From: Jauani Wu will this be a first for charity event thread getting locked? a linden sanctioned/endorsed charity to boot! Why not...this was the week that an "I love you" thread in personal notices was locked because people just did not have the self control to stop mud slinging <SNIP...DELETE...EDIT TO CORRECT...> OK I am editing this post because a friend was kind enough to point out that I was mischaracterizing the reason for the locked I love you thread. It wasnt that those who posted disliked me, it was that they disagreed with my actions and opinions, so a personal insult post was made about me having bad character in an announcement thread made by my boyfriend to tell me he loves me...so becasue there was a disagreement with something I did to someone else that was not their business but there was an inability to refrain from saying i had bad character in the I love you thread ....but that doesnt mean it was dislike.... it sucked

From: Jauani Wu - criticism, cynicism, and making you cry. i hope i can earn you at least 100 L$. that's the starting bid right? For all of that, we might have to raise the starting bid higher for you.

OK everyone. Please keep things here focused on the auction and keep it respectful. I really don't want to close this thread. This is for an excellent cause.
Thank you.
P.S. I like long walks on the beach and am a fun date. Bid away!

Robin Linden will not be able to attend the auction bc of a prior commitment BUT she said I could auction her off in absentia.

Thanks, Satai. I think you would auction for much more than $1k.... but even if you didn't fetch as high an amount as... oh, say the Lindens for example, whatever you did bring would be another drop in the bucket where every little bit counts.

From: Cristiano Midnight The original post in this thread was fine, the event and the reason for raising money are wonderful. However, I stand behind what I said and I am not ashamed of it. I was offended by Phoenix's post as it was stated. Ultimately, whatever motivates someone to give, giving is a good thing. However, basically saying this is not poor people in Africa, these are your neighbors is moral relativism that I find extremely distasteful. As I mentioned, Cristiano, how you interpreted my words was not at all how I meant it. My apologies. I simply meant that a disaster somewhere far away always has a lesser impact in the minds of most people than one near at hand. I meant in no way to imply that the lives of those in Ethiopia, Somalia, or any other third world nation are in any way less valid or of less value than those of Americans, only that the impact of a disaster in our back yards, so to speak, is greater, in the same way that the WTC terror attacks had far more emotional effect on us than hearing the news of an equally reprehensible suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, for example. Please accept my apology for the impression that my words left in your mind. P2

P2 Phoenix, Thank you for the apology - I apologize as well. Your heart is definitely in the right place, and it is easy in a medium like this to get tangled up in words. I am a bit overwrought myself about the whole thing - this is the same storm that first hit only a few miles from where I live only days before it hit New Orleans. I feel an odd sense of guilt that we here got off so lucky by it. Not rational, I know, but at the same time, it's surreal to think that the storm that knocked the hell out of us in Miami went on to just decimate somewhere else. It feels sort of like being on the winning side of a game of Russian roulette. Additionally, the media exploitation of the tragedy, combined with the almost unfathomably pathetic government response in the critical first days after the hurricane has just combined to make me extremely edgy and sad about the whole thing. I understand what you were saying about Ethiopia/Somalia - somehow something in our own backyard has a way of jolting people out of their own bubble of safety. Given the fact that much of the slowness in response to help the hurricane victims has seemed on some levels to be about who they are (as Babara Bush put it, many of these people were really poor before, so this has been working out well for them), I just took your comments about the poor in Africa the wrong way, and for that I do apologize. The outpouring of support in SL has been nothing short of miraculous. Thank you for your post, it was very gracious.

From: Katt Kongo Uh huh... I thought that would get your attention. Seriously though, several Lindens have agreed to participate in the Charity Ball and Auction on Sept. 13 at 6 pm SLT. Keep reading for all of the juicy details. I have wanted to hold a fundraiser for the victims of Hurricane Katrina for some time now. I have trying to come up with something that would raise some money and would also be enjoyable. So the formal ball and auction is one thing I thought would be fun..
However, we won't be auctioning off clothing, skins or vehicles. We'll be auctioning off residents of Second Life... perhaps those you have always wanted to get to know better.
If you are the high bidder, you will win a date with the person you bid on. Winning does not include any sexual activities however (that's our official disclaimer), just a fun evening of getting to know someone a bit better. You could find a quiet spot and chat with your auction "prize." Or ask him/her to show you his/his favorite places in SL, how to design, build, script, animate.... the fun you will have!
I intend to put myself on the block. If you would like to do the same, simply send me a notecard in-world, with your boigraphy (make it interesting) and name the notecard "AUCTION ME!"
Also up for bidding (so far) is Bub Linden, Blue Linden, Nova Linden,Maureen McLean, Cheronne Basset, Phoenix Psaltery and Jesse Murdock. I hope to get many of you infamous posters to join in. Remember that it is for a good cause.
If you plan to attend, we will be selling tickets starting today. Maureen McLean is in charge of ticket sales, so please contact her.
ALL $L generated by this event will go to the victims of Hurricane Katrina via the American Red Cross. AUCTION ME! I will leave a notecard shortly, but I thought the thread could maybe use a gentle bump.

Thanks, Shaun. It did need a bump. I also wanted to tell everyone that Jeska Linden has agreed to be auctioned, although she might not be able to be present.
We are also asking that those who have agreed to be auctioned off to please purchase a ticket. Tickets are limited bc we can only have some many people present. They are $250L each and can be purchased from Maureen McLean.

Thank you all for donating your time and money to this cause. Donations and ticket sales have brought in alot of L for the victims. I am sure the auction will bring in as much if not more and I am honored and proud to be part of this. There are still spots available so if your interested please IM me in game and I will send you a ticket and add you to the temp. group to ensure you have access to the event

I wonder how much it would cost to buy ALL the Lindens and get the Marilyn Monroe treatment from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Can someone please make sure Katt gets this message?? A family friend just got run off the road about an hour ago while on her motorcycle. She is alive, and not horribly hurt, but we know at least that her collarbone is broken. My husband and I are going to the hospital to see her and see if she needs anything. I will not be able to make this event tonight. If it helps the charity, I am happy to still be auctioned off. I just can't be there. Whatever Katt decides is fine. Have fun all of you.
