Just an idea....but perhaps a game where people actually CHOOSE to govern\be governed, would be ideal?
SL is not a game. It's a virtual world.

You know, it seems like most progressive causes in SL (Bill of Rights, player-run moderation, reformation of land auctions, binding democratic votes) are opposed not by the Lindens or by special interest groups (land barons, forum junkies) that might suffer from the changes but by a crowd of anti-intellectuals, who irrationally resist change.

It's not irrational for someone to not want changes they see as detrimental to the player experience. There is plenty of room for honest, well considered, disagreement on so-called progressive issues.

FWIW, this particular post of yours strikes as being very similar to the common polemic tossed out the major U.S. political parties. I see it as provocative and accusatory in tone. Designed not to foster discussion, but rather to discredit opposes on general grounds instead of on the reasons they oppose.

I will also say that I find the has all the earmarks of a trolling post. My advice is to watch that kind of stuff. There seems to be a general tendency to have a hair trigger here when it comes to the bad post button.

Have a most excellent day.

just my personal opinion, but hasn't government messed up our real lives enough without dragging it here?

Peace,
Joseph

Reaction to the presentation of ideas appears to be a significant factor to consider when evaluating the responses in this forum. The existence of anti-intellectualism is hard to ponder in the midst of anti-arrogance, anti-conceit, anti-gang banging, anti-insult, and (considering the caustic edge of too many posts) anti-acid.

That is YOUR opinion Ulrika. I could just as easily carry out a life in UO for example, where I didn't "level", but built up a business, built a house, and hung out at the tavern.
My point in referring you to online political games, was that you would be working within an environment where people actually WANTED to explore the concept of government etc. It seems clear that the majority in SL, simply want to enjoy an alternate world, that's FREE from everyday politics. That's why the political forum was set up..... (and yes please Jeska, feel free to take THIS thread over there too.)
I've always said, that if the Lindens would put it to the vote inworld, ie

"Should there be a form of player government in SL? Yes or no." (with the caveat, that a yes vote would simply open up a mandate for such)

....and the vote was a yes, then fine. I'd be happy to accept that that was the case. Until then, I hold out that most people do not WANT a government. That if they do, they can check out the links I placed...or get involved in Neualtenburg. Until then, these arguements will simply go around in circles.

Ok I don't want to get on your bad side here because i know that you are pissed, but your thread was moved because it belonged in that forum, not General. If it didn't belong in the politics forum, no report of it would have gotten it moved there. I know you are mad not because it was moved, but because it seems like it was moved on the whim of someone, but again, ultimately it is where the thread belongs.

Cris, appreciate your comment. I agree that the thread did in fact belong to policy forum, however please take a second and look at policy forum:
/148/1.html

not a single of the threads regarding SL bill of rights, governments, intellectuals and anti-intellectuals, etc have been moved there. You are correct that I was a little pissed, because the thread I posted (which was really Aimee's) directly addressed these threads, some of which are ongoing for WEEKS now in the general forum. Furthermore, I did report all these one by one after your original post. Don't you think this is extraordinarily inconsistent forum moderation and unfair?

As you know, I am rather sensitive to acts by Lindens that are perceived as discriminatory :)

Has anyone noticed that if you oppose someone's ideas of change you all of a sudden become anti-intellectual? That you aren't progressive, but regressive? That you are somehow stupid because you don't agree?

I find that interesting.

Deja-vu. There's been a glitch in the matrix, folks.

You know like this thread right here?
