Once upon a time it was called Country & Western.
Jake Blues asks the lady bartender, "What kind of music do you play here?"
She responds, "Oh we play both kinds...Country and Western."

A few so called country acts nowadays even mix in hip-hop and there are too many tunes that sound more like top 40's pop than country. Nothing can withstand the assault of Yank commercialism. I personally prefer "classic" country, 'cause I was country, when country wasn't cool. Yo, indie-rock pete _____________________

Country music is the Blues for white people. If you listen to country (which I grew up listening to) and you listen to the Blues (which I also grew up listen to on 8 Track!), they are the same thing. The woman is gone, got fired, repo'd the track (cadillac for the blues!), the dog is gone, and even your own mother doesnt love you! OMG, the horror! All of this can be fixed by your best friend in a bottle, and the local bar! Woot! I love "Classic" or real Country and listen to it still, not as much as the Blues, but hey I live in Chicago

I like the wilder side of Johnny Cash myself. Modern stuff though.. hmm... nothing beats D. Landry and the Dirty Cajuns so far in my book. I like the stuff out of Louisiana more than Tennesee or Virginia. ![]() _____________________

The sad thing is that while the true country musicians are still cranking out the good stuff the vast majority of listeners are listening to the bubblegum type of country music thinking they are hearing the real thing. They might as well tune in to Britney and get it over with.
