Well, prok does have you all beat in the conviction department. His unswerving ideas and perspectives -- while tired -- are contrary to the norm, which for some is a nice change of pace.

Certainly I am sick to death of the metaverse fetish many people share -- but I don't write about it or make a political stance on it. Which I think is the real reason to be frustrated with people like Prok. I'd rather not insult one's intelligence or capabilities if at all possible.

So let's not cast stones and fuel the fire in this hideous absolute conundrum of "us or them."

It is unbecoming to sink one's nobility in a dispute of character. The best way to maintain strength in character is to not become involved with pettiness. Don't argue and there is no argument so to speak.

Yes.. I am in a pensive mood. Digest with salt.

Cubey is right about this. He violates every thing that is holy about proper diction.

He would make a great moody thesaurus though!

I see my efforts at being nice for a change have met an icy response. It is back to bitch, for me! :p

Hiro - whay are you concerned enough about his little (ok, not so little, he's prolific if nothing else) tirade to post here about it, anyway?

Concerned? Hell no! I, for one, am very flattered!

I would encourage people *not* to badmouth Prok in this forum. I posted this because I think the article is funny and it promotes the SL Community Convention.

It's also not cool to badmouth someone in a forum where they don't have a chance to respond. ... Now, I realize very well that my post was drawing attention to the post, but honestly, people would have seen it anyway and I wanted to come out and give a positive response to this immediately. I'm glad Prok has finally figured out that a blog is a proper place to rant off opinions.

I wasn't sure whose blog that was until I saw the word "pernicious" in one of the first sentences. At that point I hit the back button :p

He is not someone, he is comrade Prokofy! ..and thank God (Lindens) he can not respond! Imagine if he could!

I wonder which one of his disciples will make the "Passion of Prokofy" soon ;)

It is certainly scary. I'm still afraid that I'm going to wake up one morning, and discover that they've all donned the purple shrouds, Nike running shoes, and quaffed the killer kool-aid.

Wait... did I say afraid?

[sarcasm]Yeah, you're right Coco. He was just way too smart and insightful for us.[/sarcasm] For someone who complains endlessly about people being rude and insulting on the forums it's amazing how he somehow gets a free pass from you. He could out-rude all of us combined.

No, I'd say they handled it pretty well. The swearing and personal attacks had to stop.

Yeah, I agree with hiro.

It's a shame, really, that he could make his points without personalizing everything.

But, you know, a lot of people still personalize a lot of stuff in here and I don't see them banned.

Ah well, what can you do.

He is gone because he repeatedly broke the forum rules as well as made near constant personal attacks on individuals and groups. Come on Coco..you are more in touch with reality than that I thought.

Personally..I thought he had every right to post anything he wanted on the forums, but I'm all for freedoms of expression.

This article he wrote is a bit whacko tho. Snowcrash is a sucky book in my opinion, but why get so worked up over it. It's just a little book about virtual reality. And why is Prok obsessed with who holds the power in SL? There is no real power in SL. It's just a speck on the internet map. It is unique and fun, but what power does it hold? Prok proves himself/herself once again to be just a fanatical peronality that needs an "enemy" to feed his/her self-worth. He/she is insecure and shows it more with each soapbox appeatance. But, as I said before...freedom of speech, which of course holds pleasures and penalties. He can't have the pluses without the minuses and I think Prok is an adult and had better learn how to deal effectively with both.

Not a single person has held power over me since I entered SL, other than the Lindens. And they have every right to. Prok really does need to fight the good fight against real enemies that do real bad things in a real setting. He/she is wasting so many typed words.

And as far as writing skills go, I think most would agree that he/she rambles on far too long, much like myself, to hold the readers attention. The first and foremost skill of writing is to hook your audience and keep them on focused and flowing with you. Prok has failed to do that on almost every occasion, other than slinging out insults and riling up the crowd, which is cheap and taudry at best.

Actually, you'll want to check the forum TOS.

From: someone

Also, threads that are addressed to a single individual or group are inappropriate on the forums, this includes slander or "naming names" in a posts title, starting polls about a particular resident or group, etc.

Outright character assassination, right down to making what he thinks are oh-so-clever little jokes out of people's names. I can't express how utterly childish I find it. They weren't "responses". They were obsessive, messianic crusades. Even Prok knew he wasn't "responding", he just called it "reporting"; remember?.

People are giving him credit for writing style? What ever happened to content? The masturbation references alone confound the senses. Not to mention, it's jam packed with stereotypes. That blog entry reads like a person come nearly unhinged - that which I read - after a few paragraphs, I had to stop. No thanks. Heard it ALL before.

Yes, he was broadly offensive. It's a line and he crossed it.

Frankly, I hated the book too and I'm a voracious sci fi reader. Stuff about the Metaverse was interesting .. everything else was just dribble.

From: someone

And why is Prok obsessed with who holds the power in SL? There is no real power in SL.

SL is a microcosm of the real world. Much like we investigate economic principles, real estate, retailing .. why not investigate power? It's only natural. And, quite frankly, it's quite fascinating. Obviously none of us are in a position to investigate the nature of power in the real world.

I think he's pretty good, but he really obsesses over the interpersonal stuff, which boggles me. But, then, so does everyone around here ..

Power is a subtle thing. Especially so in a virtual world. Simply having more influence as to how a particular feature is developed could be considered power. In the real world, that would be a law.

Heh heh. Yeah, but he gets some good zingers in there. But, yeah, executive summaries would be a plus.

And he still attacks people, obsessively - in his blog and on the SLH. It almost rises to the level of creepy the fixation he has on certain people.

No, gone because they couldn't follow the forum guidlines or the rules layed down by the moderators...

Now maybe you were reading a totally DIFFERENT Second Life forum, I dunno.. but they went through the same process anyone else would.. warnings, more warnings, bans, more warnings, and finally the boot.

And why? Because they came back and did the same thing over and over and over again..

If I'm driving down the freeway over the speed limit and get a warning, its because I was speeding... I can say 'but officer... that other car was speeding too!' but that doesn't make it that guys fault that I got a warning..

Now I don't know about you.. but I'd count my lucky stars and start watching my speed on the road..

What I *WOULDN'T* do id go even faster - just to show those damn cops who's boss.
I wouldn't blame others if I got another ticket,
Nor speed on my way to my court hearing on the matter - and tell the judge how he's part of a conspiracy of known speeders who have his ear and are on his favorites list.
I also wouldn't speed again after I lost my licence...
Nor scream to the cold unfair winds when my car was impounded.

Prok has one person to blame for their position.... and that would be Prok.

And thats all she wrote.

Siggy.
