LOL! Send me the location in PM! I want to put a scripted person there saying "Get a job hippie!" over and over! Within reason, not spam. Edit: No offense hippies. I love hippies. Esp the female ones.

hmmm - Pipe Dreams not real suggestions ... that'd be WRONG!
07-01-2005 11:55
Wouldn't it be more fun to find that person, and drop beggers all around THEM?
Or, if someone could make it so the object carrying the anti-begger begger would follow them ala scrubbies?
Yes, that's some serious griefing but a girl can dream right?
Might be fun to drop a lot of useless inventory on them, let them clear out the mess!
Or, give their name out to every other beggar as a source for Lindens and goodies and advice with the coda that "they're kinda shy, you might need to ask a few times to get them to respond"!
Yea, but that would be wrong. And annoying. And funny as all get out.
Oh, btw, where did you encounter this little script of greed and need?
/rubs hands maniacally, laughing in a way that would scare Vincent Price back alive ... MMUUuauauahahahahahahahahaHA!
*** Again, any or all of the above would be "bad" and "wrong" and two wrongs only make for a good story if no one gets caught or hurt or arrested or indicted or banned or censured or elected.***
Uh huh.

DNA http://www.sluniverse.com/pics/pic.aspx?id=17025&sort=PictureID+desc&Name=Cienna+SamiamReported, ignored, and captured for posterity at Snapzilla. Same person. Same scam. Worrisome thing is -- this person was NOT on the island/sim, is NOT someone I know, and is NOT someone who could have gotten to me outside of somehow scripting the process of locating people who are online then spamming them. I suppose 'Told you so' isn't the best reply at this point, but damn it -- it is the truthful one.

From: Eggy Lippmann Script IMs do not open a window. No, but I do when I get one, especially when I want to screenshot what is happening. Kindly ask for clarification before making snide and patronizing assumptions. You look much less instigatory that way. Thanks.

Yup that's the one. DNA an I were hanging out on Orient when we both got hit up for money by the same av, with the same messege you captured in Snapzilla. Another friend of mine has been getting hit with this kind of stuff, if you ask who they are they ignore you. So I got cute and said "baa... $50L you disgrace me, how bout I give you $5000L?" Then they were willing to talk and were persistent that I "lend them some money til Tuesday"... when I said, "I don't know you, how did you find me?", they replied with "We were on the same sim"... so maybe it's a wearable AV scanner or something... I'm still waiting for someone to ask me for a quarter because their Cadillac ran out of gas.

While I agree that Eggy is crotchety in his old age and can be patronizing at times, he's correct in his assumption. Script IMs don't show up in the Instant Messaging window, they show up as green text in the Chat History. So the screen shot you posted is the result of somebody actually IMing you, not a script. Edit: I'm assuming this person is using the Find->People window and begging the old fashioned way. I still believe this is spam and is ARable, but no keylists are to blame here.

I know that is what you two are saying, but that is not my experience. Are you sure that hasn't changed recently? Regardless, Mr. 'I'm a egg and you're not' can sit and spin for all I care. The issue is the spam, not necessarily the means by which it is occurring.

Kindly ask for clarification before making snide and patronizing assumptions. You look much less instigatory that way. Thanks. No, Cienna. Script IMs do not show up in a window, they appear the same as green chat text but are only sent to you. There is no way a scripted message will ever appear in the same IM window as human messages. They did use to be indistinguishable but LL removed that capability exactly so that things like this would be impossible to do. Unless there's some bug, of course, or the player in question is using a macro program to move his mouse cursor and click on the screen for him, this was not automated, but simply someone pulling random names from Find and pasting a message into the IM window. If you won't take my word for it, read the LSL documentation, or ask a Linden.

Positive. From: someone The issue is the spam, not necessarily the means by which it is occurring.
Agreed, but by the same token your "Told you so" is unecessary as well.

I went in-world and performed all sorts of tests, could not get a script using the llInstantMessage command to produce that effect. The only way a script will pop up a text window is with llDialog, and it is always a blue window on the top right corner.

Eggy - leave your chat history window open, and then try it. All my IMs or chat go there - I think that's what Cienna was referring to. In fact - I usually leave my chat history window open all the time - because I'm usually in an area where a ton of chat is whipping by EDIT: This may be where the confusion is originating from. I use my history window so much - to me - its just default behavior, and I'll bet others do so as well. Regardless - IMs sent from a script don't show up in the 'IM' window - but they will show up in the chat history window.

I have had one or more people IMing me asking for 100 or 200L to upload textures. When I say I have some pretty good textures, what type do they need, never get a reply.
I'm going to put a sentence in my profile in caps, saying if anyone sends me a begging IM I will report them. I regularly give money to newbies but i loathe begging.

Script sent IMs don't get an IM window. Wherever else you see the message, any message from a script is colored green (by default, anyway, you can change this in your settings). The spam Cienna got was manually entered by the spammer. It's still spam, and Cienna's AR should still result in drastic action*. *For values of "drastic" including "mild warning".

For what it's worth, the begging was definately location based. So even as Eggy pointed it wasn't a script that did the IM'ing, it was detected Av's, and giving the owner targets to go after. That in itself is nothing new, maybe it's just new that people are using Av detectors to beg for money.
Either way, be wary who asks you for money. I don't mind helping a noob I meet in world (infact I go out of my way to help noobs), but lets not support random begging.

Sorry that was my bad. It wasn't a script as I first thought it was. Person didnt reply to the IM and Satchmo got the exact message only a second later. I jumped to a conclusion on it being a script with out considering that it came in the IM window.
