STARKVILLE - "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth," and 6,000 years later, according to a society at Mississippi State University, scientists will gather to prove it.

The Society for the Advancement of Creation Science, whose purpose is "to strengthen people's faith in the Creator and his Word," will hold its first lecture series July 17-20 at Dorman Hall Auditorium on MSU's campus. Worship starts at 6:30 each evening, and the lectures will begin at 7:30 p.m. The event is open to the public.

Dr. John Sanford, who will present the July 17 lecture, is the primary inventor of the gene gun process. His research has been used to engineer most of the world's transgenic crops.

"My talk will be for non-specialists," Sanford said. "I will show that evolutionary theory - mutation plus natural selection equals evolution - can be conclusively shown to be false."

In his lecture, Sanford will show that if the evolutionary theory were true, then humans would be degenerating, not evolving, as a species.

"Mutations cause genetic degeneration, and selection can slow, but cannot stop, this degenerative process," he said.

Sanford says as a Christian and a scientist he had dodged the question of evolution for a long time.

"I just avoided the issue in my head and imagined God created through evolution," he said.

Sanford says as he later considered the non-evolutionary perspective, examining the scientific evidence for creationism, he was impressed.

"Since then, I have seen rapidly growing evidence supporting the biblical view," he said. "Unfortunately, this evidence is largely suppressed through the media and schools so only the determined seekers find it."

Dr. Mark Horstemeyer, who holds a chair position in mechanical engineering at MSU, hopes the lecture series will help raise the next generation of Christian faculty members.

Upcoming scientists "can do research with a biblical frame of reference," Horstemeyer said, "in the same spirit as the great scientists Pascal, Kelvin, Faraday and Newton. A rational God created a rational universe. We've gotten away from that over the last 100 years or so."

The other lectures include "Thousands, Not Billions - Radioisotope Evidence for a Young World" July 18 by Dr. Russell Humphreys, a retired nuclear physicist; "Tectonic Catastrophe and the Geologic Record" July 19 by Dr. John Baumgardner, a retired Los Alamos geophysicist; and "Evidences for Recent Geological Catastrophe" July 20 by Dr. Steve Austin, a professor of geology at the Institute for Creation Research in Santee, Calif.

What color is the Sun?
The simple answer to this question is that the Sun is yellow. Go outside and see for yourself. (But don't hurt your eyes by looking for a long time.)
For our purpose of determining the temperature of the surface of the Sun, a more precise answer is that the intensity versus wavelength curve for sunlight peaks near 500 nm.

But the question "What color is the Sun?" raises an interesting issue that is more closely related to biology and psychology than to physics. Physically, sunlight is a mixture of photons of different wavelengths. This particular mixture is very close to the color we call white. This is particularly true if we put back the predominantly blue light that is scattered out of a sunbeam as it comes from the Sun and passes through the Earth's atmosphere before it reaches our eyes. Why do we call this color white? Presumably, it is because after many hundreds of millions of years of evolution, our eyes and brains are adapted to viewing things that are illuminated with this particular mixture of photons. Then when humans started giving names to colors, they chose a special name for the special mixture that their eyes and brains were adapted to seeing.

I love the evolution part :)

Hah, you thought we forgot this.

Hah, you thought we forgot this.

You are quoting a quote. Not something I said. Notice the link? The same can be said for this thread, I posted an article that seemed interesting, for the sake of discussion. I haven't seen the Doctor's evidence. :)

this is the first line of these"scientists" webpage;

Our purpose is to strengthen people's faith in the Creator and His Word.
By faith in what God has revealed through His Holy scriptures, we believe that God created the world in six 24-hour days about 6000 years ago and that science supports this claim. We believe that the Creator is Jesus Christ and we desire that all men come to know Him.

im still trying to find the "science" on their site....hmmm

Not the part about the age of the earth. And I was using a source that I thought your side would accept. That source would have to believe in evolution and the old Earth theory for you to accept the other information.

BBL, have fun :)

Oh, the link to the article.....

LOL 6000 years.

Oh yea, that stuff called "carbon dating" is totally bunk. All those dinosaur fossils fell to the earth inside meteors and stuff (see, the planet with the dinosaurs was your gods experimental planet and they really weren't here) about.......6000 years ago. LOL

But really.. there are other christian groups that will say the Earth is millions of years old and that dinosaurs were left out of the bible because god found their inclusion unnecessary.

No matter what is said they have all the angles covered.

What makes these people experts, Kevn?

It's not enough to simply call someone an expert, you realise, right? I mean, I could call my friend Bob an expert on nuclear physics. I would be in error, but I could do it.

What makes them experts? They have white lab coats, a few Bunsen burners, and lots of Pyrex glassware around. Everyone knows that if someone has that sort of stuff sitting around, they just have to be experts at something.

I vote for experts on making meth, if that's all we have to go on. :D

Bob is a many-talented individual, yes. He even released an album, "The Many Faces of Bob", but he bought every copy himself to shoot himself to the top of the best seller list.

Does ANYONE here (besides poor Kevn) really believe that the earth is 6000 years old?

Eyes wide open, people.

More creationism junk,

I would actually love to see the CHRISTIANS in this forum explain to Kevn why not seeking enlightenment and knowledge can be harmful. I imagine most of the Christians here are well aware that the earth is not 6000 years old as well.

What's even funnier than that... Is that Dr. Kent Hovind, leader in the field of Creation Science Evangelism, thinkts that T-Rex's were so weak that any person could just walk up to it and pull off one of the small arms. He claimed people did this "all the time" leading to their death/extinction.

I've enjoyed watching ALL of the Kent Hovind videos. I really have never laughed so hard (since the first season of the Chapelle show).

I bet they also have that thing with the two antennaes and the arc of electricity that goes "zzzzzzurrrrpp!!" between them. All *real* scientists have those.

This is a new one for me. I always thought Kent was insane. Now I know he is. How stupid can he get?
