This should be a funny thread since most Linden Lab employees live in California.

If you live in California, please reply with who you are going to vote for in the upcomming election. And don't say "Governor Linden" :p

If you don't live in Cali, you can still reply with who you would vote for ;)

I personally think that Gary Coleman, Gallahger, and Arnold should run as a triumpherate :D

Arnold is running. :P

Well, I'd like to see Mr. Hustler in office just for fun, BUT...

Who's that woman again that's on all those billboards in LA? I see her all the time in her pink 57 Chevy. Well anywho, she's running lol

Yep, 200 people. It is SO embarrasing, I swear. And most of the people involved are in Brentwood, right near me. Strange, eh? No, no not really. :P

Man oh man. I'm glad I don't live in Cali. I'm still waiting to hear who the real candidates are but the media can't seem to stop blabbing on about arnold. He might actually be a smart guy but I have a bias against anyone who mangles the english language that badly. If no real candidates show up I think I'd write in Roger Rabbit. You want a celebrity? There... now you have a cartoon character for governor. Who's laughing now? huh? huh?

I am. That was quite funny :D

But really, it's a shame that because of this recall, EVERYONE with 65 friends and a Bic Crystal pen can be on the ballot.

Orange County, Calif here! The former hotbed of conservatism.

This whole fiasco is a true "California moment"

And I love it, wouldn't change it for a moment, except that it is going to cost we lowly taxpayers big bux.

And Arianna Huffington? Give me a break. Her ticket is "compact car vs Hummer"

Leave poor old Grey in place and let him bumble thru his term. Can't be any worse than that the others will do. We elected him, just let us suffer in peace. !!!

hmm, just noticed that I condradict myself. Oh well you know blondes!

I live in Sacramento… hehe

Well, I’m going to wait to make a choice until I hear some of the platforms/issues of some of the candidates… but with over $1 Billion in Personnel cuts for the State this Fiscal Year alone (not counting the elimination of all vacant positions *again*) and a 5% pay cut already into effect (retirement contributions increased but our scheduled pay increase to compensate the increase was reneged by the State without a likely return), I’ll be inclined to vote for someone who promises no more huge state employee cuts. I want to keep my job! :D

My friend says it would be cool if Arnold got elected because I would be working across the street from him *sigh*… not like I ever see the Gov anyway… hehe

I am afraid of the traffic situation, though… I bet downtown will be PACKED with people lining the streets for a glimpse of Arnold in his hummer. :p

My 25 cents on the matter:

I, for one, am voting for no impeachment.

For better or for worse, we elected Gray Davis and, unless he has been found to have done something illegal in either the election process or in some way that is detrimental to the state, impeachment shouldn't be an option.

Do I think he's the greatest governor we've had? No. Do I think he's better than Pete Wilson? Immeasurably!

The fact is, Gray Davis has inherited the tontine of blame from many of the decisions that came from Pete Wilson's 8 years in office, and probably a few from George Deukmajian's as well.

Does this mean he is toptally blameless for some of the things happening in our state? No. But, for example, the "energy crisis" we had was a direct result of Pete Wilson's governorship. Gray Davis certainly didn't help himself when he, probably in a panic, signed some new stopgap measures to bring more energy into the state without considering (or having his people) read the fine print/fiscal ramifrications.

As for the economy, Davis is getting the brunt of blame for something he has little control over. The fact is, the SF Bay Area has a housing/space shortage which has pushed the land costs here to a ridiculous premium and then, we made the mistake of buying too heavily into the "Silicon Valley" image we had. With space being at a premium, the cost of living has jumped, and continues to rise even in this supposably ended recession, the SF Bay Area lost a lot of its lower end manufacturing jobs to overseas and other states. Which , in some ways spared us from the beginning of the recession because the manufacturing jobs, which are the furst to go in a time when supply outstrips demand, but in the long term, will extend it, as we didn't get the boost to the economy when the manufacturing jobs came back.

