From: Cocoanut Koala This didn't just start out of nowhere. This all happened because people decided to do a smear campaign on a business. A business that, as far as I can tell, doesn't deserve it. THAT is what began it. That is what appears, to me, to be indefensible, despite this happy little anti-Anshe gathering going on here now. People dissed a business. Deny that. You are right Coco. It did not start out of nowhere. And it *did* in fact involve smear campaigns on several businesses. However, since you have stated you will not bother to read the history of this world, I'm afraid you will just have to deal with the fact that you may never know why people respond the way they do. And you can claim "as far as I can tell", but considering that you will only go back a few posts, your "as far as I can tell" is not worth more than most could throw the in world me. And I'm a stick! PS: Your best friend dissed businesses left and right. You did not care then, why do you care so much now?

From: Cocoanut Koala None of this happened because people supported their friends or praised a friend. This didn't just start out of nowhere. This all happened because people decided to do a smear campaign on a business. A business that, as far as I can tell, doesn't deserve it. THAT is what began it. That is what appears, to me, to be indefensible, despite this happy little anti-Anshe gathering going on here now. People dissed a business. Deny that. coco Let me guess... another bit of SL history you refuse to look into, so you just deny any reasoning behind peoples' actions regarding it? I had great sales from SLExchange when I used it. It was an easy system to use, and Merwan was always quick to answer my questions and respond to any concerns I had. He promoted SLE well, and my business, as a part of it. However... One partner shut out another with no warning, and no cause that was ever stated, even in the offending partner's public apology. I held judgement and waited to see what would become of it. No reasoning or excuses were offered, and therefore I decided to pull my items off of the service, and to no longer support it by using it. When it comes to my product and my money, I'll err on the side of caution. When it comes to supporting someone who did not deserve the treatment they were handed, I won't. (Which is why I also stuck up for you, Cocoa, when someone -one person- tried to start an AR campaign against you.) If you have no problems with the service or the history and deeds of those running it, then by all means, continue using the service. But don't dismiss the concerns and opinions of those who do have valid reasons to speak ill of its history. Not everyone is so willing to repeat history as you are.

I have not stated that I will not bother to read the history of the world. And in any case, where would that history be in this case? Even then, sounds to me like largely a matter of he-said/she-said, and reading tons of the he-saids/she-saids wouldn't clarify matters for me any further. It doesn't matter how much reading one does. A lot of these kinds of disputes can never be sorted out by outsiders. Jillian, they may have had their reasons, but aren't we supposed to not attack specific groups? In any case, just because three people tell me they hate, say, Starbucks, and will never go into Starbucks again, because the corporate officers had a falling out, I would be stupid to decide, oh, well, of course I should never go into Starbucks again. If I've been to Starbucks and enjoyed Starbucks, chances are I will continue to enjoy Starbucks. I really think these kinds of dissing SL businesses just backfire. People would do better just to praise the ones they like. coco P.S. He is not my best friend. P.S. I do vaguely remember some of this SLExchange event that was being posted about after I joined the game. What I remember is the same kinds of things being said then, about shut-outs and whatever, and something about someone who was going to join them but didn't after learning about that, and - most importantly - I remember a lengthy letter of apology to all concerned from whichever person did the shutting out. Consequently, I figured the entire incident, whatever it involved, was said and done.

I guess it shouldn't matter to you if real life businesses use child labor in third world countries, either. As long as you enjoy those Nike's, that's all that really matters.

I didn't say that it doesn't bother me if real life businesses use child labor in third world countries. Nor would I think there could be any possible correlation between such a scenario and whatever happened between the owners of SLExchange. coco

From: Cocoanut Koala Jillian, they may have had their reasons, but aren't we supposed to not attack specific groups? I can not classify someone saying they have clear and publicly accessable reason for thier opinion as any form of attack. The rule isn't in place to protect somone from thier own choices - it's there to prevent maliciousness.

From: Cocoanut Koala I really think these kinds of dissing SL businesses just backfire. As your friend found out. Still no comment on why you never got all hot under the collar and started lambasting your friend when he was outright libeling SL businesses? ("Oh, I told him in private" doesn't count) Didn't think so - that would be an admission of a double-standard - but don't worry, we see it without your admission...

