Is anyone else who has preordered this game or going to get it at launch interested in playing on the same DDO server? I think a lot of people from SL are going to be trying out this game, I loved the beta and I'm looking forward to getting to play it early.
This is the US server list:
Adar Aerenal Argonnessen Aundar Fernia Ghallanda Khyber Lhazaar Mabar Riedra Risia Sarlona Shavarath Tharask Thelanis Xoriat

Not going to play. But i would suggest the Sar Lona server. Seems fitting.

Look up what Turbine did with Asheron's Call 2, before you spend too much time in DDO. They'll just delete your character and everything there, too, when they move on to their next project.

From: Kami Harbinger Look up what Turbine did with Asheron's Call 2, before you spend too much time in DDO. They'll just delete your character and everything there, too, when they move on to their next project. Yet Asheron's Call remains very active. They pulled the plug on the second game because it did not do nearly as well as expected. Sony is currently experiencing that phenomenon with Everquest 2. The first Everquest continues to thrive. At least Sony is not rolling over and playing dead, they are trying everything they can to improve EQ2. Turbine made a difficult decision - having played Asheron's Call 2, it was always empty when I played it. I can't blame them for pulling the plug. I think the stakes are much higher for DDO than they were for Asheron's Call 2. The biggest factor won't be Turbine losing interest in it, it will be going head to head with the World of Warcraft juggernaut.

I didn't pre-order but I'm definately gonna get my hands on it shortly after release. I'd love to play on an SL-rez server so let me know what you decide.

I'll be there, since I've gotten my Pre-Order fixed. If possible we need to get at least 10 members in a guild for the Head Start so we can get a Founder's Helmet that will gives its wearer 5 extra Hit Points. More info can be found here: http://www.ddo.com/

I'd be interested also - didn't pre-order but will buy the game as soon as possible.

I didn't like the beta preview a few weeks back as far as gameplay goes. The graphics, however, were pretty stunning. As big a fan of D&D I am, I'll stick with WoW for now, then maybe switch to Guild Wars to save some money once my wow kick is over.

The biggest factor won't be Turbine losing interest in it, it will be going head to head with the World of Warcraft juggernaut. It's the first time any decent-sized MMORPG has just shut down completely and screwed all of their players. Everyone else scales back and consolidates servers, and keeps them on life support--AC2 still had 10K+ players, more than enough to support a server or two in the corner of the AC1 server farm. Back in the text-MUD heydey, that kind of collapse was common, and it earned many commercial admins a very bad reputation. To see it today is beyond appalling. Turbine's shown how they deal with products that don't live up to giant 100x profit expectations: they kill them. DDO is, as you note, facing WoW. Even if it does okay, it's not going to conquer the world, and Turbine will pull the plug. But if you don't feel like learning from others' experiences, go ahead. Write down "I told you so" on a piece of paper, and put it away for a while. You'll be needing it.

I'm sure I'll have quit long before then. I played in the Beta and it had much the same feel as CoH: interesting and fun play with little depth. I enjoyed the few months I played CoH and I think I will enjoy the few months I'll probably be in DDO, but I doubt it will have a long term draw for me. Still, I'm betting it will last longer than the 2-3 weeks that WoW lasted before I got bored.

Actually there was one called Earth & Beyond that shut down completely and it was done by Electronic Arts. So Asherons Call 2 wasn't the first.

Both Risia and Shavarath have been removed from the launch list, so the list is now: Adar Aerenal Argonnessen Aundair Fernia Ghallanda Khyber Lhazaar Mabar Riedra Sarlona Tharashk Thelanis Xoriat This is from the Official D & D Online Forums.

I'm there!

First let me thank you for bringing this game to my attention. Don't know where I've been to miss it since I have almost every D&D game out there. (Gee maybe SL?)
I will certainly be there as soon as my local store has it.
I think it would be great to have a Guild of SL'ers. Let me know if you decide to try to start one.

Apparently Thelanis will be the unofficial roleplay server. Post from the forums: From: someone Thelanis is the main Roleplay server, with Sarlona following up when people's tiny amount of character slots fills up, or Ghallanda for a semi-roleplay environment. I'm more just roleplay-friendly or light roleplay myself, but I'm going to Thelanis because I'd rather see fewer stupid names around. Many of the guilds have talked of shunning people with "uber leet" names for group and guild purposes. I'm rolling a character on Thelanis right now.

I'd love to get an SL guild together on one of the European servers but.. I've scoured the website for the system requirements to no avail.
Is this PC only? Or do we Mac folk get to play?

Sorry, Patroklus, DDO is PC only. Which is the only reason I own a PC (seeing as I'm a Mac person)

Bleh, the name Zuzu was already taken on Thelanis, I'm going to look for a server where I can have my name.
Edit: Created on Sarlona
