Dont get me wrong, I like kids. But, with the Credit Card requirement being lifted, the kids are on the way! I happened to read a profile of a kid that stated he was 13 years old. He was a good kid, it just had not occurred to me that the kids are coming.

I enjoyed the adult atmoshere we have had up to now, I hope that the landscape of the community does not change too drastically.

All in all, I guess an AV is an AV is an AV, you never really know who is behind the face. I just feel like times are a changing.

Except when you are allowed to post FL information and a picture, then you *do* know who is behind the avatar, and that can make a difference.

you never know who is a kid, unless the pic and a statement is there

So a old fat bald white man in, say... Montana can post a saucy pic of say.. Janet Jackson and you'd believe they were a hot African American female in California?

ps no offense to aged persons, white men, people of girth, bald persons, Janet Jackson fans, African Americans, women or residents of Montana & Califorina. Example was for illustrative purposes only. ;)

well, being that the kids are only allowed in 4 sims, they can't see none of the mature areas. And i don't think Linden Labs expects the kids to sign up, but they really are the best for spreading the word :D

After 8-9 months of TSO (ugh) I was finding that I could generally tell who was a kid and who wasn't after a small 5-10 minute conversation.

And Linden has a 18+ policy on the registration page, or do they not enforce it?

Kids may spread the word to other kids, but to who else? Their parents :D They'll take one look, "whatcha doing son...ooooooooooo, can i take a look?" 10 hours later "Cmon Dad its my free trial" "Just 5 more minutes son"

Later he signs up for life :D

I'd like to know about that 18 plus age policy too. Do they enforce it?

Yup. If the Lindens hear about somebody being under 18 inworld and can confirm it, they boot 'em permanently. Check the Police Blotter -- you'll see the occasional mention of underage residents.

That's my understanding.

ahh ok

Thank Nergal. I was starting to worry that SL was taking the There stance on underage players -- "they have some money somwhere so just let them in to do as they please." No offense to those under 18 of course, but my general experience in EQ and There with folks 13-17 was not very good, unfortunately. I especially appreciate the adult atmosphere of SL, like Loki. Glad the Lindens keep on top of this :).

LOL

sorry... this was just too funny to pass up :) TY for a good laugh, Misnomer :)

oh i suppose i should post an opinion too hehe.. well, i would say that the reason i had left tso was to get away from the kid-like atmosphere and bubbly text, and found SL to be very adult oriented at first. And for the mostpart it still is... however, maybe we could opt for a sim named Disney and just shove them all in there? boy am i gonna get flames for this one....

I think most underage residents will be a pain. When I would be playing games like Jedi Outcast, these little kids would lame so bad against the "code" there so they're not on my good side.

At least two underage residents I knew from SL(Not here anymore but not giving their names anymore) who really made me mad. Although I would suspect SL would attract some 14-17 year old underage people so it's people a little more mature.

I am just worried it will attract some little kids that are 8-12 or something. That puts me on edge but I saw something that they will only be taking in teens so that makes me feel a lot better.

In the closed beta, if there was someone underage with an email address, proper specs, and a nice thing to say about themselves, they could get right in. But the community handeled it with dignity. The diffrence, though, is that some are paying some aren't. SO, forget the 4 sim limits! Let them see the world! If they're underage in the sence that they will annoy us, then out they go. But if we can't tell they're underage, I think that's just fine. Long as they behave, age doesn't matter. Really behave. I hate kids lol j/k.

POOR, POOR, BONOFICIANS.....!

I tried. I reeeeeally tried to be a good SL citizen. Went to Dore, tried to help.

Got pelted repeatedly by something cylindrical fired by someone somewhere.

Got asked at least 30 times where the "party" was.

Got asked my age and where i live >>wink, wink<< right off the bat at least 10 times.

Every time i tried to answer *real* questions i was interrupted by hyperactive, ill-mannered people who acted suspiciously young.

I've even been hounded relentlessly from PRELUDE for god's sake, by someone who couldn't even wait to get through their first lesson to start asking a million questions.

Now i'm worn out and grumpy.

Lindens....you've got your hand's full this time, and i'm inclined to let you go it alone...unless you actually pay me to hang out in Dore. It's like babysiting, for chrissake.

There's NO easy way to do this.

If you kick someone, SL gets bad word of mouth. If you leave 'em in they ruin it all and SL gets bad word of mouth. The world is an aweful, un-intelligant, ill-mannered place. You've gotta love it!

When I was 16, I always said, "When I'm 18, I'm going to fight for the fact that 16 year olds are just as mature as 18 year olds." Now... it sickens me to even spend time with other 18 year olds. As Darwin said, there are ALWAYS exceptions (like 30 year olds acting younger than 14 year olds), but... eh... I guess the government did SOMETHING right when they decided mature was about 18 years.

P.S. I'm an advocate of the "Everyone is Stupid, Anyway" Act.

The trial area is starting to get waaaaaaaaaay too crouded, and greifers are starting to get massive and concentrated. We really need to open the space up, 4 sims is really not enough. And especially if the noobs are getting bored, what are they going to do? Cause trouble.......:(

Do we enforce the age 18 limit?
08-01-2003 10:35
Since you asked:
Yes, absolutely, and all the time.

Upon discovery of an underage resident, we immediately suspend the account until the residents age can be determined.

We are working on tool that will allow underage residents, but until they are implemented, we will not allow minors into Second Life.

Peter I know I can say for most we appreciate that about the enforcement of age but what of the Griefers that are banging on the 4 sim walls to let them out so they can run amok amongst us.

I mean I can understand they are bored to tears not being able to go anywhere see anything do any thing. Still yet, some have some suspicions at this moment that a few of our friendly neighborhood Griefers are heading back in world and I have a feeling this time they will with a vengence against those that got them removed in the first place.

So the question again is what do we do about Griefers that are harkening the walls of the 4 trial sims waiting to run amok?

Just a question mind you.

Do you really want to spread that around? I say leave it where it is and give them more noob stuff to do.

One way I have seen all these trial users get used to SL is to do everything at once. They dont know the social rules yet, they need a place to learn. Last night someone was attaching everything in his inventory to his body.including his cabin. Well good for him, he was exploring, it might just sell the game for him, but it was very disruptive in a no host chat.

Not that it was a bad thing, the two just dont mix well. So maybe the entire area needs to be just for noobs, have those "working" mentors there helping, have NOOB no host chats (maybe then there needs to be a host tho..), have a slide show of what noobs will see and do once they sign up and get into the rest of SL. Move the inworld resident nohost chats to the new sims.

James mentioned in another thread that they might want to consider having a sandbox sim added to the trial area INSTEAD of calling Morris the sandbox.

I agree. That would serve 2 purposes. Keeping Morris stable for those who arent using it as a sandbox and providing them a little more space to do stuff. If it continues to be crowded why not allow them access to Rizal to play some games and let off steam??

Why don't we say that after a certain amount of days in the trial you can go out and explore the whole world? This would act as a cooling period for hot headers just wanting to go out and kill kill kill and grief grief grief under a diffrent AV...
