Hello Friends. As some of you are aware, there have been massive protests around the USA in responce to the current debate on Immigration reform.

So I wake up this morning to find out that basically the city of Dallas is shutting down this Sunday because of the expected 200,000+ people who plan to march downtown and on city hall. That means no internet for me since right now I have to come to the main library to get online. :(

Anyway, is this a national thing happening all over the country or just here in Dallas? The website www.megamarch.com appears to only be for Dallas.

Also Monday is The National Day for Action for Immigrant Justice or as some people are calling it "Without a Mexican Day" due to the fact that Mexicans are being encouraged not to go into work or go shopping and spend money.

Just curious if any SL'ers are particiapting in any of these events AND/OR if any similar events are being planned within Second Life itself. :D

Dude! If you're pimpin' in Dallas you can come hang at mi casa off of Lover's Lane. You'd even be able to *gasp* log into SL. It'd be a good excuse for me to plug up my router and put old boxen back together.

I wouldn't want to be in downtown when an upstart minority group is packing into a civic area anyway.

Yes. I'm from IRC. I'm not sure if I'm a 'good' or a 'bad' Burke. The ladies know I'm a "naughty" Burke.

I still cannot remember who the guy was on the forums who always trolled like a mofo and stuff. Was that you? LOL Anway, you know we need to get a damn Dallas Meet-Up happening. I know there is more than just you and me. FYI, right now I am staying at Live Oak and Peak but come to the downtown library to use the net. My computer is sitting in my apartment at Northwest Highway and SKillman til I can move into my own place again. Hehe. Wait you are the one who wanted people on the forums to help you get a new computer or something like that right?

Oh and back to the original topic of this thread! Anyone else have any info on that?

All I know so far is...

- A lot of Mexicans will march on Downtown, rally point near City Hall.
- there will be lots of cops, medical services will be standing by.
- I will be nowhere near there.
- they'd better have their papers on them.

Oh, I did ask for a little backup support on getting my computer (sold two items to Jamie Bergman to cover it), and I did ask for help getting an AGP card for said computer. (Which I got two, one was little buggy and was fixed, and one off my Amazon wishlist, which runs real nice.) I've since gotten a fairly stable job with an easy commute, and training for when they decide they don't need my temp ass. :D

They should thake the opportunity to send every illegal immigrant who shows up home, and take any natural born citizens (aka we crossed the border then gave birth) into child services. Make them get citizenship and learn english before tey can get their kids back.

I saw the video 'day without a mexican' it made me laugh. People would just find legal citizens to work those jobs.

Yes. But it's hard to round up 200k rioting and probably armed citizens in an urban area.
Let's hope there's not actually a riot.

Now, my firm beleif is that we need to tamp down on the border, kick out the illegals, and kick the asses of corporate management that stiffs US citizens. They're part of a reason the economy is so fucked. Granted, I feel sorry for them that they don't have the oppurtunity to get real jobs, but when Bush finally sells off the last of American diginity, we'll all be making below minimum wage while ceos live in castles.

LOL Woah! Nice bait. :D
I happened to be downtown at the main library right across the street from City Hall for both that last big march a few weeks ago as well as the walkout by the high school students. Other than being very noisy, they were very well behaved.

I don't think there will be any problems on Sunday.

SO AGAIN I ASK...is anyone in SL going to their own marches around the US or participating in "Without a Mexican Day" on Monday? Any protests in support planned for SL?

America is too far along the low road for that. Your business and goverment community for their own power/greed have allowed what amounts to unrestricted imigration to the United States. You have to face the truth, you have been invaded. I think it is too late to go backward.

I think the America of 50 years from now will be a very different place. That is of course if it is still a country. Perhaps the North American Union will be in place by then.

Am I bashing the United States, no of course not. I am just thinking about what is going to become of her and people. I dont like what is hapening with the politics. It is like watching a Greek Tradgey where you know the outcome and can not prevent it. If the United States fails it will not be from external forces, it will come from within. The country is very divided as well. The concept of red and blue states. Is this a civil war just waiting to happen? The two political parties hate each other so much.

Some people will flame me with such statements like "you have no right to talk about America foreigner" or "go back home". Hmmm... I will just say this, I have the right to live in the United States. How I have that will not say.

About all of the hispanic peoples? I hope you know how to speak Spanish! This is only the beginning!

No, Ranma, I won't flame you on this . :)

I agree, its too far gone, but that doesn't mean that I will give up the fight to make an attempt at righting the issue.

Preventing illegal immigrants from getting more benefits is a step in the right direction. I say take the children that are legal citizens into stae care and kick the illegal immigrant parent sout. that will change a few minds about 'have a baby and get to stay'

Yeah I know what y'all mean. I still regret that there weren't better immigration laws and enforcement when the fucking Mayflower showed up

Really, I hope you're not serious in your postings here. It would totally destroy my (admittedly limited) image of most of you. :(

There is a couple up here who openly admit to being illegal immigrants and have no intnetion of getting any form of legal citizenship..why are they allowed to stay in the US? Because of their child, born in southern california.

The child is a legal citizen and they won't take it away from the parents..so they end up not deporting them.

There really should be two choices: learn english, get a citizenship; or take your child back to the country you are a citizen of. There should be no border straddling because of a childs birth location.

Edit: we can't undo the past. We can only try to preserve the future for the children of LEGAL CITIZENS

If you want to know how extremely I feel for this issue, I think landowners should be able to shoot people crossing the border on their property as long as they have no trespassing signs up. And no, the signs don't have to be bilingual.

In one mexican border straddling state a mans land was taken form him and given to a pair of illegal immigrants he caused 'emotional stress' to when they wer ejumping the borde ron his property. I didn't know shooting respassers when it is posted was a land giveaway. The gov't needs to protect legal citizens and give those who are illegal immigrants nothing. This includes anything beyond life saving medical care, ship them out before they leave the hospital. Make it as hard as possible to illegally immigrate.

Yes, because the child care system in America is just so wonderful, we need is more kids to be in it.

if they are going to be legal citizens, no reason letting illegal immigrants stay in the country to raise them. the parents can naturalize or take the kid back to their home country. Easy choice.
