Pendari Lorentz, you remind me of someone I talked to on a regular basis (whom also is raising an autistic child). She and I had very good conversations and never took each other's words as insulting to the other in any way. I hope that if we're ever in game at same time, that I get the chance to meet you.

Thank you Wynterfrost, I would love to meet you as well! :)

And I always find it refreshing to find others I can talk with about delicate subjects that are open enough to discuss and even disagree without being insulting to the other person. It isn't always easy to find these days unfortunatly.

Hope to see you soon! :)

I don't see the moral dilemma here. In the one case you are saving an innocent life at any cost. In the second case the police are able to contain the situation without undue violence. If in the first instance the person interrupting the crime had the means of preventing it without killing the attacker, then clearly that is the correct course for them to take. If they nevertheless went ahead and killed the attacker anyway, then they would be guilty of murder.
<snip>
What I meant to say was that even when killing someone who has killed, the state is thereby reducing its own moral authority. Killing is wrong, ok? So we punish it by killing. And when the person being killed is actually innocent, then it is difficult to distinguish the moral positions of the state and of any common or garden murderer.

Good point. I am certainly going to think on this. And of course the biggest thing that makes me re-think this issue often, is the fact that I *know* innocent people have been sentence to death only to have the real criminal turn up later. But there is no way to bring a person back to life, even if they were wronged.

The following link is to a series of pictures of someone who has just been electrocuted. PLEASE DON'T LOOK IF YOU ARE SQUEAMISH. Unless you have been arguing for the death penalty, in which case you should look.

I have seen this before, and worse even. But I have also seen the horrid things that have been done to victims. I know if I put my daughter's face (or husband's, mother's, other close family and friends) on that victim, my mind certainly puts the killer through a lot worse than what the electric chair would do to them.

Perhaps that is where I also get torn on this issue. When I make it personal. When I put myself into the place of the families of the victim. I know only too well what I would personally want to see done to the offender, so I am hesitant to tell the victims families they should want less than I would. I guess I do not want to be hypocritical.

I don't know. This is definitely an issue I have no 100% belief on. I've swayed back and forth on it for years. It really does help to hear what others have to say though. So thank you for talking with me about your thoughts on this!

I don't know specifically in colorado, but life without possiblity of parole might not be an allowed for sentnce for the crime of rape in Colorado. It sounds like rape carries a 20 year max in colorado. If they have the terms served concurrently with each others then he could be up for parole in five years (with good behavior credits). If he serves the terms consecutively, even with good behavior credits, he will never leave prison, since one term does not start until the prior ends.

this 'man' should not be a burden on society by living out his life in a state funded institution. Tax dollars that should be spent on childrens education is wasted on providing him with three square means a day. He should be given to his victims to deal with in a large room for 24 hours or made to carry his genitals in a mason jar with a tattoo on his head reading Child rapisist, and all those who 'punish' him should be rewarded or at least given immunity for the act of punishment.
It is plausable that the same children he victimized will be paying his cable bill in jail. Justice?
