From: Satchmo Prototype For what it's worth, the begging was definately location based.
Are you saying this because you saw the IMer in your vicinity? If not, I would assume she was going down the list of online Prototypes in the Find->People window and that's why she IMed you and DNA within a relatively short time frame.

I'm making new low prim furniture.. basically a pose than has people bend over as a table, footrest, or a chair.. I'll set it so it pays the folks $1 per minute they spend as my furniture.. so if they want 100 lindens they can let me park the booties on their back for a couple of hours AV-Furniture, coming to a store near you soon! Siggy.

From: Ushuaia Tokugawa Are you saying this because you saw the IMer in your vicinity? . No, because maybe I fell for the social engineering Since I was toying with her and offered lots of money she told me she found me cause we were in the same sim... but your right, we prototypes are a short lot, especially the who actually make it online.

There is a lot of FUD flying around in this thread, most of which has been debunked. There was no sensor being used, there was no name2key database being utilized, there was no LSL script IMing anybody anything. Sure the spamming itself is a topic that needs to be addressed, but a large portion of this thread is just incorrect assumptions about scripting (look at the name of this thread). There was even a Hotline post referencing this thread that is full of false statements. I realize that some of the incorrect information is being posted out of ignorance (I absolutely don't mean that in a disparaging manner). I can understand that. I privately contacted one of the participants in this thread whose incorrect information I felt was particularly damaging and suggested they might consider editing their post (edit: this post has been edited now). It seems to me the considerate thing to do. Is this even a reasonable request? Is the "it's only a matter of time before it happens so I'm not going to retract my inccorect assumptions because when it does happen my post will appear providential" attitude healthy for the community?

From: Travis Lambert Eggy - leave your chat history window open, and then try it. All my IMs or chat go there - I think that's what Cienna was referring to. In fact - I usually leave my chat history window open all the time - because I'm usually in an area where a ton of chat is whipping by EDIT: This may be where the confusion is originating from. I use my history window so much - to me - its just default behavior, and I'll bet others do so as well. Regardless - IMs sent from a script don't show up in the 'IM' window - but they will show up in the chat history window. Thanks, Trav, but turns out I was mistaken. It was definitely an IM. But regardless the pedantic play, it remains a new trend that is frankly annoying. And this was just my first one. I can't imagine those getting them regularly like them any better.

More of a 'some people don't spend every minute on the forums' thing, and perhaps even a 'some people don't know every esoteric bit of minutia on how to tell what is generating an IM' thing. Assuming intent is the fastest and most effective way to misstep known to mankind. But I'm sure you know that... right?

Finding Targets

From: Sensual Casanova lol true but this happen the same time everyone else got one, and I am usually 750m up with a security script that will send you home before yo9u even see it : I must say I am assuming that I was hit by this person simply by them finding me in the search menu. I think that what they are doing is looking for all online avatars using search, opening up all the profiles, and then copy the message into the IM box. Labour intensive, but fairly efficient. That's why people with similar surnames are being spammed within a few second of each other...the list will tend to keep them together. Cali
