For those who believe in the supernatural (the rest of you can sit this one out )… Do you believe the supernatural can exist inside of Second Life? Some examples: Could a sim ever be haunted by ghosts (And I am not talking about SL rendering bugs). Could someone’s build be haunted?
If you believe that Ouija Boards work, could they work in Second Life?
Would an in-game séance ever work? I would love to hear your opinions.

My account is jinxed. Does that count?
Oh. And things mysteriously disappear from my inventory. But I think thats the asshat server, not poltergeists.

That's why we need full XML-RPC support! Though the "waiting for a response from Google" might give the impression a Ouija board was faking it...

I would imagine it possible, a old ass NES system was reported on HERE so I cant say it be impossible for an uber ass server to get the same thing.. *edit* some kind of human contact is need I believe for a sieance (er sp?) to work, but hell I'll give it a go......

I don't beleive it would work. A) you have to be touching a ouija board, and technically, you wouldn't be in SL B) seances - hmmm, I don't see this working within a 3D environment either. As for haunted builds, the builds are merely pixels, as far as I am aware apart from the whole OMGWTFLOLOL!1111 MY NES IS HAUNTED, I have never heard of it. I would be SO up for tesing out that theory though Aimee. I am incredibly interested in all aspects of the Supernatural

From: Chip Midnight Nah, it's more entertaining to roll my eyes at you HAHA. Ya, I know the vast majority of SLers don't believe in any sort of spirituality at all. That's why I made that comment, to avoid a bunch of posts that consist of "nope" "no" "no way" "this is lame" "uh uh". If you don't believe in ANY spirituality, consider your opinion on this subject already well represented. This thread is about IF it exists, CAN it exist in SL.

Funny, I bought a Ouji board with the planchette last night from Saul Clemens (seriously), it was really awesome looking. And a book of magic. And then... Reports of strange shadowy figures begin to appear in the Welcome Area.

Hmmm.. if you died would you come back to haunt your virtual home? If you had a lifetime account with SL perhaps you could. This is sort of a macabre question but, what happens to land and builds that charter members own who pass away?

Spoilsport. I'd have to say yes, it would be possible, because if the answer is no, that's like saying that elephants sing show tunes when no one can hear them, but never anything by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Okay, I'll shut up now, hehe.

I have a follow-up question (and IF you don't believe in angels, then you can just sit this one out): How many angels do you think could fit on top of a default box in Second Life (assuming they are all standing up with arms at their sides)? Serious replies only, please.

I know there are all kinds of naysayers on the supernatural - I don't feel the need to convince anyone - you don't have to believe in something for it to still be true. I know what I have experienced in my life so far, and I am not particularly spiritual or religious at all, yet I still believe in the supernatural based on experience.
It is a really interesting question, Aimee. Although I didn't see the movie, wasn't something similar in concept the basis for the movie Fear.com? Ghosts in cyberspace is an intriguing thought. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Great, now you have just spooked me out - I won't be able to work alone in Mavericks anymore.

From: Cristiano Midnight I am not particularly spiritual or religious at all, yet I still believe in the supernatural based on experience. Likewise. I'm an atheist. Or agnostic at best (gotta keep that open mind in case someone comes to you one day and says 'Kris, this is God - God, meet Kris'). But then whilst I believe in certain supernatural phenomenon, I don't view them in a religious/spiritual context.

Well, I have an Oracle in north western Green but he hasn't predicted anything... Although I'm not a big believer in supernatural things, I do find this an interesting concept. What if you made plans to meet an online friend in RL and discovered they'd been dead for years? What if one of your online pals was actually an alien or a monster who used SL to interact with humans without being discovered (or persecuted?) Ironically, while I was exploring a SL Graveyard recently a glitch made my avitar look hidious. At least I think it was a glitch. It got my imagination going. What if your avitar could be possesed? Or what if you could be possessed and the whateveritis that possessed you would appear in place of your avatar...?

On a more serious note, I'm torn on the theory (I believe in some elements of the supernatural, though not all)... If we buy the theory that a ghost is some sort of imprint or echo... I dunno. The internet isn't a place, and it's not a physical thing (The two things hauntings are most commonly attributed to). I don't see that a person can be 'tied' to the internet in the same way as, say, a bedroom. As well, I think even if it could happen, too much about computers is abstract - A ghost in a system (Using ghost literaly here) would be more likley to cause random crashes and glitches, not manifest as a whole entity, in my opinion.
On the other hand, I'm one of those people who's reality begins when he logs into the internet, basicly... Or at least onto a computer. I don't have any 'tie' to a place or thing that could even come close to equalying my 'tie' to the electronic world. So if I were to come back as a haunting spirit, I can't think of anything else I WOULD be stuck to.

From: Olympia Rebus What if one of your online pals was actually an alien or a monster who used SL to interact with humans without being discovered (or persecuted?) I already admitted to being an alien irl a year or so ago. No one was in the least bit phased, fortunately. Reactions were basically:'LOL!'/'kewl'/'that explains a lot, Kris'.
