I was pointing out the fact that simply because Dianetics as a religion/philosophy has a lot of good ideas doesn't make what the Church of Scientology does to its members a good idea. Agree or disagree with Dianetics, it *is* a set of beliefs on living life...and people have right to choose it as a lifestyle.
Yeah, but where I disagree is that Dianetics is not a set of beliefs. It's a set of self-help rules. Beliefs would be like "The Great Lord Xenu has imprisoned the aliens in volcanoes and blew them up 1 billion years ago, and now their souls pollute humans, and we didn't know about it until Sci-fi author L Ron Hubbard inven ... err ... discovered it." Dianetics is no more a set of beliefs than a Dr. Phil book. ... Ghoti, that video has me watching it OVER and OVER! Hysterical!

From: someone Cults brainwash their members. Scientology courses will lock people in rooms and force them to repeat mind-numbing dribble over and over until it becomes second-nature. They literally teach members totally new definitions for words that alters their language, and consequently the way they think. That sure sounds like brainwashing, to me. Yea, like having a "religion" with one book called the bible. A book that you talk about all the time. You even get together once or twice a week to talk about "the book". Then you interpret "the book" for your own self-righteous agendas. The book is the word and the word is good. The book may talk about crazy wacky things, but it is still important that you learn these things and read the book...again. Religions and cults are all the same. As far as I can tell, "cult" is a definition created by the existing cults to make you believe one is better than the other. It is all about control. Always has been, always will be. Brainwashing indeed.
