http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/11/10/religion.robertson.reut/index.html Robertson warns Pennsylvania voters of God's wrath Eight 'intelligent design' school board members lost election Thursday, November 10, 2005; Posted: 5:27 p.m. EST (22:27 GMT) WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Conservative Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson told citizens of a Pennsylvania town that they had rejected God by voting their school board out of office for supporting "intelligent design" and warned them Thursday not to be surprised if disaster struck. Robertson, a former Republican presidential candidate and founder of the influential Christian Broadcasting Network and Christian Coalition, has made similar apocalyptic warnings and provocative statements before. Last summer, he hit the headlines by calling for the assassination of leftist Venezuelan Present Hugo Chavez, one of President George W. Bush's most vocal international critics. "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city," Robertson said on his daily television show broadcast from Virginia, "The 700 Club." "And don't wonder why He hasn't helped you when problems begin, if they begin. I'm not saying they will, but if they do, just remember, you just voted God out of your city. And if that's the case, don't ask for His help because he might not be there," he said. The 700 Club claims a daily audience of around one million. It is also broadcast around the world translated into more than 70 languages. In voting on Tuesday, eight Dover, Pennsylvania, school board members up for re-election lost their seats after trying to introduce a statement on "intelligent design" to high school biology students. Adherents of intelligent design argue that certain forms in nature are too complex to have evolved through natural selection and must have been created by a "designer." Opponents say it is the latest attempt by conservatives to introduce religion into the school science curriculum. The Dover case sparked a trial in federal court that gained nationwide attention after the school board was sued by parents backed by the American Civil Liberties Union. The board ordered schools to read students a short statement in biology classes informing them that the theory of evolution is not established fact and that gaps exist in it. The statement mentioned intelligent design as an alternate theory and recommended students read a book that explained the theory further. A decision in the case is expected before the end of the year. In 1998, Robertson warned the city of Orlando, Florida that it risked hurricanes, earthquakes and terrorist bombs after it allowed homosexual organizations to put up rainbow flags in support of sexual diversity. Why does anyone care what Pat Robertson thinks or says? I don't listen to him, nor does anyone I know. Seems like it gives him power when we talk about him.

Pat Roberts told the citizens of Dover, Pennsylvania, not to be surprised if disaster struck? There's a self-fulfilling prophecy - as anything that Roberts touches can be considered a disaster.

Don't you kind of wish the Christians weren't so damn CHRISTIAN, and would like, cut out the tongues of their spokespeople every time they damaged their God's reputation? ah well, good thing I'm "neo-Pagan".

Why is Pat Roberts even news? He and his two dozen followers are too predictable for news.

I pay close attention to what he says, because he represents the hearts and minds of many who think the same but don't openly say it. He didn't get where he is because nobody agreed with him. He is unwavering in his righteousness, in a position to sway major political parties in the United States, and has terrified the heads of foreign governments with his comments. Look the other way at your own risk.

You've got to be kidding, right Desmond? He's a nut. Telling people that god has abandon them because of they way they vote is bizarre to say the least - not to mention judgemental.

You don't want to leave a crazy person unatteneded or they may do something really harmful.

I assure you he has plenty of political clout and followers. Does it make sense? Not to me - but it doesn't have to make sense to me. It's a fact. Dare we ever ignore such voices in the world? History has proven 'looking away' to be a very dangerous thing. I would always keep one eye on people like this.

Look the other way at your own risk. Desmond, I have to agree with you in that he is voicing the opinion of millions. He's a TV personality, just like Rush. Rush had a huge following as well. Rush may have contributed to a change in government, but not in attitudes. Rush was voicing the opinions of millions who were not being heard (at the time the media was heavily slanted to the left). The media laughed at the opinions, but not any more. They wer called dittoheads because they agreed with Rush, as if agreeing meant they needed Rush to make an opinion. There is a chance the constant attack on American values will cause a backlash, forcing amendments to the constitution. When 90-95% of American's believe in God, it's just a matter of time till they clearify what was clearly intended by the founders. Now the court (justice scale) is tilting back toward the center, the weight from momentum might swing it too far because it's swinging so far from the left.

Point of fact... the US constitution was born from colonies that each refused to let the other 12 tell them how to think and believe, especially with regard to religion. An almost serious argument could be made, that 13 fringe religious groups figured out how to get along simply to *maintain* their religious differences. The history of Massachusetts and Rhode Island bear this out. Nobody wanted church and state mixed together in the USA in the beginning, for fear that their church wouldn't be the favoured one. "Good morning class. We shall now recite the pledge." “I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under Allah, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

The problem was in England they nationalized a specific Christian religion. Any Christians who disagreed were killed. The founders wanted freedom to practice any religion you want. That's why the congress isn't allowed to create a government sponsored church. We all are in agreement, we don't want a Church of the USA. I'm all for killing any pledge. But I think they should have some kind of show of respect for those who died making the USA free. Edit: Allah means God.
