I dont look at ratings of folks unless someone im intereacting with is acting as a jerk...then i look and see if this av has a pattern of "jerkiness" in which case I will check their ratings..and almost always I find the jerk has received a high percentage of neg ratings vs pos ratings ..which is really the thing to keep in mind.. Someone who has 290 pos ratings and 3 negs is obviously a really cool person who probably was unjustily neg rated. So the rating system has some use and we all know how easy it is to get a random unjust neg rating.

No no no, I don't want a 5 meter rule.
What about if some griefer drops a sim bomb and runs away? This has happened before, too. The sims gone and you can't neg rate him because he's offline or just gone.
The neg rating is a priceless tool, even if it can be misused.

Justifiable negative rating

Ok. Myself and my 'SL significant other' were in our "private" sky box... (private as in, a square box with no windows or way of entering). When I noticed an individual fly up to the box (using wings). Not only did I warn him away, but we made an object with physics enabled and "bowled him off the box" which sent him tumbling. Of course he returned, so I negative rated him in appearance and behavior.
I then messaged him that his presence was not wanted and to please stop lingering because we are up there 300 meters high to not be bothered. He never responded. I next messaged him that I negative rated him and if he wanted to have it removed that he should respond (all the while he was circling with visual range below the box (less than 200m for me). Instead of responding he, logged, and did not return.
I consider this a justified negative rating (and note I did not neg rate his build skills). Even now if he were to message me in-world with an apology, I would gladly accept it and remove the negative rating.
