I think the point is, correct me if I'm wrong, that the owner of the items isn't coming in world, and the Lindens are refusing to transfer them to Lecktor, as they probably should because Ace, although he may have said so to Lecktor, didn't give the Lindens express permission to transfer them, and he owns the copyright.. So unless Ace comes back to SL or phones up LL, I don't think theres much that can be done..

Cienna, read you own quote (in your sig.) and don't be suprised that LL does what it wants. A discussion of what LL should do is obvioulsy out of place. That being said, what can we do to help is a relevant question.

Considering they can clearly confirm the land sale, and considering also that Ace has maintained that memorial over his entire 'lifetime' in SL, what kind of dense would you have to be not to get that the point of the sale for $0L was intended to insure the memorial lived on...?

I didn't say I was surprised. The discussion of what should be done is not out of place, since the events can clearly be documented by their own logs and at least one member involved in the transaction.

What 'we' can do is precisely nothing. We can't make payments on Ace's account to keep it going. LL has to either get a clue or we get to watch this memorial bite the dust.

Actually, Ace sold the land to Leck (for $0L) and was giving Leck the objects as well. But he flubbed on the settings and the objects didn't transfer owner with the sale. Now he (Ace) is unable to log in or contact LL for reasons I won't state here. Ace *wanted* Leck to keep this build going.

I've emailed support about this issue with a plea. I hope to hear something soon.

I don't deny that its OBVIOUS Ace wanted Leck to have the items, continue the memorial etc etc..

But without express written permisison its a violation of copyright.. I believe..

This is tragic. I do think that the Lindens will do what they can to do what Ace would want them to do. It's probably just going to take some time, now that it has been brought to their attention.

Strictly speaking, you are correct. I suppose my real disgust lies in the reality that they cannot even be consistantly inconsistant.

If a collection is taken up to pay the back tier on this, please let me know. Also, please let Ace know that he is in the hearts and prayers of us all.

I don't want it to seem like I don't care... Want it to be transfered to Leck too!! Just being realistic and trying not to bite the Lindens heads off.. If theres something they CAN do I'm sure they will.. But if its a matter of policy, their hands may be tied..

I'm not sure if that is enough. Even though I agree that it appears this is what Ace wanted. I think LL has to lean towards CYA here or they will be setting a dangerous precedent.

ack! I wasn't quite ready to air this in the official forum but here it is.
There can be no fund raising as I cannot satisfy the owing land use fees. Only Ace can as these were incurred the month he downgraded before leaving SL. I contacted LL by phone and was told even if Ace called them, a transfer would not be made until he had paid his arrears. So sadly it seems the memorial will be gone until I can rebuild it, a monumental task if you've ever seen this as it stands today. It has not been updated in months but the people memorialized there today already numbers over 1000.

Valid argument but you see for reasons irl I cannot reveal Ace will not be able to ever make this happen.

Damn the rules and regulations for once for goodness sake! Open up a collection, throw in the Lindens, pay off the back tier costs and transfer the memorial! I live in a country (the UK) where we are strangled with red tape. For once...can we just do the COMMON SENSE thing.

Sorry to hear about this Lecktor. Hopefully something can be done and I wish Ace well.

Could this be more of a technical issue on LL's side? Maybe they can not access the inventory because of technical reason unless the account is paid and reopened?

It sounds like bull crap, but I have a similiar issue with my RL business and customers often do not understand it is more of software restrictions in place for security, not my company trying to milk more money out of them.

Maybe someone there would like to help but it is a software limitation stopping them. What may seem like something simple to fix to the end user is a development nightmare to go through for the rare special case.

I'm a bit tired so I'm having trouble understanding this. Are you saying that it just needs someone to pay Ace's tier so that his items will remain in-world? If so, how much will it take?

I will personally pay all back fees owed by Ace provided:

1. Linden Lab accepts my payment in Ace's stead
   
2. Linden Lab transfers the items that Ace intended to give Lecktor, to Lecktor (note, Lecktor owns and is paying for the land, just the object transfer was flubbed, and could have been an asset server error *or* user error)
   
3. Linden Lab makes some statement, any statement, regarding their stance on this issue on these forums.
   

I decline to comment on the morality of LL in this instance.

No I'm sorry the word I got was that Ace himself has to make the payment and that is not possible at this time unfortunately. I cannot say more as to why.

Couldn't they just send somebody in and change the permission on those items? And thus no need for others to cover the tier?
