We have all heard the horror stories. She turns out to be a he, or he is actually looking a lot like a she. The breathtaking picture sent of a super model came from some online site, and bears no relationship to their actual appearance. They are married and say they are single. They are 50 and say 25, or are 16 and say 28. They claim to be brain surgeons who really serve blue plate specials. They brag about being published authors whose most renowned work turns out to be a high school essay. The life they describe as their own turns out to be completely fabricated.
How do you know the truth, and more important, does the truth matter if your relationship is limited to online only? Maybe the SL fantasy so predominate that real life, reality, becomes irrelevant.
Have you been deceived by one you loved and trusted in SL, and if yes, how did you find out the truth?

j/k Seriously I think this question is about as old as the Internet itself. If they are tricking you I doubt there is any way you would find out unless they told you. Well I guess the possibilty of them giving away too much information at some point might come up. The longer you know a person online the more information you are bound to uncover about them. Slip ups and conflicting stories are going to happen over time if you are indeed being tricked I would imagine. Could keep a journal of facts near your computer (not unlike a stalker journal) and see if any slip ups occur if you were really set on finding out.  |

I do, and we have shared CC#s and the like (which was before we met RL, kind of risky in retrospect, but sometimes you get that feeling after many hours on the phone and such, that you can trust someone in this manner). We have the benefit of having spent over 3 weeks together in RL since then however, so I am not sure that we fit your definition.
On the trust issue - fidelity wise - that's a tuffy - distance (in our case about 1200 miles) can strain that type of trust. It caused me to be a bit of an ass at first, but I (and her through her patience with me) have worked through that and things are going very well now. I hope to be flying out to see her again in a month or two. _____________________

And yeah, I have been burned in the past by others. No, not gonna say anything about how. As for shes turning out to be hes, well... that one is not so sticky an issue for me.  _____________________

That would have been before now. My current online Relationship (course its only 2 months) she hasnt. Hopefully she wont. Shes not on very much so by necessaity we have to keep things in perspective, that might help. |

Yes I do trust my SL partner. No we don't do CC #'s and stuff but we could it it became necessary. He's totally commited in r/l and so am I. He means my SL world to me.
Yes I have been screwed over .... in TSO tho.. He turned out to be a She and since i'm not bisexual I was uhhh * shivers* a lil put off (LOL) Tho after the shock wore off I did consider continuing the relationship but the trust factor was then shot to heck. how'd I find out... LOL his /her friends in TSO told me ..... you know... the close ones that you are supposed to be able to trust NOW .... I watch for lil clues like..... "This is a game and i'm playing it. " on their bio's. I was also warned that a big percentage females in SL are males. _____________________
