Plus -- I like what they put out.

And it's a good thing they do. Put out.

My friend just got Nintendogs. That's so neat... although it will be a bit funny to see people yelling voice commands to their nintendogs in coffee shops.

Uuugh. I agree with Aaron, I'd be surprised if Nintendo is still even around in 3 years. I'm all for innovating, trying to do new things, I even liked the way the new gameboy had the 2nd screen and voice activation... But didn't Phillips/Magnavox try this like 6 years ago (having a "TV Remote/game controller hybrid"
with that, um, whatever it was called that really sucked... ? ![]() _____________________

It's kind of sad that no one who's posted in this thread really seems to understand what's so cool about the new controller.
Here's a hint.. It's not about what it looks like. |

Must... resist... lewd... pun... But seriously, I think that could be because the people who do get it think it's too simple to be worth describing. So here's a video to illustrate the extreme end of it's use (which I'm sure loads of people will slate anyway, but still):http://media.cube.ign.com/articles/651/651334/vids_1.html _____________________

Even that video doesn't really capture the imporant stuff about it.
The thing is a fully functional 3D space mouse... That's pretty freaking HUGE folks. This is stuff that would have cost you thousands of dollars a few years ago. And we're not talking about some crappy clone of the old power-glove. From all the reviewers who've gotten a chance to play with this thing, it supposedly works AMAZINGLY well... To the extent where it can accurately capture very tiny movements.. and you're not required to hold up your hands and point it at the screen or anything. They made a demo of Metroid Prime, and the reviewer said that after a few seconds of playing with it, it suddenly just clicked for him... and then the controls for the game became completely intuitive... Samus was just ALWAYS looking exactly where he intended her to look. This is big stuff folks... Certainly more interesting than making the same old crap, and slapping a bigger processor on it. Besides.. if you want a more conventional controller, the revolution's going to have one that you can just slide the "new" controller into. |

I really like it. It's a 3D-Space mouse with rumble-feedback. Ah Ha!! it is a remote controlled vibrator! _____________________

While the asthetics of it don't really appeal to me much, and the concept of nunchaku-linked joysticks seems somewhat unconventional, this could work out well.
One of the biggest gripes most console players have is that D-Pads and Analog Sticks can never re-create the precision that a mouse can. This 3d space mouse seems like a good answer to such, and as long as it's light enough and doesn't have to be held up high where arm fatigue will be a factor. While this controller is cool, it will probably be of no use to me. I only play consoles for martial arts fighting games, and when it comes to that genre, I need some imported arcade stick goodness. _____________________

You should see the videos from E3 that shows how this controller can be used and to me it looks very easy to use especially in first person shooter games where you control movement with the stick and shoot with the wand and in some sport games. The press conference for Nintendo stated that a Gamecube version of the controller will be out when Nintendo Wii launches so they must think its going to go over well.
Sony decided to put motion sensing technology into their PS3 controllers as well and its reported to be very very lightwieght. P.S. I know this is an old thread, but why start a new one when this one is already there. _____________________

It's the new Zelda game they're releasing for Gamecube at the Wii launch, not the controller.
The reviews of the controller from the show floor are a bit mixed at the moment, but that could just be that the sensors don't work well in the exhibition environment or they haven't finished tweaking stuff. Lets hope it's all good when it gets into people's homes. Also, they've added a speaker to the remote and motion sensors to the joystick attachment. Sony's controller is so lightweight because they've removed the vibration feature, probably due to the lawsuit. Gads, look at that, a typo in the thread title. I wonder if it's possible to edit it... And, for anyone who's interested, this is the 'classic' controller for use with downloaded games and ports an' stuff: ![]() _____________________

I wonder how long it will be before Microsoft makes a motion sensor controller for the Xbox 360?