From: Cocoanut Koala I have not stated that I will not bother to read the history of the world.
Yes you did, several times. Here is one: From: Lynn Lippmann Take a look in the forum archives, learn the subject to which you are referring; research it, study it, then we can have a truly honest discussion filled not only with historical facts, but with a little more detail than the present. You know the keyword search that's needed for your subject. From: Cocoanut Koala Lynn - I will precisely NOT do that. If one did that, a person would never, ever have a chance. I look at the forums once I arrive there - and see what person A has said. If persons B, C, and D don't respond in kind, and logically - then the problem is not with whatever person A may have said in the past, but with what B, C, and D are doing now. And often, that is, in aggregate, worse than whatever person A may have said or done in the past.
There's another practical reason. Let's say that person A did make a horrible mistake in the past, just for argument's sake. Did say something awful, or whatever. Or was a pain, or something - mind you, this is totally theoretical, and not at all what I think probably did happen in the past regarding any individual.
But let's say they did. Then person A makes a thread or a post that is totally reasonable, as is their right, as a player of the game. Is it fair then, to look back over past history to have an excuse for piling on when piling on isn't deserved?
I often don't look at exactly who says what in which post, insofar as is humanly possible, for the same reason. Even if I do know everything an individual has said to me in the past, though - there is always the now and the future, and our relationship could change and could become a good one. For all practical purposes, there are a few people I WILL avoid, not being a total masochist. But I can't say I have ever closed the door completely on anyone.
So history - it doesn't matter. Now is what matters. How we treat people now is what matters. /120/ec/52640/1.html You are of course entitled to your opinion. But as I stated you don't care to read our history, whatever your reasons may be. So fine, have your opinions. But you have *no right* to tell someone else their opinions are invalid or dismiss them as just "dissing some business". Because in the grand scheme, you *do not know* these people or what motivates them to say the things they say. From: Cocoanut Koala P.S. He is not my best friend. Sorry. I should know better than to group two people together just because they have the same opinion. I think some "not so great" influences are rubbing off on me these days.

From: someone ...So while your lastest PR post which is alomst as funny as your tobaccco-industry like truth campaign on your web site that contained several easily disputable lies, you can spin the story however you wish. As fiction goes, it is fine - if you are presenting it as non-fiction, you better use some of that profit to buy yourself a fact checker... One of the more valuable services that a good publicist does is to tell the principals of their firm to shut the hell up when their grandstanding is working counter to the firm's goals. I'm guessing that would be more useful than a fact checker

From: Cocoanut Koala I didn't say that it doesn't bother me if real life businesses use child labor in third world countries. Nor would I think there could be any possible correlation between such a scenario and whatever happened between the owners of SLExchange. coco It's called ethics. Business ethics. It doesn't really matter if it's RL or SL. It doesn't really matter if it's using child labor to make a profit, or shutting out a hard working and loyal business partner to make a profit. It's still greed, and it's still unethical, and still something that I, and apperantly several others, want no part of. But you go ahead and classify/justify/rationalize it however suits your purpose.

I should know better than to group two people together just because they have the same opinion. I think some "not so great" influences are rubbing off on me these days. You are so right Pendari. You are right to conclude from what I said that I would not read history. What I meant, however, was more akin to the post I made somewhere about the 5th grade teacher. ThatI would not pour over the reports from previous teachers, or listen to teacher lounge scuttlebutt, until I had already approached the student freshly as brand new. Only then - after forming my own impressions, and getting the best I could out of the student, would I refer to the file folder. Ditto here. And man, that was a LONG read. I've been reading it since supplied those links. (I didn't read all the ones on Hiro's post, but I read all of the links to other threads in the original link.) I saw the apology that I remembered in the first place. I remember that, and I remember Merwin and Apotheosis finally achieving a resolution. I don't remember at all about the boycott. (Because I wasn't reading it all that carefully at the time - it was mostly before I joined, and I was probably reading it then due to links from posts made after I joined.) I never look at an apology as anything but sincerely intended, and I thought that one was. The things that were not said - by both parties - I figured were not said because they didn't want to. Because it wasn't anyone else's business. By reading those threads closely this go-round, I see why people got upset about something happening to their friend. But I also saw people who took the same point of view I'm taking now. Except that now there seems to be even LESS reason to diss the company. Having read all that, though, I can see why some individuals would still be inclined to, especially when the question of these companies is put to them. coco P.S. I notice some people on this thread are taking a much more anti-SLExchange position than they did on the original threads.

Speaking just as a content creator who sells on SLExchange and SLBoutique, keep up these pointless posts!
Lately I've been making many more sales on SLBoutique then ever. Doesn't seem like it's from people switching over to SLB from SLEx in any great number, more so it's forum readers (lurkers) check out the web shops for the first time or being re-reminded about them and seeing what's new. So again, please keep up these long winded threads. Bringing the FIC into it should give it least another week on top.

Never underestimate the rapacious SL content baron. Sadly, I derive no benefit from this discussion because my stuff is only on SLExchange and SecondServer.
