How to start an argument

I need some ideas. How do you start an argument with someone who avoids arguing? How can you really piss someone off and make it not seem intentional?

Question 1: What's the subject?

Question 2: Say exactly what will most gratify your ego and your need to be right.

You can also belittle someone without overtly calling them out- question their authority, competence, or intelligence by using euphemisms and general pronouns in place of direct or proper ones. That kind of approach really eats at people when they have a moment alone to think about it because it mightn't have been enough to provoke them at the time, but they'll resent the fact that they should've done something and didn't.

Just start off with something like "I don't remember asking you a damn thing." when they tell you something, anything. And then follow up on it and manufacture a lot of false reasoning and pretense of hatred. That should do the trick pretty well :}

No subject in particular. Just in general passing or casual conversation.

Ask my ex boyfriend, he's a pro at it.

1. Ask them something, perfectly innocently and as non-confrontationally as you can manage.

2. Respond to their opinion, but get it wrong, so that you're actually responding to something different.

3. They say "no, no, that's not what I meant, I said X, that's not what I said" and try to clarify.

4. Go back to step 2 based on their "clarification".

This annoys people more than anything, as long as they're the discursive type and don't know the trick.

I would, but somebody might not be able to understand it.

No, of course not. You're a genius, everybody knows that. What I'm trying to say is that... well, it's too complicated. Nevermind.

Even worse is when someone asks you for something that demands you give a detailed explanation and then they immediately follow up your explanation with a simple phrase that shows they don't care and are completely wasting your time.

Example from my life:

Old woman to me when going somewhere: Excuse me, do you know how to get to Jefferson?

Me: (pauses to give very detailed explanation. Halfway through, her eyes glaze over.)

Old woman (immediately when I finish): Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

Hey, I didn't single you out. If you think I'm picking on you, then that's a personal issue to be worked out between you and a qualified professional.

Believe me... same instinct. I immediately turned around and walked briskly away without pausing.

Hehe. I generally keep my interpersonal emotional outbursts on a tight leash because I don't want to become my mother. But that doesn't mean I won't work out my frustrations on a dumpster or steel door.
