I finally got around to checking out this thread...

WOW!

Nice work.

As for the reflections, that's a pretty trick slick.
I'm still kicking myself for not inventing this on my own! :D

Wow! Now that is truly impressive.

I assume that the reflections are created with semitransparent ground and inverted objects under the road? But what about the rain. Wow.

~Ulrika~

i think it's semi transparent "reflection" textures overlayed on the ground. regardless, i hope we'll be seeing what ingenuity jimmy came up with this time shortly.

It's a combination of building and texturing. It really does have a whole inverted build underneath. Just alt zoom and orbit.
But also, the ground textures are not transparent throughout the entire texture. They have spots of transparency and opaqueness to mimic puddles of water, I think.
I am a jaded old timer who never lets anything get to him. Hardly anything impresses me.
But Jimmy is a freaking genius. I even built him a fancy black and golden trophy - he is now the third person in SL to ever have received an Eggy award.

I had a rare opportunity to take a peek at Chinatown today, and I just have to say it is AMAZING! No other words can explain this project. Keep up the quality work.

i've seen several pics of Chinatown and i must say, i'm thoroughly impressed. every element that could be described comes down to what the collective of SLers are saying, "WOW!"

besides the magnificient building talents, the reflections.. my goodness, the reflections! what an amazing accomplishment!

i can't wait to visit!

my simple response: /bow

once i get Erga Obinex and Erga Arcinex HQ's built, i would like to feature it in my gallery of accomplishments. this is a serious jump ahead for SL!

one more question: will this be shown at the GDC conference? because it better be!!!

All I can says is wow!

Foxy was kind enough to give me a tour, and I'm completely blown away. From live reflection simulations to mist effects, to incredibly well modeled cars, to beautifully painted textures, even back alleys with trash cans and dumpsters, the attention to detail is astounding. China town looks as good if not better than many first person shooters.

I must say I've been in SL for over a year now, and this is the first build that has humbled me. It's truly an inspiration.
