Tonight was a lucky night for a very arrogant young lady in a white mercedes and myself.

Tonight I seriously - and I do mean seriously, contemplated putting my car in gear and running over this young woman. Truly I am horrified that I had the thought, let alone that I came so close as to actually have put my car in gear.

I have been a little stressed, trying to move, sell a house, hurricane Katrina, then Wilma, house damage with both, months of remodeling, yada, yada yada. Just, you know. Stress.

Also - new anti-seizure medication, does weird stuff, I don't know.

Anyway, I stop at the gas station and most of the pumps are out of service and she is sitting at one of the few in service. Just sitting there. I pull in behind her, someone pulls in behind me. I sit patiently for awhile, she just sits there, jabber, jabber, jabber on her cell phone. Finally I get out of the car and ask her if she intends to use the pump, you know, 'cause if not, it would be nice if she could pull up and let someone else use it and she says "Yes - I'll use it in a minute" and continues to sit in her car and jabber, jabber, jabber.

FINALLY - she gets out of the car and gives me "THE LOOK" and continues to jabber, jabber, jabber on the cell phone and slowly AND I MEAN SLOWLY, sets up to pump her gas with one hand, all the while TALKING ON HER F*cking cell phone.

I had a clear shot with my car and OMG - I am SO ashamed, I really, seriously considered it. I did not get gas. I pulled out of the gas station and went home without gas because I was so afraid of what I was feeling.

Seriously though, sometimes even the most kind people who would never do something awful have that moment when .... damn. That gave me pause for sure.

:(

I hate "The Look."

People who use it are assholes regardless of context.

That's what my husband said - man, people should think about it though because I was truly just a gas pedal away from going postal.

I kid you not.

Tank ooo for the hug Weedy - I think I needed one tonight. :p

I would've done it. Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead! Plus there is a good chance she would've attacked you, so you could counter her charges with assault charges.....maybe? Anyway.. I would've have done it, good for you though showing more restraint than most. :)

TY for asking Katt - Nah - I'm just venting I guess, [what I thought was the] last straw for me was when the POD people called this weekend and said my move was posponed Sunday yet again for the fifth time because they cannot get a truck to me because of hurricane Wilma. (after I got the POD all loaded with all my furniture and stuff, I saw there was another tropical depression out there, all I can say is that if it turns into a hurricane that heads in this direction I am SO moving to freakin Iceland). LOL

I've been trying sell one house and move to the other since Katrina hit.

Someone once said that if you want to find something, quit looking. Maybe I should just quit trying to leave and the place will eject me? One can only hope. :p :D

Rose,

out her. Write this exact story up and send it to your paper - and include a description, and how it ruined your night. With luck, she'll know somebody who reads and can translate for her. worst case, a lot of girls in white mercedes have to be nice for a week or two :)

Hugs,

Taco

OMG - Taco, LOL that's like half of Miami - and a great idea. I suspect that manners on the express way might improve for a day or two at least if they thought that every frazzled middle aged woman they saw driving a ten year old crysler was border line postal! :p

Does your car have one of those "Panic Button" features on a remote? Is it loud? If it is next time this happens you can set it off, and then pretend your car is going crazy and you can't stop it. this should create enough noise to interupt the cell phone conversation and get them moving.

You can also hold the horn button down and pretend its stuck as well :D

I agree with what Taco said. Never underestimate the power of the written word. Also... remember the scene in Fried Green Tomatoes when Kathy Bates' character rams her car into the back end of a car bc the owner of the car stole her parking space. If you should ever have that feeling again, just think "Towanda!!!!!!!" and smile. :D

my whole point is that we all are, supahstah, and a 'who's good' thread means you're saying that other people are less good. I'll punch your ticket anytime, sister.

This thread has me confused? Why didnt the man talk to the gas station person and have him talk to the ofending lady. Thus nobody would of been ofended.

Why was the night lucky for the girl? Blocking the petrol pump rates a death sentance? I understand lucky for the man though. He will not be spending his time in the Federal Long Stay Hotel.

Give me some insight.

Rose,

If it's any consolation, she was at another gas station in a Honda Civic talking on her cell phone and I wanted to run her over too. Nothing like hurricane weary power deprived gasoline shortage induced road rage, eh?

* hug *

Well, American cell phone rudeness and road rage are a bit difficult to explain to someone that hasn't experienced the unique pressures of day to day life here. Additionally, Rose and others in her area are dealing with some extreme conditions brought on by a devastating hurricane that hit South Florida at the end of October. People who are patient in normal circumstances find themselves pushed to the limit and reacting in ways they would not expect when they have had their lives turned upside down.

Holding up a gas pump is certainly not something worthy of death. Her post was more about the impulse to just want to crash into this woman because of her unbelievable rudness. A reaction like that is the product of a combination of things - mostly being overstressed from recent events. Many people here are suffering the after effects both financially and emotionally of this hurricane, and it has taken a toll on people. It has been several weeks and I still don't feel like myself completely - I still feel this weird sense of angst and fleeting depression - so I can understand Rose's shock at her own reaction.

That is just typical class warfare bullshit - rude drivers are rude drivers, it doesn't matter the make and model of the car.

Really? I live in South Florida, filled with a high percentage of Mercedes, BMWs, Porshes etc, along with the entire spectrum of other cars. I drive a Mercedes myself. I'm not an asshole to people, don't force people to get out of the way. People are horrible drivers here - and a good percentage of the time it is someone in some beat up POS car. The point is that assholes transcend the entire financial spectrum.
