Behavioral Therapist here I work with autistic children ~ basically teaching ~ one on one ~ and have the pleasure of helping them find sense in the world. Not as high profile as many people here i am sure ... but extremely fulfilling. With intense early intervention many of these children can reach heights not thought possible. "If a child can't learn in the way that we teach, then we must teach in a way he can learn."

I'm a stay-at-home mom, too, for just over six years. I used to be a student advisor/counselor at the University of Washington. I have a bachelor's degree in English with a minor in journalism. I always thought I'd be a journalist when I grew up because I like writing, but I'm lousy at the politics involved. I've also worked at a newspaper for a short time and, for whatever reason, the working atmosphere didn't appeal to me.
Future plans include going back to work in a college or university support position when my kids are older and possibly working on an advanced degree. Staying at home with my kids has been rather boring and somewhat unfulfilling, but I just didn't trust their care to other people. I have enjoyed volunteering several days a week at my son's elementary school while he was in kindergarten this past year; I look forward to doing more of that in the coming year, as well.

What I do...
07-04-2005 20:32
..., I wear many hats.
Until the Telecomm bust I was the IT Operations & Data Center Manager for a division one of the top 3 Telecomm companies in the US (may the fleas of 1000 camels infest their Executive armpits). After the bust I got RIFed (RIF = Reduction In Force = Lay Off) in the reorganization.
After that I started my own IT consulting company, which I am still nurturing with high hopes of early "retirement", while I'm currently working as a Sr. IT Infrastructure Project Manager for Shell Oil.

From: Cocoanut Koala I have a Master's Degree in Experimental Psychology from the University of Texas, but I quit at that level, having decided I didn't want to make it my life's work. I became a writer instead, and now I am a contributing editor for a national magazine (which is a fancy word for favored writer, so I've always worked from home.) Before I got kids, I was also an aerobics teacher and taught dance - tap and ballet - to children and adults. For volunteer work, I've taught crafts in an assisted living home and was a Brownie leader for five years. I have a husband, a dog, a cat, and two teenage girls, not necessarily in that order. So now you know me. coco Well of course the order should be, a dog, then the cat, then one of the daughters, the husband and then the other....it just makes more sense that way huh?

From: Alexin Bismark ... (may the fleas of 1000 camels infest their Executive armpits). LMAO!!!! no way.. i haven't seen that in YEARS i used to have those crazy fake parking tickets.. stuck 'em on a bunch of cars too. sorry for derailing for a sec.. my RL job? well, being the "alt" i am i don't consider myself as having a RL counterpart. to me, that would be Cybin.. so, i would only have an SL job.. and that's to run and oversee operations for "Second Life : Ultimate Truth".. or rather, as many know the tabloid better as, "SL:UT".

I am a hitter of the Monsters. I am the best. The Monsters Call me “Death” and my old team calls me the Undertaker. I use to be the fastest but that Anita Blake Chick is almost my equal now. Give her a few more years.

From: Garoad Kuroda Depends, do you consider 75k+ a year after a few years a jackpot? I guess it's a "special" part of the govt...lol.. not like the DMV... For the win, quit and come back as a consultant Corporate Trainer/Help Desk here, transitioning out of web design, which was a transition out of clerical/receptionist.

From: The Quirk so, i would only have an SL job.. and that's to run and oversee operations for "Second Life : Ultimate Truth".. or rather, as many know the tabloid better as, "SL:UT". *ahem* The Second Life Herald is the official tabloid of Second Life, thank you very much. jk where can I read this SL:UT, The? Why don't we have a content-sharing agreement in place with you? meanwhile, in RL, I'll continue with my work as a freelance journalist and author.

From: Travis Lambert I originally went to college for Criminal Justice - partied way too hard, and ended up in this career purely on accident. UR just too nice to be a cop. Stay at home mom here, run an In-home daycare....love it, lets me be available for my kids, don't get out much though. Used to be a CNA for about 6 yrs and also a merchandiser for a few. Went to school for Educational Interpreting for the Deaf. Quit w/ just a semester to go...ahh well may go back to school someday

web design/dev and real estate invenstments. i'm shifting the ratio of my income so that the majority of it comes from real estate investing, allowing me to drop down to part-time contract web stuff - it'll take me a few years to fully make the transition (under 5yrs).

I wouldn't classify 75k as a 'jackpot' - but that is probably more a reflection of how little that will get you where I live. If you were living in a cheaper part of the country, 75k might be livin' large - but not here.

I work for a large bank, do clerical work where they process mortgages. I'm pretty sure that the corporate security training they've hammered into my head tells me that I can't mention the name of the bank, because then if anyone asks me, "How do you spell mortgage" I have taken a verbal application, and there are some terrible lurking liabilities I'm unprepaired to deal with.
Before that I worked in restraunt managment. Ok, that's a lie, it was really an Arby's. Before THAT I had an IT job doing light coding, graphic design, templates for e-commerce websites, ect. Been thinking of taking some Micro$oft certification courses and trying to get back into the IT industry.

If you were living in a cheaper part of the country, 75k might be livin' large - but not here. Where? LA? Considering that most cities are ripoff central, I'm not shocked. The 75k is only after a few years though... after that, over 100k, etc. I'll put it this way... if you start work just after college, by 24/25 you'd probably be around 75k, and well before 30 you'd be over 100k I guess. Sounds good to me, although maybe I'm just not as greedy or money hungry as others! 75k in CA really isn't so good huh? And ya I could come back as a contractor I suppose, but I'd rather have the job security. Besides, I'm an employee so I'm much more trusted and considered "above" contractors in alot of ways. I get special privledges! lol Edit: btw, working for THE MAN--to keep people down--is very rewarding! (lol)

WTF is C3PO supposed to be USEFUL for anyway, besides whining? Stupid piece of scrap metal would be more useful recycled as a toaster. But even that would suck, because who would want to listen to a whining wussy toaster? Is he gold plated? If that's the case he should just be melted down into gold ingots. Help the economy some, and stop being so damn useless you stupid bucket of bolts! R2 is 1,000 times more useful than your tin man ass, and he's shaped like a salt and pepper shaker FFS!

I work in an Emergency Room as a social worker and I love it but it's the midnight shift and it is killing me. I feel like I never get any sleep.

Long time since I graduated high school. Had quite a few jobs since then. Settled down and then I was a stay at home mom for 5 and a half years. During that time the internet came into being. I taught myself HTML and CSS and continued to have hobbies revolving around computers (inside and out). My daughter started pre-school year before last, and I got a job as the head of the Ecommerce and IT at a company I have known for years. I really love my job.
