Why aren't you using refer-a-friend in all your email signatures?

I think there are multiple reasons why people don't do more word of mouth:

1. It crashes a lot
2. It's unlikely people you suggest it to are going to be able to use it
3. There's a lot of porn in sl.. don't want people to think you're associated with that crap
4. The name "secondlife" itself does not make you look cool.
5. SecondLife itself is a bit of a 'loner' place.

I have advocated SL to a few people, almost to the point of alienating them I think. I've always been an evangealist.

I find it interesting what keeps other people from doing the same.

"User-created content takes the idea of leveraging player opinions a step further by allowing them to effectively prototype new ideas and features. Developers can then measure which new concepts most improve the products and incorporate them into the game in future patches."

first of all, i don't really use email anymore except for when i'm registering something.

secondly, i have a group AND profile on MySpace to meet part of these ends.

and yeah, be careful if you want to preach to another choir. i mentioned SL to the forums at Worth1000 and got lambasted for advertising something for personal gain.. due to the fact that my link was a referral.

i changed it and apologized for being "noobish" on their forums.. still wasn't very well received.

one of my best tactics is to just start looking at the site, pics, going in-world... usually someone will ask what's it all about.

just strike up a conversation with someone who strikes as you as being a potential SLer. someone who would appreciate and contribute to SL.

on the other hand, if you personally want to send it out as a tagline to your emails.. so be it. i have no inclination against it per se, it just isn't my style.
