If Private Islands from LL was 100 dollars a month, instead of $200, Would you buy the islands from LL?

I believe that if the price per month was lowered down to $100, people would buy more islands, not sure.. VOTE and we will see :)

Yes.

But it's not going to happen.

I voted no. But it isn't because I would not be interested. It is simply that I cannot afford to spend more than $25 total on SL a month. And that is what I pay total right now. I don't even dream of owning a sim because it will never happen. :p

If I could find a way to have it make money to offset some of the cost, I would seriously consider it. (I didn't see a "would consider it" option on the poll.)

Actually, my response would be "possibly", but that was not a poll option. :)

It's not the initial cost of the island that is a problem for me, but I'd hate to pay even $100 dollars a month, if or some reason I was not able to be in world much as has been the case of late.

Probably not. $100/month isn't within my budget either.

However....

Dropping the price of Island Sims to $100 could have an interesting effect on Tier overall:

Would the theory be to slash all tier prices by half?

And if not - what would that do (if anything) to the mainland land market?

Just questions - I don't have answers :D

Fate Garden can afford $100 a month rental. The initial purchase price would still take a few months to accumulate. The questions are "can LL afford to lower the estate setup and rental fees and still make a profit" and, if so, "are they willing to accept less of a profit for the extended volume?"

We'll never know these things because they're necessarily closely guarded boardroom secrets. LL can't risk the competition knowing such things as their costs of business and profit margins.

Not sure either, but an island-only reduction would probably have a disastrous effect on the mainland. It would give island owners a *huge* advantage in the rental business and probably make it much more interesting to "rent" rather than "buy".

For me, its like asking if I would buy a Lamborghini for $100,000 instead of $200,000. Its just not going to happen either way.

No. At least, not until I had a build idea in mind that needed that much room. I don't understand the point behind private islands that are just a cluster of shops and haphazard builds. If I got an island, it would be for a cohesive themed build.

No. And it's not a matter of interest, but discretionary funds.

Naturally lowering the price would attract more people. I would not be one of them, though.

Nope not interested. Seems silly to spend good money on imaginary property. If had spare moneny to spend on such things I can think of a dozen things in the real world I would rather do.

No. But I might consider a dedicated or shared server when they distribute the sim code.

I would definatly make it more of a concideration if the price was cheaper but that always goes without saying. When prices go down more people WILL particpate.

I would definately take on sims at a higher rate, but I think it would spell doom for the main grid.

I would definately take on sims at a higher rate, but I think it would spell doom for the main grid.

It would certainly indicate that LL had abandoned the idea of owning The Metaverse and decided to concentrate on server software development and simple hosting. It would then be feasible for them to concentrate some resources on a more open client as well as their original goal of designing immersive hardware.

It seems doubtful they'll opt for this path though as it would require that the whole project become very big league. LL seems more like a fun kind of place for semi-retired people who've already made their mark in the industry. It would also shatter the basic premise that we actually own virtual land. Philip's recent interview seems to indicate that the pivot between forming a software & hardware development company or building a game out of user-created content was the notion of the players having a vested interest in the company's assets which, according to him, we do. Come to think of it, if the whole project is now based on such an obviously false notion, there's no telling where it'll head next.
