Vice President Dick Cheney has refused to accept the apology of the man he gunned down in cold blood, Harry Whittington. Whittington apologized for all the trouble he has caused Cheney after Cheney shot the elderly man directly in the face, neck, and heart. Cheney thus far, has not accepted the apology.

Well, no, not really. He said he was sorry that Cheney had to go through the fiasco he did over an accident. That seems like a reasonable statement. I can be sorry you're suffering from an ailment, for example, without appologising for it.

Do I think it was needed? No, but I don't think it's some insane thing either.

Haha! What will we come up with next?

"has not accepted the apology"... ROFL! Come on, are you even being serious?

I'm in awe that some people don't understand why HW apologized.

I don't get why he is apologizing to Cheney. Its not like he deliberately jumped in the line of fire. If he FORGAVE Cheney for shooting him, I could see the reasoning behind it. That's all I'm saying on the subject.

When you could no longer support your arument, you resorted to a cuss word to distract. This thread is just silly! I thought politics in Japan were silly but feel much better now! At least we do not resort to personnel attacks apon our opposition and stick to the facts, usually.

Really if you want to attack your political foe pick a issue of substance like their lack of fiscal control, etc. Making personnel attacks apon them causes them to unite toughter and for any swing people to turn away from the process in disgust.

No offense Ranma, but you really ought to look at for example, Australian parliamentary language.
Not every culture has "tatame" (not sure if ive spelt that right) or an equivalent.
It would be wrong of me applying my cultural values from Scotland, to a situation in Japan, likewise your cultural values do not apply outside your culture.

Are you sure about this? It is ok to do anything as long as you win? Anything goes no matter how dirty?

I see the rude behavior toward the American President harming their cause and not at all helping it. I could not ever vote for such people. It reminds me of the bully people that took control of Japan before the 2nd war, shouting down then killing or jailing their opposition.

In any case I am from Okinawa and have been called non Japanese from the person from the Western Capital. Our culture has elements of the South Pacific, China and Japan and our course our own core values.

My guess is that the GOP will win big in the next election. Perhaps even taking over 60 seats in your Senate and making the Democratic Party unable to resist them. Shrill actions of them will lead to their downfall.

Yes, I have to agree. I'm getting pretty sick of the demagogues on both ends of the political debates. I have come to the conclusion that neither the Lefties, nor the Righties know what the hell they're talking about.

Indeed!!

You said the following, "It would be wrong of me applying my cultural values from Scotland".

It looked to me that you are of Scotish hertiage, not that you are a National of Scotland. Many Americans have roots from there and call them selfs Scotish. Okinawa has many values that come either directly or indirectly from China.

The LDP (Liberal Democratic Party, Like the American Republican Party) of Japan has been pushing through reforms like making the post office private, making salarymen pay 30% of the medical bill not 20%, rasing the retirement age, etc). The democratic party of Japan attacked them and used some of the same tatics as the democratic pary of America but not as strongly. There were attacks on the PM of Japan. He disolved the lower house of Pariament and set elections. It was a blow out! The LDP captured over 2/3 of the seats. They and their allies are in firm control. Okinawa voted for Democratic canidates. I think that people did not like the personel attacks that were made apon the members of the LDP. Their tactics backfired on them.

60 is a lot, but I expect that they will maintain control of the house and senate and maybe pick up some seats. The presidency, on the other hand, is (sadly) much more of a personality contest than a matter of issues and so I think that is a matter of who runs a better sales campaign.

Cheney didn't shoot the man "in cold blood". Unless, of course the theory that Cheney is a vampire is true, then the whole "cold blood" thing might apply.

And Ranma, if you think being rude loses elections in the US you haven't been paying attention. Bush's two campaigns for president were notorious for their name-calling, baseless accusations and scandalous rumors. Spreading the rumors that John McCain was mentally ill from his time spent at the Hanoi Hilton, and that he had fathered a mixed race illegitimate child, and in 2004 using fake eye-witnesses to try to discredit John Kerry's service in Vietnam are just a few examples.

Sadly the only things that Bush and Cheney have "shot in cold blood" are the Constitution, the budget surplus, the environment, and our international reputation.

You forgot to turn on your bias filter when you read "in cold blood", man.

And I think you also forgot to turn your Democrat rudeness filter off, but we'll let that slide.
