Much thanks to everyone who was involved with the Chicago Project. Due to inactivity on the sim we have decided to close Chicago early and go onto our next project.
If you have not yet seen Chicago :) well you have 60 min. :)

Aww, that sucks. I wasn't done!

Will you still be selling the Chicago clothes? I've been wearing the free gangster suit around and digging it, and I was totally planning on going back to the clothing store and buying some other tough-guy apparel.

Great job, anyway.

Chicago was an impressive build, and it's a shame it didn't draw the attention it deserved. I stopped by earlier this evening to view it again. I wish I'd had more time to delve into the RPG aspect, as you certainly provided some excellent story content. I especially liked the Linden mausoleum (and the accompanying clue card).

Anyway, I'm sorry you're closing Chicago down, but I'm glad I had the opportunity to experience it. Best of luck on your future endevours.

Hey! When is this happening? I haven't had a chance to visit it yet! I hope it will still be up tomorrow night?

It has been my experience that many entertaining games/movies/RPGs etc have had very little to do with ACCURATE history. Sorry to see you obviously didn't enjoy Chicago, but I most certainly did! The build was nicely done and there was some fun to be had there. Obviously people put their hearts into the project - even if not 100% historical accuracy.

Well, if you are looking for a history lesson in SL, then yeah, I guess you wouldn't have enjoyed it. Next time you want a history lesson, try google.

I loved Chicago, I thought it was great..so much detail and I loved the little clues that were all around. I am sorry I didn't get to spend more time on it or get some pics.

It is probably a good thing, I seemed to get in trouble while I was there. I tried to take some money off the floor and my ass landed in jail. O.O! LOL I was just using the finders keepers rule!

I'm sorry to see it go - the time I visited it I was highly impressed with all the work that went into it, and all the imaginative details. I look forward to seeing your next project :)

Eggy: there are tons of pics on Snapzilla, I think you can do a search and bring them up.

Classic Example
06-01-2005 06:05
Sorry - But I think this is a classic example of how something big, creative and probably very wonderful goes about being around for a month and thousands of people have no clue it even exists.

Go ahead and flame me - but I did not know this was up and running and I am sad to have missed seeing it.

I look at events listings once in awhile, but not often anymore since the Tringo epidemic sort of wiped out most other event type organisms.

I look at Popular places but do not recalling seeing this make the list.

I do recall some drama earlier on - in the forums - but I must have totally missed an Grand Opening announcement.

Well to make many words into one thought - I missed it. :(

Maybe next time I will catch on to a major event, build, area, etc....... :( before it closes.

back to my cave......

Catherine, I've been gone for the past week, and also I'm not used to elaborate things that obviously took ages of work to create getting pulled down so fast in a game, but I'm getting used to that, understanding that it costs money to keep the sims that whatever it is is on.

Touchstone Fair I managed to get to, not just once but several times, primarily because they stated clearly and often exactly how long it would be up. In the General forum, too, I think - cause that's about all I have time to read.

Making clear how long we have to get to something helps me and others with Cocobrains by other names.

coco

P.S. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Just went back and saw the 60 minutes thing! Guess I didn't notice it last night because I was just doing a quick perusal of general forum after I had to log off the game, before getting back on it.

Really Catherine!!! A bit more notice wouldn't be amiss. It is not wonderful that I missed this, and a tough cookies attitude about it is sort of rubbing salt in the wound. Hmph.

P.S. I read the Events thing religiously. In fact, that's how I found the Touchstone Fair in the first place, and how I knew about the events they had, and another way I knew it was closing.

There were plenty of announcements about Chicago but none of them said it would only be up for one month -- the makers probably didn't think it would close within a month.

I'm guilty, too, of putting of a visit thinking it would still be there but it's a lesson that things in SL are ephemeral and you shouldn't put off such visits.

This is an unbelievably nasty and vindictive post, and I find that it once again exposes FIC-like behavior, and says a lot more about the poster than about the project.

Chicago was an incredibly immersive project, it had loads of detail and wonderful execution, I found it in many ways more convincing and successful at what it attempted than Neverland, which had trouble shaking the Disney associations.

It was also the kind of sim that would attract certain demographics that would rather wander around, look at things, admire things, shop, and may be follow riddles -- not everyone wants a quest like game with shooting or monsters or leveling or whatever like Numbakulla.

The difference between Chicago and the other two is largely the networking and social positioning. It tells me a lot about how projects sink or swim in SL, depending on whether they are blessed by certain interest groups and even Lindens, and whether they get mentioned in Hamlet's blog, etc. etc. Indeed, it's a fascinating study.

I polled a few "opinion makers" and asked what they thought of Chicago and they were visceral, instant -- and wrong and prejudiced -- in their dislike of this project. Because it wasn't their friends, their approved networks, their approved critics etc that took up the cause of Chicago (the Herald had a wonderful article about it but for some people that wouldn't be an endorsement).

It also demonstrated to me that people reinventing a new SL persona in an attempt to distance themselves from some past hated persona aren't really given a second chance if forum jackals have already declared someone as "beyond the pale" or "needing help and being mentally ill" or WTF.

It's just an awfully sobering lesson for me about SL.

It's like the intensity of the theater businesss in the 30s and 40s -- short runs, long runs, off-Broadway, Broadway, flops, pans, picks, raves, etc. Just as much work goes into creating these themed sim projects as putting on a Broadway show, maybe even more. And if you don't have the right backers, it's hard to succeed. It's a pretty brutal business.

I used to think that artistic merit alone might stand and be recognized but now I really have severe doubts.

If you think this is another "conspiracy" post get a grip, it's just a commentary on the ways of the world, they're no different in SL than in RL.

That was one person's opinion.

I have some pictures of Chicago on snapzilla if anyone wants to have a look. It made for some very good photo ops!

No monsters on Numbakulla. No shooting on Numbakulla. No leveling on Numbakulla. Just riddles and puzzles to solve as you wander around. Are you sure you mean Numbakulla and not Darklife?