Now add in the fact that Southern California has a similar issue in terms of land premium, and a lot of companies, to whom both Wilson and Davis gave great tax breaks to build here in the first place, are choosing to leave the state because our cost of living eats into their profit margain in temrs of property costs for them, as well as employee expenses. Face it, even if the state is giving you tax incentives, if you have to pay an engineer 120K in California where you are paying $7.00/sq foot for office space and huge workers comp premiums, or can move you entire company to say, Arizona, which will offer similar tax incentives, one of the most disability unfriendly environments Engineers that only make 80K and office space at $2.00/sq foot, why should they stay?

The heat, you say?

I don't think so. Right now, in the SF Bay Area, we are seeing ads for the latest Kaufman and Broad "executive" community located in Los Banos. Executive communites generally mean larger houses with actual yards. The problem? Los Banos is about 1.5 hours from San Jose via a road not equipped to handle commute traffic. And, when I drove through there 3 weekends ago, the temperature was a balmy 118 degrees, some 25 degrees warmer than the Bay Area and on that day, actually warmer than Phoenix and Tuscon. Oh, and the executive houses were about twice what you'd pay for a similar house in Arizona and the lots are smaller.

Obviously I've digressed here a lot, but I'm steadfast in my decision to vote no against the impeachment.

Governor linden for gov?
08-12-2003 09:36
We had a running joke here that we would throw Governor Lindens hat in the ring. Then would could change the state flag to have a hollow-cut-torii on it.

You gotta love our great state- the only place where putting your name on the governors ballot is easier than renewing your license.

Misnomer, I saw that Rotten site. If I lived in Cali, I couldn't vote for him after seeing that. *blink*

Why, you ask, was I looking? *shrug*

I'll vote Arnold, because ANYONE could do a better job than Davis and Gary Coleman's too short for the podium... LOL :D

PS.. I *LOVE* California.. all you non-Californians can laugh at us all you want, but it's things like this that make California such a wondeful diverse place, never a dull moment!

I used to be in W. LA and am now up north. I've seen Arnold in his Hummer so I've seen what there is to see.

Personally, I think much of Californias woes are not Gray Davis' fault. Enron/ Cheney seem to have been all but forgotten here. I'm not saying Davis is a saint but I think there has been much manipulation.

I disagree with the recall altogether. And, even if the recall were necessary, the person to take over should be the Lt Gov. I mean, if Gov Davis were hit by a car tomorrow who would replace him? THE LT GOV!

This sets a terrible precident. Whats to stop a recall every election? This was all sour grapes on the part of Issa and capitalized on by the republicans (thanks for finacing this bud, please step aside for Arnold.. boo hoo).

And if you disagree thats cool. I'm a 6th generation Californian and laid back enough to take it.

Gary used to hang down at an arcade at the Redondo Pier. Rumor was he owned it. I never met him but people I know that did claimed he's a real jerk.

Until a few days ago, now I'm in Sacramento. I never knew there were so many of us there.

So as far as voting...I hate the whole god-foresaken-thing.
For those of you who don't know how a recall works:
Pretty simple.
Davis must get 50 percent of the votes, plus 1 to stay in office.
So if he get's 49 percent and the other canidates SPLIT the other 51 percent....(let's say Gary Colemen get's the highest percentage of votes among that 51 percent, Like he gets 30%, Arnie get's 20% and Flynt get's 1%)
Even though Davis got 49% of the vote....he still get's recalled.
Don't get me wrong...I'm no Davis supporter...but thew whole thing is Halabaloo.

Someone send a savior to California...we need it.

Here's some more important things.

You CAN vote NO for the recall and STILL pick an alternate just in case.

You CAN Abstain and pick an alternate

The first one is most important. If you want to vote NO you should still pic your person just in case.

Since I believe this is all garbage and a drain on Californias already stretched resources, I will pick Cruise Bustamante (sp?) the Lt Gov.

I believe that if it is a majority yes the replacement should be the Lt Gov and not another open election.
