Now that the tone of this thread has died down a bit, I would like to direct the SL community to the in-game "Edit" pull down menu, and the "Preferences" selection. Under audio options, there are sliders for distance and doppler effects. If I'm not wrong (and I really could be wrong), playing with these settings should tune down noisy neighbors without turning down sounds on your lot. Again, I haven't tested these sliders. I just haven't run into a practical SL situation to try them.

I used to live by the drag strip. And the sound files of the cars kept playing over and over again. It was kind of annoying but all I had to do was turn my sound off. It really didn't bother me. They were having an event and I was fine with that. I was able to build just fine with no sound, and lucky for me all the chat is in text.

OK, although I don't get along with you and totally disagree with you about the flag issue, (Because your wrong about it, you are accepting an ignorant ill informed posistion about the Confederate Naval Jack)

I have absolutely nothing against your sexual orientation or against any gay and lesbian people period, what I don't respect is someone who thinks they have to wear their sexual preference as an arm band and constantly search for conflict about it with people where there isn't conflict. What is even far worse is someone who plays the "Anti Gay" card as a weapon to discredit someone..

Yes, it is true, Goeth has gotten in trouble in this game before for his behavior. And I have been guilty of the same kind of things, Behavior which included using profanity in a PG area, he has got introuble for pulling practical jokes, BUT stop right now from trying to make a accusation to cover up your own behavior last night..

Goeth was not the one who pursued you last night, Goeth has been on his best behavior since coming back from his suspention...He has gone out of his way to avoid any conflicts, has tried to make new friends in the game and has apologized to others who he has rubbed the wrong way prior to his being banned last week.. I know this and commend him for his effort he has made, and anyone who has played with him in since he has been back can attest to this..

Last night YOU pursued Goeth, Goeth was on one of the balloons in Welsh, and I came over and used the "Waassap Gesture sounds" to greet him, you came over to him, assumed it HAD TO BE HIM! and stood there and called him a "FREAK" Goeth and me took screenshots and saved the chats and Goeth told YOU! he was going to make a complaint because you have been following him around trying to provoke him and THAT is why you came on here today and came up with this OUTRIGHT LIE to cover your own disruptive behavior..

He never made any comment about your orientation, not last night, not ever, he could care less about who you sleep with, BUT THAT'S NOT WHY your saying this is it,,,Your trying to discredit him by lying about it..

For the rest of you, I don't stand here and try to act like I didn't say of do things that have disturbed some of you, I don't stand here and act like I never acted like an outright ass, but one thing I won't do is stand here and lie about it.. Last night Thai Greenacre went after someone she does not like and who she thinks is an easy target because of his past, it would be easy to believe her, but I tell you that is NOT what happend last night, and Thai should be ashamed of herself..

As a follow up to that.. ya, Thai lied about some of the stuff in his first post also.. I think he reworded things to make himself sound Righteous.

But hey to the Lindens if you are reading this.. wouldnt it be a good idea to add a feature that turns off the gesture sounds for the specific users.. So I can still use mine, and He/she cant hear them at all no matter how much I want Him/Her to?

i sat on top of roos roof many times just to look around AND EVERY SINGLE TIME i look towards your house i see you staring at us from your balcony...your exactly like my nosey neighbor in real life, she has the phone ready to call the cops on me or have my dog taken away for any little thing i do. i cant even fart in my own house without her coming over to tell me to keep quiet or run my car in the morning to warm it up

The community in SL needs to realize that there are going to be alot worse people coming to play this game when it goes live.

That's the point, nobody has been doing anything to her, the people around Roo's have avoided her like the plague.. But that's not good enough for her....She had to make things up...

I did not lie. I have many falts lads, dihonesty has never been one of them.I did not follow Goeth. Roo was at Crimsons, he, and Sia both asked me to come over there. They wanted to show me a new security system. Each time I tried to go there, Goeth showed up and started to play wavs again.
I do not stand on my balcony and stare at you. My video is set at 64 to make the game work faster. I cannot see Roos land from my balcony I can just hear it.
As far as turning down my sound to play the game I have spent hours and a ton of Linden buck , making music files for myself. I like to play them while I am building. I love music but can never here mine because of those wavs.
If I am so in the wrong then why has Roo come to me and said he does not agree with what you are doing and that although he tries to get away from you lot, you still follow him and embarrass him.
I solved the problem for you though I moved. It is funny however, you just keep getting away with it.

