With prop 89 we will end the need for central teleport hubs. Have you ever been annoyed when you teleported to an event and found it was exactly 999 meters from the teleport hub? well this feature will allow you to port to with-in 1 meter of your desired destination.
remember... Vote 89
Thank you

Wheras I can understand people wanting this I don't like this idea. I would never have found so many interesting and cool places if I could have teleported point to point. The telehubs as they are give you the opportunitty to see new things on your way to a destination. I know some telehubs are far away from some points but seriously how long does it take to fly 1000 or even 3000 meters...not long. Its like the old story of the train ride...you get on the train anticipating the next stop...then the next stop ...then the next...then anticipating the destination. Just like in real life we cant wait to play with the big kids...we cant wait to get our drivers license...we cant wait to turn 18...we can't wait to turn 21...get married..have children.... rushing into the 21st century everyone has to be faster and do faster and it shows in everything we do from work to gaming. Don't worry about the stops...look out the window and enjoy the ride

Some people buy land 888 meters from a telehub in order to avoid all the Malls and Clubs that surround them. Without telehubs SL would see Malls and Clubs all over what are now mostly residential areas far from the telehubs.
I for one will not be voting on the above.

Quite a long time if you are trying to get to an event on time.

Almost every other structure in SL is dedicated to selling shit. Most of them are "malls", or, humorously, "mini" malls, which are decidedly not mini, unless you were Michelin Man or Godzilla. If you remove the sense of distance, you destroy two things: 1) Remoteness of space... some folks LIKe being 20 minutes away. 2) Concept of distance ... if you can go everywhere, anywhere, for fee, what's the point of flying, vehicles, exploring, finding new stuff, and everything else associated with such? Sure, SOME people will do it anyways, but a little forced exploration never hurt anyone. Lf

Yeah, I sort of agree - I do NOT want people being able to port directly to me without asking first.
What I would like to see is an option for the land owner to allow people to port directly to the set landing point of any given plot. Then when you click on the map, you're taken to the nearest point. This feature should be limited to certain sims so that people who want to be remotely located still can be.
Regards,
-Flip

Get rid of that, unless LL is going to buy me a ethernet connection to my ISP the lag drives me crazy. I just stand still and script else, I snap, lose it. Everytime I rez at a telehub, I fly up for 20 seconds, not because I don't want to see the stinky malls, I don't see the supid stinky malls for 2 minutes anyways because the udp's take so long. I have to fly up because everyone builds so high that I get stuck on invisible walls only the server can see unless I stand around for a long time waiting for things to load. I voted for this feature.

Personally, when I'm in a hurry I use a jetpack. Faster than regular flying and easier to conroll than a vehicle.

I voted for this feature. Yeah, I agree with Jack and Magnum on this. My game time is limited by my RL schedule; I don't have time to spend flying all over tarnation trying to get to my intended destination whilst smacking into huge, telehub-blocking builds in the process. For the sake of ease of use, I want point-to-point teleporting. (And, as I've mentioned in another thread on this subject, I own land within 96m of three different telehubs, so, economically speaking, I actually have a stake in keeping telehubs around... but I just hate them so, and think them a failed experiment.)

Wait, there is already a Proposition 32 that proposes this same idea, and it has more votes than Magnum's Prop 89... maybe we should not split votes and try to keep everybody on the same page who wants to support this issue.
Edit: Which raises the question, will Lindens combine votes from two identical or highly similar propositions?

Sorry, but in my opinion, Point to Point teleporting is extremely short sighted.
Telehubs = Passive Zoning.
If you introduce point to point teleporting, I'll just move my club right next to your quiet residential home - since I can get the land there at $3/sqm instead of $15. There will be no incentive anymore for me to pay a premium to be closer to a telehub.
Remember - commercial 'hotspots' naturally occur anywhere there's an egress point of any kind - its not just limited to telehubs. Decentralize the hotspots - and commercial enterprises will scatter.
I empathisize completely with folks who don't want a laggy club or mall in their backyard. Right now, telehub zones are commercial centers, and I choose to do buisness there because a) its better for my buisness and b) its better for the residential community for me to stay away from them. If you take that away, not only will it impact my buisness.... but in time, you'll see everything decentralize - and you can bet people will be complaining about that.
The system is imperfect, of course.... but we'll be going in the wrong direction if you introduce point-to-point TP. Unfortunately, I think those of you who disagree with me will only see what I'm talking about after its too late.
A better compromise is to introduce extra teleport options, such as being able to directly teleport to any spot you're a group officer of, or land that you own. That would at least keep the central egress points intact.

Don't think so

From: Kris Ritter LOL! you should get out more SL pretty much is one big mall. hmmm wonder who really needs to get out more. IF you got out more you'd see the non-mall places people want to preserve. I'm not voting on this prop. I am however putting my 10 votes on... Prop. 41 (4 votes) ability to use arrays in LSL. Prop. 69 (2 votes) Allow storing data in notecards in the scripted object. Prop. 73 (1 vote) ... (my prop btw) Improved control of "Busy" or conference IM's Prop. 33, 4, and 99 (1 vote) Try before buy, Havok 2, and off-world IM's

I like the idea. With the present system I don't get to see a lot of SL. I get the the nearest teleport hub and then have to fly across several sims and of course have to relog due to the sim crossing bug. I eventually give up. For events, I just ask for a TP to the event.
Of course if the nearest teleport hub to the location I am interested in has a roof, I have to hang around the hub until it finally rezzes enough for me to get out. And this further dealys my trip. Nothing around the hubs except lots of stores... Hmmm... do the Lindens get a kickback for putting roofs on hubs?

I would have been much happier with being able to set multiple Home locations on Av owned or Group owned land, and point-to-point porting between them. Alternately, being able to only directly port to locations we have landmarks for.
People are going to miss out on a lot of great content if they're just porting from one shoe store to the next, and it's going to ruffle the feathers of a lot of people who paid extra to be near a telehub, which will then be rendered virtually useless.

He also wants this to replace the glitch/hack etc sit port where if you click on something through a wall and select sit you will be able to get in. My Prop 89 allows you to double click on the map and be teleported to with-in 1 meter of where you clicked.

What ruffles peoples feathers more is trying to cross laggy sim lines, crashing then in 30 minutes finally crossing the 999 meter distance, after having loged 5 times. Other people have busy schedules and cannot afford to take 4 minutes (If their ISP connection is good) to fly 999 meters to an event.

telehubs help zone the land for commercial and residential use. it would be lag hell with clubs and malls in every sim! VOTE NO!

I'm with mags on this one. *I* want to decide when it's time to explore vs. when it's time to get to my destination. And until the Second Life fixes the buggy sim border crossing, they shouldn't FORCE it upon us whenever we need to fly to our destinations.
I also agree with Flipper's land options to limit direct TP.

Prop 106 - Multiple Home locations

This proposal has just been added this afternoon. Perhaps it's an acceptable compromise for the opposing factions in the telehub/teleport anywhere debate.
