influence my purchasing.
09-17-2005 10:35
Hmm, there is a person here (that is, I am singling out one of many)in the forums who is extremely rude and hateful on a regular basis, exceedingly arrogant, someone who takes great pleasure in belittling those they disagree with. They appear to derive great pleasure from basking in their own brilliance, and seem to think that when their efforts to convince someone of the truth of something that is false, and easily verified to be so, fail, that they can solve the problem by throwing out an insult that is so stupid and hateful that no one would ever want to respond even to contradict, and thus they win the exhange by default.
... But enough about me. ![]() --- Seriously, there is such a person, her posts are so annoying I have just about stopped reading them. I have a free clothing or attachment item, pretty nice looking, though nothing special, that I was wearing; I read the object name in inventory and realized it was made by this person. I didn't replace it with something else instantly, but I will probably delete it once I take it off. I think I am still wearing it inworld. There is a chance that they may make other items I would like, but I won't be seeking them out. Althugh my taste in this matter is not the most common, there are other sources for similar items made by people that haven't impressed me with their unpleasantness, or better yet who have impressed me favorably with their words, so why not buy from one of them? _____________________

I absolutely avoid them at all costs including purchasing anything they sell or host because they habitually look for trouble and take everything said to, or done around, them as some sort of personal attack. But generally no, getting along with people, even when they occassially hurt my feelings or piss me off, is not hard to do. Most of the griefing complaints I hear are from people being just as childish as the perp. Sometimes it's even hard to feel sorry for them. That said, I do not agree that the forums are seperate from the world. That's like believing that the person cheating on the their spouse with me won't cheat on me after we're married. I'm too old to waste time arguing such protracted rationalizations just to justify acting like an ass in the forums but expecting people to treat me well inworld because it's "different." That only makes me look like a silly boy. _____________________
