Well, I shan't use the 'stripping for cash' plan to aid my tax problem then - unless anyone wants to pay me to keep my textures ON! :D

I've had three noobs come visit me at my airship in clementina since the trial went free:

One was definately under-age... I could tell because I didn't understand half his slang lol ("wots crack", "how dus I kill peepl here?", and "mummy says it's time for bed" were my favorite understandable exchanges. Okay okay, I made up the last one)

The second seemed very lost, and just said "i dunno" to everything I asked him. I tried to be a helpfull resident and tried to talk to him for 20 minutes, but kinda left him tangled in the balloons supporting ropes and continued building when I couldn't make any headway with him.

The third was obviously old enough, genuinely interested, nice enough for me to introduce to my neighbours and show them a few interesting corners of the world. He said he'd definately be signing up early - so one out of three aint bad I s'pose.

But I must say the free trial seems to be a two edged sword: One the one hand it opens SL to more people who may shy away from entering credit-card info... on the other hand it's opening this wonderfull world to potential under-age griefers who don't neccessarily get what SL is/can be about.

Still...until someone tries to make me their be-atch, I'll carry on trying to help 'em!

This happened back with the old trial system. I was informed by a friend that the user was a teenage girl (actually, I was told 12) and had simply used dad's credit card to open the account.

At least it happened in a mature sim. (Which may actuall not be a good thing, depending on your point of view.)

I agree that having no credit card check will allow more minors in, but, lets be honest, they could have gotten in anyway. Their parents have CC's, nothing we can do to stop them. If you see one, report him or her, end of story.

Also, to stay a bit more on topic with the original post, I too have met a LOT of weird newbies. Newbies that start talking in German, newbies that say a string of the F word in a large group, a newbie that asked Haney Linden if he was also 13, etc.

I have not been asked to be anyone's biatch yet, but, if interested, please IM.

How does speaking in German make someone wierd? Two of the five Germans I've met inworld were unbelieveably rude, but that's not wierd for them - as a rule...

Well, It was just a bit weird for me, I wasn't expecting it. I have met many nice german players, once I get them to start speaking english, that is.

What happened to newbies like me? I mean the ones that came in afraid to talk to anyone, and just kinda' in wonder of the whole thing? I tried to make my AV look good when I came in, and now we get people just trying to make other 15 year olds laugh with their idiocy. It's the curse of "mainstream."

Hmm... that post was pointless. And I still think SLers hitting on each other in VERY BLATANT ways is kinda weird... (ie... "Your hot" is the first thing someone says). I guess I REALLY don't have to deal with that... but it bothers me when others do.

That was pointless too. I've gone completely off topic now... oh well... Just expressing an opinion in the closest related thread possible. It's just sad that I can't stand hanging out in the welsome area any more...

Well, coming across two AVs speaking in German, greeting them in that language (which my German ain't THAT bad) and have them tell me to stop patronizing them, to go away AND giving me neg ratings to boot was pretty rude, I thought at the time. It's not as if i were hanging around or anything like that. I just stopped to say hello.

How did they give you neg ratings if they were trial users?

Oh, this was maybe the first week in July. I'm not sure if they were trials or not; it was so long ago. James Bunderfield - who IS a new German resident - is very pleasant to talk to.

This happened to me yesterday! I was minding my own business and some noob came by asking me questions about the game. He asked me several times how to beat the game. Most surprisingly, after 5 minutes of talking, he started asking me if I was a computer. I immediately asked back 'Are you on crack?" After a few more of the same questions whether I'm a computer, his true colors show and admit he's really Darwin!

Nice one buddy, you just about had me going you bastard :p

This is why I run around as a little girl. :D

Luckily, the new players I have met have generally been very nice and appreciated the help I give them... the only one I was irritated with was the guy last week who was pushing Ironchef and I around in Olive with his green half circle... until I sicced Jeff on him. :p

Heh, welcome to the internet...

Anything that becomes popular online is usually immediately destroyed by the angry throngs running around destroying the environment everyone else created. You can't stop it, unless the Lindens purposely try to keep the community small... which won't happen.

Once we hit around 5,000 concurrent players, it's going to become nigh-unbearable unless we can think of some other way to deal with the influx of l33t k1dd13s that put my generation to shame (i'm 21, btw... I think I'm generation Y or something :)
