I define love not as something that happens to you but as something you do. I think the way love is portrayed in popular culture as effortless and magical where you just look at someone across a crowded room and then live happily ever after is far more damaging to society than violence in media. People grow up believing that if love isn't effortless and easy then there's something missing and they give up on their relationship and move on. Love isn't an involuntary response... that's infatuation and lust and it fades in time. Love is a choice. At least that's how I see it ![]() Funny... I've been thinking about this a long time. I'm in the process of writing a book where the core undercurrent is love in a tale of generations and history. For this I've been interviewing my maternal grandparents who've been together 56 years. 56. The story goes that my grandmother was two weeks away from marrying some other guy when she met my grandfather at a town ball (they still had a "community" thing going back in those days). She knew that night she would marry my grandfather instead. And she did -- 56 years later, still happy. So I think the idealistic romanticism of some fundamental connection between two people is the basis for love. The decision is to love them. To be with this person, to know them, to forgive them, offer them solice from the world, and take solice in them. Unite together and be naked in the darkness of the world to validate your existence in the lack of anything else but eachother. ... and I'll stop there before I start dusting off my ballads, sonnets, poems, and epics. ![]() _____________________

No! Just experimenting with a whole new way to troll threads without saying a word. You may have been trolling - but that is a totally awesome freak'n picture! If Mom bear could speak she couldn't say "back off from my baby" any louder. _____________________

To be with this person, to know them, to forgive them, offer them solice from the world, and take solice in them. That's a great story, Icon. I definitely believe that the chemistry between two people is something that can't be controlled. There has to be that fundamental attraction that draws you together in the first place. Everything after that is a choice. I like the way you put it. _____________________

I remember as you gave me your hand, I felt so safe,
my world was so peacefull with you, so perfect... and every night I could sleep very well with your warm hug, and every morning, your voice gave me power for a new day , new start, ... I prayed and asked God to never lose you ...but you went without to say good bye...you turned to be a lighting star in my darkness and now I pray every night to see your smile once more in my dream, I pray not to lose all memories, I pray to be with you as soon as possible, I miss you badly daddy, and you know your little baby girl will never forget you, I love you! Thank you God to let me know what is LOVE! ( In memory of the best daddy on the world, my daddy!) |

Two lovers sat on a park bench, with their bodies touching each other, holding hands in the moonlight.
There was silence between them. So profound was their love for each other, they needed no words to express it. And so they sat in silence, on a park bench, with their bodies touching, holding hands in the moonlight. Finally she spoke. "Do you love me, John?" she asked. "You know I love you, darling," he replied. "I love you more than tongue can tell. You are the light of my life, my sun, moon and stars. You are my everything. Without you I have no reason for being." Again there was silence as the two lovers sat on a park bench, their bodies touching, holding hands in the moonlight. Once more she spoke. "How much do you love me, John?" she asked. He answered: "How much do I love you? Count the stars in the sky. Measure the waters of the oceans with a teaspoon. Number the grains of sand on the sea shore." "Impossible, you say? Yes, and it is just as impossible for me to say how much I love you. My love for you is higher than the heavens, deeper than Hades, and broader than the earth. It has no limits, no bounds. Everything must have an ending except my love for you." There was more of silence as the two lovers sat on a park bench with their bodies touching, holding hands in the moonlight. Once more her voice was heard. "Kiss me, John," she implored. And leaning over, he pressed his lips warmly to hers in fervent osculation. _____________________