Good god people! This is something the Lindens need to handle in the programming. Also im not sure of this but if you ignored the people playing the offensive sounds, you wouldn't have to listen to them!

Having a neigbor who always complains is SOOO much worse than having a noisy neighbor! I can always turn the volume down, but if my neigbors always in my face, calling the Lindens etc, it would really annoy me! If my freedom was restricted by them, i would leave the game.

Second i read a thing about you not liking the confederate flag. Anyone should be able to fly any flag they want in this game! Freedom of speech is one of the foundations of America, even if it is hate speech. We can all recall the many times local groups had tried to supress hate groups like the KKK from having marches or public rallies, only to be overturned by the supreme courts. A few times the National Guard was called in to protect the KKK marchers.

I personally find there speech very offensive, but they have every right to free speech, and i believe that is one of our most important liberties.

Their speech/representation is allowed IRL without censorship, so i'd say it should be allowed in the game. If you have a problem with it, fly your own flag to show your against it.

So, let's make this simple. We shall turn this thread into a very (not so simple) feature request.

Would it be possible for you to pretty please put in a "deaf" or "ignore" system, which will ignore shouts, says, whispers, and sounds from any person, or object owned by said person, who is on your ignore list. I'll be perfectly honest, I turn my speakers on in SL maybe 1 second of every 24 hours worth of gameplay because of how much sounds are abused. I have a very very loud sound system attached to my computer, and quite frankly were I to have it on, people would hear constant profanities and other odd noises echoing through about a 1/2 mile radius. A coded-in client ignore system would be absolutely wonderful, that way instead of arguing (which people will still do anyhow), we can have a policy of "Don't like it? /ignore them". This is something that has arisen in almost every online game/communicatino system in history. I think it's only a matter of time in SL.

Yep, that's right we were having fun playing around shooting each other with guns that cause no damage, we were also standing around all looking at pictures of each other from real life and this was NO WHERE NEAR YOUR PROPERTY! It was on the other side of Roo's house, that happens to face your stupid house..There was about 10 of us out there and Goeth said let's go to the other side of Roo's house because you showed up... THAT'S RIGHT GOETH! I would have stayed right where I was because I am not going to let you dictate to me where I can and cannot go, just because you don't like me or what I am doing, and I could care less about YOUR hang up's on your sexuality and your incessant need to remind us all in every post you make..

You don't know me, you don't know what my race is, what my feelings are on your "Orientation", and to call me a bigot goes over the line.

I think in general I strongly empathize with Thai here, not from experiences in SL, but in FL. With that said, I think the issue from the point of view of getting along is not so much whether what happened here happened at all, but rather how persistent it is. In FL I have a neighbor who from time to time when the weather is nice, will blast his boombox with music that goes right through me (I am 51 for those who think it relevant). The point is he only does it for a few hours maybe 4 or 5 times a year. I don't like it but I can live with it because it seems to be a special event rather than a persistent one.

I can't be sure, but I get the impression from what has been said that the same is the case here. If it is the case, than Thai, you have my sympathy, but I think it is something you have to live with, if it is a persistent case, than I think it may bring up the need for some kind of mechanism that residents of an area may be able to have input as to whether their area will accept that activity or not, and if not, maybe area residents could decide who is the more responsibile party to resolve the issue, because a resolution is clearly from a technical point of view possible.

I believe part of the problem is that we come to a world like this precisely to get a way from the limitations of FL. But to the degree we try and duplicate our FL desires here (Peace/Party) we will inherently run into the limitations of FL, making some of the dreaded FL mechanism of problem resolution a necessity.

I understand neither party will be happy with this perspective, but it is the one I bring to SL. For me this is not so much an escape, but an enhancement to FL, and the day that isn't true is the day I check out.
