The jail thing is only part of it. I'd imagine that punishment/policing of any sort by residents would be difficult for many people to take. Unless it's part of a game in a specific zone, where you have a choice on whether or not you go there and participate in it. Resident mediators would prolly work well, but power to punish would not. Selling something for a better price is called: ECONOMY ! If someone gets cheated and he lost money(like gambling or something) it's his own fault.

that is slightly different issue right? i mean what we are talking about is someone selling something that the original creator took time to create, there is no sales agreement, so the perpetrator is basically taking money away from the original creator because if they weren't selling said object, then the only place for said object to be bought from would be the creator... hmm long sentence, hope it makes sense. i think ultimately, it will have to be judged on a case by case basis. for example if i write a script and give it to someone, and they turn around and sell it, i would be kind of annoyed since, i wrote it for them, and now they are making money off it. Or i could look at it this, the person who bought it just got suckered, cause if they had talked to me, i would have just given it
