I'm on Cox now, besides the occasional outage (storms, etc) it's been VERY good. Not to mention the fact we have 6 cable boxes beyond the cable modem on this one line. Usally when I check I get somewhere between 3 and 5 mbs. I will admit their customer service can be tricky until you learn their tricks. But hey, anything is better then our old Media General cable ROFL.

We use SBC. I had them when they were still Ameritech. Excellent tech support. People who know what they are talking about and not reading a script. We had comcast the service was awful. I used to work as tech support for a isp. I don't need a install cd or hand holding. Just give me the numbers to plug into my ip stack. SBC no problem here is the info. Comcast
"duh it's not on the script" Verizon just can't bring myself to use them. GTE by any other name still sucks just the same. Suffered many years under GTE for telephone serice and as the old saying goes "fool me once shame on you. fool me twice shame on me" The first thing I want if I win the lotto is my t-1:) One other thing SBC tech support dosn't have a fit if you say Linux to them. Comcast "omg your not using windows"

I'll be honest. I am serving as DSL tech for Verievil. It is an incredible pain for me as I try to uphold a high level of service when alot of the other techs need to be gas-chambered. I've lately been cleaning up messes made by other techs and by people from OTHER FREAKING SERVICE DEPARTMENTS.

If I wasn't on thin ice for my attendence I'd be trying harder to correct all the problesm tech support itself has because of Verizon's apparent lack of decent contractors.

I'm on Time Warner. AFIK I don't have much choice around here, aside from WOW which costs quite a bit more for similar bandwidth. Anything involving a phone line would be more expensive; I would have to get a landline installed.

You forogt some are on dial up. I heard a group of dial up users built a city on that blue planet next to Second Life... Think its called Second Life 2: War Of Primitives.

Of course its just a rumor...

The company I get my service from isn't an option, so I'll say it's BT. But the service is ADSL, and it's at 512kbps down, 256kbps up.

Comcast has our area wrapped up tight - no choice in the matter unless I move.

It's pretty stable. We get about 3.3 mbps on average. It used to be slower - they have upgraded a couple of times, which was quite welcome here as my roomie and I are power users.

As far as tech support and customer service goes, we haven't had to use it since Comcast bought MediaOne out in this area.

MediaOne's tech support was horrid. We were constantly losing connection, and they kept blaming us and our multiple TiVos, TV's, Linux boxes, and ten or so PCs... :p Once Comcast took over, we had them come out and the first tech they sent found an issue in the cable box itself, outside by the street. It has pretty much been flawless since.

My roomie runs a huge network at work for a living, and I am no slouch at networking/routers/switches/modems myself, so we never really need tech support unless something goes haywire outside the house.

All in all, I am pretty satisfied with our current set up - it's a far cry from the days I was playing Ultima Online on dial-up, and even from when we were on one-way cable with Roadrunner.

Proxad (Free Telecom) DSL. Basically the most bandwidth for the buck in this country (up to 20 Mbps and even beyond in some cases), and no support at all.

I voted Comcast, but then realized I meant Cablevision (aka Optimum Online).

I used to have Comcast in my prior apartment. They never re-balanced the area over time, so it got slower and slower.

Here, they re-balance on regular basis, and it tends to get faster each major one. I've never had any huge support issues, most of the problems these days stem from the apartment wiring and the need for very high quality connections (I use for remote work as well).

Oh, and their L2 phone techs are really cool, at least when I identify my own profession as a SysAdmin. :)

Speed? Here is 500kbps average day from a nice site like sunsolve. No clue what upload is, I don't think I've ever hit it.

[EDIT] Oh, yes, it's also *way* faster than work T1s, even at night. Go figure.

UK user...

Zen 2Mb ADSL (2mb down/256k up), got a 2Mb SDSL 2mb/2mb for business use as well *yesterday* and honestly I can't tell the difference in SL. Though file uploads at 8x the speed I'm used to are nice!

Was, until recently, with Pipex who's service has declined to the extent where what was the best is now (2 1/2 years on) one of the worst...

I'm on SBC DSL but because I'm 3 miles from the CO I can only get 384kbs :( I also work for SBC and maitain there DSL, Fiber and Switch equipment and if my DSL breaks i'll probably fix it myself unless it's between the CO and my house (outside plant).

I'm on SBC, too, mostly because the local cable company won't run lines out here. x.x; I've been able to hit download speeds of around 700-some kbps, but for some reason my downloads usually seem capped to around 160-some kbps. >.< When playing SL, I have issues with my bandwidth for the game dropping to zero, though everything else connected runs well. Resetting my computer connection usually helps, but it's frustrating. Otherwise, it's a dman sight better than dial-up. ^.^

You obviously haven't had your coffee when you posted this, else you would have dropped the esoteric flavors and included Sprint and AT&T (Earthlink and hmm... can't remember who AT&T is farming out to these days). Anyway -- 3.0 downstream and can't remember the upstream.

I'm with PlusNet on a BT line.

That probably means as much to you as your options did to me. :)
