It was so sad :( I wouldn't have traded immortality for "humanity" though.

That's because you currently have the latter and don't have the former.

His situation was reversed. :)

Gosh, my mind scatters... but... reading these lists are refreshers... here are 14 (which is like 10) of my faves in no particular order, mostly named from what I see here. With a personal note fer each one! These are great flicks which I resonated emotionally with for one reason or another.
  1. Run Lola Run
Techno music, parallel timelines, and those cartoon scenes.
  2. Edward Scissorhands
Remember that scene with the hedge animals? I really relate to that. The cinematography was haunting, and Danny Elfman's music was a perfect fit (as it was in that Pee-Wee movie, which almost made my list!).
  3. The Truman Show
The whole aspect of voyeurism got into my head. That, and Philip Glass appearing as himself behind the keyboard.
  4. Bicentennial Man
I'm a longtime fan of Asimov, so that in itself doesn't come as a surprise. I just adored the epic generational scope of this film, and how one woman looked very much like her granddaughter. I like movies where unhumans become more human than humans. And yup the choice at the end was a tearchoker for me!
  5. Adaptation
I like most, if not all Charlie Kaufman+Spike Jonze films. The ending of this, and all the plot "twists" along the way were faboo!
  6. Boondock Saints
My bro saw this film in art school, and then he recommended it to me, so we both watched it. Little did we know at the time that at Thanksgiving feasts later, I'd be saying a prayer from this film as grace. How nicely it has worked out!
  7. Happy Gilmore
Adam Sandler and Bob Barker together in the same screen. I can't ask for more than that. I am inspired by Sandler's role of being a comic underdog.
  8. Freddy Got Fingered
In my book, better than Citizen Kane. An unrivaled cinematic masterpiece. Saying "unique" is insulting. FGF is a true testament to observing the human condition. Poetic, stark, blunt, and gripping. My late Dad was kinda like Rip Torn too. Sigh.
  9. The Shawshank Redemption
BEST STEPHEN KING MOVIE EVAR? What a theme of hope, integrity, salvation, and one of my fave actors, Morgan Freeman. Tim Robbins is great too. The whole cast is wonderful. Gosh, what a masterpiece.
  10. Donnie Darko
I love a lot of time travel movies.
  11. 12 Monkeys
Yeah, I love a lot of time travel movies.
  12. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure
Yeahhh... I LOVE A LOT OF TIME TRAVEL MOVIES!
  13. Appleseed
The celshaded computery movie. Worth it for the old men who say DOOOONAN NOOTAY alone. Liquid battle scenes.
  14. Casshern
With the budget they had to work with, it's amazing what they came up with. No, the story doesn't make sense, but I've never seen anything else with such wall-to-wall gripping emotion scenes counterpointed against the grinding action of killing robots. Bonus points for kickass breakbeat Mondo Grosso track! Liquid battle scenes.

:) Thanxies Sydney, I have many other faves also already named. Amelie is certainly a fave but I'm just not feeling in the mood for it right now, say if I were to choose from any films at this moment.

Lianne, one moment, I kid ya not, I was driving down the highway and listening to the radio and all of a sudden I hear the familiar, longing piano chords from the score of The Shawshank Redemption. It starts to rain. I stop the car by the side of the road (it's night, and besides, I'm a lousy driver) and I thrust my hands out in the air and lighting strikes RIGHT at that moment as the rain washes down. All of a sudden, it sounds like a heavy BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM... and I'm like "WHAT THE HECK???"

It sounds like the guy from "Kiss from a Rose" singing... turns out it IS Seal, doing vox on Jakatta's remix of that instrumental cue, called "My Vision".

My gosh... what a beautiful moment. So I crank up the volume, and I bust out dancing in the rain.

Off the top of my head...

Cold Mountain
The Exorcist
Princess Bride
The Godfather, Part II
Big Trouble in Little China
City of Lost Children
Alien
Star Trek II (... just for 'KHAAAAAAN!')
Superman II (... just for 'KNEEL before ZOD!')
Real Genius

... and... Torley, Freddy Got Fingered is the only movie that I ever just abandoned. I made it through about forty-five minutes before I had to flee the theater. Different strokes and all that... but just seeing it mentioned sent chills of horror down my spine...
