Recent SL happenings got you down? Don't feel like being represented by anyone? Maybe Anarchism is the group for you! It's an oldie but a goodie! The group is free to join. Go to FIND then hit the GROUPS tab and put in "Anarchism". Then hit "join". Charter:We believe in maintaining freedom from all forms of resident governance, and a promotion of individual rights. Let those that wish to be governed, achieve this through Group membership - we will walk our own path.

I'm in. If people want to control how the world works I suggest they take their money and influence and either get their own sim with their own rules and leave the rest of SL alone, or go someplace else.

"anarchist" and "group" in the same sentence

From: Jesrad Seraph "anarchist" and "group" in the same sentence I love contradictions. Torleys of alternate virtual realities had a vote. 10 in favor, 4 not, an unknown number abstained. From: Jesrad Seraph "anarchist" and "group" in the same sentence Does that make it..."not group?" I will consider this.... I'm in so few groups as it is. -Taylor

Elie brings up an interesting thought in this thread: From: Elie Edo The important thing is to calm this outcry about "not in my name" by making it absolutely clear that this particular group has NO preferential position, no license to represent anyone but themselves, and never will have. She's talking about Lobby groups. If there's an interest that is special to me, its that no one will speak for me without my approval. -Ghoti

From: Lora Morgan Anarchy in the SL Actually, it sounds like the Sex Pistols. I am getting that sinking feeling that time is drawing nigh for a citizen-elected representational body. I do not plan to join the Anarchism Group (not that I have been asked, or anything ). The reason: just like MJW, I do not see a fully-formed set of ideas and/or ideals. I suppose the presentation of its charter in full would help me make a more informed choice.

Forming groups, writing statements of principle, and engaging in collective action do not at all violate the tenets of anarchism as I understand them.
Anarchism does not contend that people should position themselves equidistantly and ignore each other's existence, and there is nothing surprising or contradictory about people with a consistent and fundamental opposition to Statism banding together in groups.
Consistent, principled objection to Statism does not require forgoing the option of forming into groups for the attainment of common goals or satisfying individual ends through combined efforts.
Anarchism isn't necessarily about not working together or refusing to cooperate with other people, a good bit of anarchist thought focuses on rejecting the the initiation of force as a legitimate means of accomplishing your goals, be they individual goals or social and political goals.
The good reason why an anarchist wouldn't use Second Life as a means to advance the cause of anarchism is that Second Life is a terrible means to collaborate on work. You can't do simple filesharing of word processing or desktop publishing files, much less do multiuser markup and annotation on files. The chat functions are exceedingly primitive and limited. There is no video conferencing, no voice chat, no multiuser sketchpad, no faxing, no printing, no spell check, no mailing list manager
If Statists would select Second Life as their means of organizing the initiation of force the supporters of peaceful social interaction could breathe a big sigh of relief.
