If you had a whole sim, what would you do?

Work too damn hard at building something lovely or unique, hoping to garner either admiration or popularity, become socially cut off from those that you like and admire in SL, suffer from Post-build depression when the main vision is finished, stress over the millions of little details you'd like to add but are just too burnt out to do so, and eventually sit in your sim, hermit-like and fester, with the seeds of bitterness and discontent growing, while praying for some new fad/interest to awaken you from your slumber, and once again send you out into the rest of the SL world.

Or just play around on it...

I'd lock everyone out then stand in the middle looking very pleased with myself. Then crash.

I'd build Oz...

complete with the yellow brick road and Emerald Castle and color changing ponies.

Can someone script a flying monkey? not ones that fly out of your ass either.
Oh yeah and trees that throw apples.

In honor of LillMissy I'm thinking of a complete Diddling Sim. I'll even create a scripted bot in honor of Red Skelton I will name "Clem Ka-diddle-hopper".

Now if I just knew what the heck diddling really was.

I would set up the "Marlin Engineering Vehicle Research Lab", which would be a semi-public sandbox for vehicle designing and building...

Around the outer edges of the sim would be a race track, that curved on itself a few times. A big showroom in the middle on one side, with the sandbox area on the other side.

Unspeakable things.

For a while.

When that got old, open a golf course. It's something I've wanted to do in SL for a while. A single sim would be a small one, but you could do it.

Why not take it 3D and build it UP if not OUT? :)

'Cause half the 'experience' of a golf course is the wide open scenery, and drivin' the cart. :)

I would build a 14,000 prim shiny chair and sit in it, then invite Maxx over to be jealous.

I'd of course build a highly detailed shack in the center, then invite Marcos over. But the door wouldn't open. There would be a moat surrounding it, waiting to be filled with his burning tears of jealousy and impotent rage.

And then we'd exchange shiny prims.

I would host theme-builds and gather together groups of interested builders/scripters/texturers for temporary projects, set to be up for a couple/few months, then torn down and replaced with something else.

A Viking village, a fantasy Arabesque al badhiyan tent city and caravanserie, (I probably mangled the spelling of those, so sorry) Blade Runner style futuresque Los Angeles, Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory, a film noir style build done completely in black, white and grey...

I have lots of ideas for sim wide builds, (or smaller but detailed enough to need the resources) none of which would be for commercial uses, so I'd end up broke.

Cindy, I had a fortune cookie that can sum up diddling for you.

yup. To build for sheer creativity or beauty or fantasy won't pay for a sim. :(

I wouldn't expect it to, though. I don't spend more on SL than I would for any other entertainment with no refunds. If I bought a sim, I would be writing that money off as part of my entertainment budget, and any Traffic or other return it received would just be a bonus.

Anything else is too much like gambling, or worse.. work.

EEek! Work! But that's a hefty sum, at least for some of us, to pay monthly, just to have a build that folks visit once in a while...

I couldn't possibly use a whole sim. I would trade land use on the island for skills of a scripter so I could get my next project off the ground.

And thus the mystery of why I don't have a sim is solved. :D

Wise words... written, of course, by an unemployed poet in the back room of Wong's Fortune Cookie factory just before taking his lunch break.

But still wise.

I would like to see the Lindens pony up theland fees for some of these projects though.

Perfect example(s) are Spitoonie island or Chicago.

Huge amounts of time and creativity that end up being lost cause of some silly commercial reason.

I think there should be some kind of social fund for preserving some of these builds instead of losing everything just because people are a little bored with it lately.

Not everything needs to or should make money in SL.
Where would we look for wilderness if not for a few folks who make it for free?

It seems so inefficient to waste all that work.

There was reading all these interesting ideas then someone mentioned chocolate and I stopped reading. A Kingdom of Sweets! That's it. Sweets. A whole island of everything scrumptious and, if I get rich, clickable things that give you vouchers for REAL SWEETS.
