There's much ado here about very little. But the mere existence of this thread, of course, demonstrates the sometimes-perverse interest humans will always have in the sexual.

Maybe the most important question -- How many of you have been 'assaulted' (for want of a better word) by escort advertisements when you tried to avoid them by remaining in PG areas?

The issue here is not whether escorts should be in SL or not. They are, and they are a major part of the SL economy, like it or not. They're not going to go away. This has become an international game. Expect vastly different life values as a part of that territory.

The issue, rather, is personal responsibility. The same logic that enables me to tell the cheating husband that it's HIS responsibility to be faithful also allows me to tell the Puritans that, if you don't like the escort biz, avoid bars that advertise it. It's not their job to avoid you.

Not sure what you're getting at, Winter (and never say "pole" around a dancer... it's "poll". The professional escorts I'm acquainted with never let emotions interfere. Emotions may happen on the side of the client, but we're back to that personal responsibility thing. If you (a guy, usually) visit the same escort often and begin to have 'feelings' for her blonde, big-boobed, tanned avatar, it just might be time to take that walk in the fresh air and let Mr. Happy think things over.

I would argue that they haven't caused any. As pointed out earlier in the thread, it is not McDonald's Job to tell you that your too fat to order their food. Just like it's not an escorts job to make sure his / her client is single and to tell his / her client that cheating is wrong.

So, it's not the number of divorces and breakups that the escort caused, it's the number of divorces and break-ups that the cheating bastards who hired them have caused.

Besides, Chip is right, at most the RL equivalent is Phone Sex, not Prostitution. Technically, it is covered by Free Speech since it causes noone else harm, as long as it is done in a Mature Sim, and as such, is a constitutional right. Since we also fall under the TOS, it has to be done in a Mature Sim, and probably (Preferrably) in private.

So, to all those who are freaking out, lets say LL does ban it. Then, effectively, LL has to enforce it. If LL can enforce it, the only means of enforcing it is to record & review IM's, whispers, and chats. If that occurs then nothing you say / do is private. Lets take this a step further. Lets say, since effectively, LL is now monitoring and reviewing your chats, and they have already infringed on your right to free speech (See the Previous Paragraph), they say, "Okay, noone is allowed to express anti-bush political view points." or "Noone is allowed to discuss abortion within Second Life.", or "Noone is allowed to discuss the policies set by LL within Second Life."

The facts are:
1. It is not Prostitution as prostitution involves physical sexual acts for money and last time I checked no real sexual acts are occuring
2. It is a form of Speech.
3. It does not hurt anyone.

Therefore, it is constitutionally protected. Now, we also have to follow the guidelines of the Terms of Service, which also state that:
1. It must be done in a Mature Sim.
2. It must be done in Private.

I am fine with Escorts in SL. Others here have already stated very well the reasons I think it is fine. And while not all Escorts are prostitutes, I do also agree that prostitution should be leagalized everywhere in RL as well.
