Why do we feed the troll in the abortion thread?

I mean, he's pretty well made up his mind and really he's just trolling. Why do we feed him and that other chick? Why not stop replying? I know I know.. I replied. ::hangs head: Sorry bout that. But really they'd go away if we all just shut up and ignored them no?

Yep, that's why I stopped posting and even reading. I poured my heart out about a very personal decision and still there was not even the tiniest bit of acknowledgement of any understanding.

April, your personal story might be sad. I didn't try to demean it in any way. It's just that individual stories, as touching as they may be, have no bearing on the issue overall. I could post story after story of sad stories to support my opinion, but it doesn't hold up in a debate setting. Unless the story is tied to statistics that show the story is not unusual, and that it's used to add to the statistics, it doesn't strengthen the point being made.

And maybe the question shouldn't be, "Why do people feed the troll?" Maybe the question should be, "Why does not the troll have enough pride and self-control to walk away from the feeding trough?" Being Christian and all, you should know that gluttony is one of the seven major deadlies.

April, it IS your personal story, I think, that has everything to do with the issue. To ignore it and the experiences of other women with similar stories is to demean the issue in every way.

Individual stories have every bearing on the issue. Individual stories ARE the issue. People are the issue.

They [the people who want to take away your right to make your own decision] don't post statistics when they talk about saved babies, they put the saved children on camera. Why should women who's lives who have been dramatically changed by having had a choice and having made that choice be any different?

If this issue were so easily intellectualized then there would not be so many people who think that the decision is personal and should remain with the woman who carries the child. I doubt anyone will change Kevn's opinion on the issue, but I can assure you that his dogmatic intellectualization will not change mine.

There actually was some good discussion in that thread before said troll derailed it.

As far as feeding it... well, its fun to watch a troll dance around when you poke it with logic. Especially when its only defense is playing dumb.

However, some good did come out of it. I would have never donated to NARAL if it wasn't for the troll.

Here's a free hint. People who start controversial threads are trolls. Especially if they do it again and again. They just do it to get a rise out of people, because they have no life, and being able to affect people makes then feel less insignificant for a while.
