Will you been using the ROAM thing? that lets you teleport into the location with out using the teleport feature?
Roam is the new Teleport alternative. You have to pay a fee to use it. You arrive to your location with out having to "RELOG" or get error messages. works on maingrid.
WILL YOU USE THIS HELPFUL TOOL?

At first, I was iffy about the Roam, and said as much to Rathe & Francis when discussing it, but after trying it out this last week (particularly with broken TP's yesterday) I've discovered that it's really very handy.

Thanks everyone for all their kind words and feedback in this and every other of the 3.48e12 threads in forums I'm honestly blown away by the interest we've received over this, and it really knocks my socks off how this ROAM phenomenon has exploded. It's kinda funny looking back with the benefit of hindsight. The whole idea behind this tech was to distribute new products as fast and efficiently as possible. And whooo boy has it ever worked..... At this point, we're become kinda victims of our own success, the goal of beta period was not to produce hype or revenue, it was just trying to put the system through its paces. I just want to remind everyone that we still are in beta mode, and we're working really hard to address the feedback we've been getting and to improve the overall system before official release. If there are any Lindens reading, we would looooove a little TLC regarding a certain mailserver you guys are managing... Now if you excuse me, I'm going back to hide in my cave until this whole "roam phenomenon" blows over... *thunk*

The bookmarks don't work for me on the new continent. Hopefully this will be addressed. Still, manually it's incredibly fast. Much faster than the X-rod thingy out there. It still isn't very friendly with prim clothes though . Fix the bookmarks though and I'll be a customer for life P. Or untill something better comes along . (fickle customer)

Yes. The discussions on point to point teleporting leave little reason for me to hope that the default method of transport within SL will change any time soon. I can understand not wanting to pay for a service which the system is already capable of providing but I'm not spending any more time wishing it were so.

I'll check it out when it comes out of Beta. It needed to be done for sure. But I'm curious what effect if any it will have on sim and grid performance if it goes into widespread use. It was obvious to me from almost the beginning that this type of product would be a huge success. It's not trivial to implement given all the bugs in SL. I gave up. Like some others, it just looked like the problem would be too kludgy to implement well. But my hats off to the team. I'll follow its evolution closely.

Subscriptions may be renewed or extended at anytime. You will NOT be automatically rebilled. I'm just not sure it would be worth it to me to subscribe to the ROAM system. If I were looking for a system like this, however, I would definitely trust Francis and Rathe to provide a superior product and good customer service. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for some sort of point-to-point teleport changes coming from the Lindens in a future update.

I love the whole idea. However, since I don't travel that much, I'll probably wait until the Release of the semi-final version (non-beta) and then purchase it. I think the pricing is fine. Hell..one clothes shopping spree (if I could find men's clothing I like) would cost me more than a years worth of ROAMING with free upgrades. It's a great deal, just like Francis always offers (Seburo's for example).

I'll use it. Mostly because Francis made it though. And her stuff is so amazing! I bought her Seburo just because it is so neat! I've never fired it a day in my SL life though.. hehe

I don't have enough problems with teleporting to warrant the expense, especially with the mixed results people have been reporting in the forums. If I want to teleport successfully a portion of the time, I can already do it for free.

I don't travel too much, being a hermit and all.....but I think the price is not bad considering the RL server resources it requires to do something like this. I am a coder for the Ginko Financial ATM network, so I know what it's like to heat up a mail server. Great job guys.

Roam works really well if you own several plots of land that are somewhat near to each other. I can hop between my land in Abbotts, Miramare, Boardman, and Gray faster than I can teleport and/or fly between each of them. I also like the tracker feature.

The Linden system works just fine for me and I see no reason to spend money on something just because it's new and kool.

What? L$400 per month! That doesn't make me happy at all. It's time to get Francis Chung to reverse engineer this thing. Oh wait. ~Ulrika~

Neat idea, but costs too much for me.
As someone who lives off stipends, doesn't sell anything, or cash in GOM, something like this just isn't in my price range.
Monthly payments are too frequent. Yearly payment too high.

Oh wait. ~Ulrika~ A year's subscription works out to $250L per month. That is hardly an outrageous price. I repeat PEOPLE PAY $5000L FOR A COPY OF A FREAKING TEXTURE. This device is incredibly useful - by raging about the price, you are basically saying their efforts are not worthwhile.

Some people dont even want to pay $1000 for a skin. Some people dont want to pay anything for a skin. And this thread is asking if people will use ROAM. So some people posted they wont be using it and why. Price is a factor. Let them speak even if you feel indifferent. I dont run around in SL and see someone wearing the default SL skin and yell at them "You cheap bastard! Look at my skin, its great! Go buy it!".

This device is incredibly useful - by raging about the price, you are basically saying their efforts are not worthwhile. I wouldn't pay 5000 for a texture, and never have. I also don't pay 1000 for an outfit or upwards for a "limited edition" outfit. And I never will. Nor will I pay $250 a month for something I have no problem doing for free right now. Saying you find something too expensive to be useful for you is hardly "raging" about the price. There are a lot of things in game I choose not to buy based on price. If that's saying their efforts are not worthwhile, then so be it. You haven't purchased every single item I've ever created.. are you saying my efforts are not worthwhile?

I used ROAM extensively last night. I did have to recompile one time when I decided to use the SL teleport. Then again, I had to reset ALL the scripted attachments I had on, cuz it happens.
But ROAM's handy for me when I need to go to multiple locations across the grid. No more teleporting to the nearest telehub then flying over to the place. Then teleporting again to the nearest hub to get to another place. I'll be subscribing to it.
