OK, I'm better now. Lost my mind, just for a moment.

I actually think it looked better than There, even with the graphical glitches! Would you rather play in a cartoony world trying to look real or in a graphically enhanced world trying to look real? There will never change their graphics to be not-cartoons, so I'm stickin' with SL on the "better graphics" department (1.1-wise, 1.0 is easily put to shame).

Another thing I forgot to mention in my original post, but was somthing that people don't know about and wasn't talked of yet! Our avatars BREATHE! Our chests heave in and out! It's crazy lookin!

Finally, I want to say that the bobbing of the camera while 3rd person flying is changeable in the preferences menu, so if you think that "I should have the ability to turn that off", you already do! :D

We plan to have more 1.1 tests in the next couple of weeks so more residents will have the chance to take an advanced look. Check the Announcements section of the fourms.

I think the higher numbered MX cards are clocked faster and have more memory. However, they are still bacically fast GF2 cards. I could be wrong, but the MX420s can have as little as 32 megs of ram, which would make it difficult to run SL decently.

That's probably what's been killing me... the 32 MB thingy... damn...

I haven't seen anyone mention this.. but did anyone else experience major avatar corruption / distortion in the 1.1 preview? My avatar (and everyone elses on my screen - but not necessarily on theirs) was severely messed up... eyes not in sockets... body squashed.. and in a perpetual "cross" position... with pieces of his arms being stretched downward. None of his limbs would even move / animate. Very strange... I wish i had remembered to download a snapshot.

I have an ATI Radeon 9700 Pro... and since ATI's and SL often haven't gotten along in the past i'm assuming that's the reason.

Other than that major bug I'm quite happy with the changes they are making overall. (Exept for that abuse report thing.. yeah that has to go.. or be optional).

Dev this is a hype thread, not a put-down thread, that's why we aren't mentioning all the bad things that happened! ;) Yes pretty much everybody knows about the avatar corruptiobn, but we are attributing it to the fact that this is a beta (so things are bound to be broken) and also because of a poor database transfer (poor because it would probably have taken much longer to fully transfer everything onto the servers they let us play on).

So don't worry about the bugs, I think as we get to see more 1.1 previews, we'll notice them slowly going away :D

Ok I'm sorry about bringing a negative into the hype thread.. didn't mean to dampen the enthusiasm. I really am quite psyched about everything else! I just was curious if anyone else saw that as I didn't see it mentioned anywhere on the forum. Glad to know it wasn't just me...

Carry on... :)

You can't bump into one another with out an abuse report popping up??? Am I understanding this right? If this is the case, I agree with Pitucha! Has to, Has TO GO! Not all bumping is done in a mean heart spirit. Since there is no Hug animation. Alot of affection is also shown with bumping & pushing ! If you guys have a heart give us interaction aminamtions or do some thing that allows us to alter it when the abuse report pops up.

Another new (but silly) new feature...

I noticed that if you changed your av, but hit "revert" without saving, your av would make this rubbery stretching sound as it snapped back to normal. :D

I'm just puzzled. I was able to spend about 45 minutes in the Beta before it crashed. But during that time, I saw absolutely no graphical difference as compared to 1.0. I should mention that the terrain has always looked incredibly smooth and highly detailed on my system (Radeon 9200 LE 128MB DDR, Catalyst 3.7).

So, as for 'no more jaggies,' I've never had jaggies to begin with; neither during the 0.9 Beta, nor in 1.0.

I'm quite familiar with bump-mapping and reflectivity, I just couldn't see any evidence of either.

The map looked great, but I'd like to be able to make it quite a bit smaller than I was able to. And the mini map was way too small at 1280x1024.

I wasn't able to try any features other than changing my Avatar's appearance. The visual distortion was so severe that I can't make a meaningful judgment about the tools, though I can say that I dislike those silly sound effects. (I am NOT a Toon!!)

Again, I couldn't see any difference in my Avatar's appearance compared to the 1.0 norm, though the only part of my Avatar sufficiently undistorted enough to judge was the face.

Forgive me if I've tarnished the hype; I'm just puzzled.

BA I think what you do is use features of your video card through you desktop control panel which makes regular SL look better than it really is (at least to us minimalists who try to squeeze out as much FPS as we can from SL). The stretchy noise is there because they added a new feature, the ability to see your avatar stretch to and from new positions, rather than instantly change. The distortion is because it's beta silly! :D :D

And the bump- and env-mapping is on objects, so unless you played with an object or looked at someone else's, you're not going to see those effects.

Yes Darwin, definitely the 1.1 Preview edition.

And Dave is of course correct that I'm using Rage3D to tweak up the OpenGL capabilities of my video card. Obviously, I sacrifice a good bit of frame rate in the process. I'm lucky to hit 9 FPS at 256m visibility. But I'm not doing any type of sports activities in SL, so the trade-off is worth it. I've seen screen caps posted by others to show the quality of the terrain on their systems, and I have to say that mine is better.

Silly is as silly does...that stretchy sound made me feel like I'd been rezzed into the middle of a Loony Tune. What next...slide whistles?

Mark, all I can say is that I examined everything around me; which included streets, buildings, signs, and such. It's quite possible that I just didn't happen to be looking closely at any particular objects for which the new graphic features would make a noticeable difference.

Speaking for myself, Jack, I never get any.

The rumors are flying, and some say as early as the end of this week. Based on how much work still remains to be done on the new version, I'm inclined to think it will take at least 3-4 weeks. And the Lindens are smart enough not to make any promises.

As always, thanks for all the feedback... definitely a few good bug reports to look into here. WRT various stuff in this thread, a few answers:

The 'bump' notification will only pop up once to show you how to use it, subsequently it will be accessed in the same way as the abuse report, and will contain the record of the last few people who collided with you or acted on you with scripts. The behavior during the test (showing up every time) was a bug.

There is a bug with AV morphs not looking correct (you might have looked different than in 1.0). This will be fixed - not intentional.

There were large memory leaks on both simulators and viewers, so don't view the lag/FPS during the test as indicative of 1.1 performance.

There will be another test this week - let us know if you see the same stuff.
