From: Cristiano Midnight Actually, I think Jeb would make a far better president than his father, and certainly better than George. Granted, a rock could be a better president than a fucktard like GWB. I voted twice for Jeb for governor of Florida. He has been an excellent governor, and by comparison to the rest of his family he seems much more in touch with normal people and not a puppet for corruption. Granted, there is a difference between governor and president, and I would definitely not like to see any Bush ever in the Whitehouse again, but as far as presidential candidates go, Jeb would be tough to beat. I pretty much agree with this. Jeb has been an good governor really. Outside of the Schiavo fiasco, which I seriously disagreed with and think he should have stayed out of, I think he has done a reasonable job. He is far smarter and far more compassionate than his brother or any of the rest of the family from what I can see. I think the man actually has convictions and sticks to them and that he may actually not want to be president, for what it's worth. The reason I would not vote for Jeb for president is because I think that the Bush dynasty has had their run as the royal family of this country. I'm really sick of politicians pandering to corporate interests, big oil, all the while ignoring the infastructure of our country (roads, dams, parks, levys, railroads, etc). I travel a lot and I've been looking around at things - and I can't help but think that we are begining to look a little "third world". Stuff is beginning to fall apart because we are not fixing it and updating it. All the money is going to lobbyist, and Exon Mobile. I don't think we need a chicken in every pot - I think we need a guy with a shovel on every road. Just my 2 lindens. .

From: Usagi Musashi HELL Marcus Moreau FOR PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOHHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Write me in in 2008! Woot. I seriously would probably (and have) vote Democrat because of the issues I support. Of course in 04 both sides of the spectrum sucked donkeys and I voted based on said issues, not the person. So who knows what will happen in 08. If Hillary is in there, not sure I'd stick with the Demos. One thing I will say: I would probably still have rather had a Republican in the White House after 911 than a Democrat. Otherwise, we'd be Osama's bitch by this time. MM

From: Rose Karuna I don't think we need a chicken in every pot - I think we need a guy with a shovel on every road. Fuck, if you want that, come to Michigan. Or better yet, steal our government, I don't want it! MDOT - the orginization that never sleeps. Roadwork is constant in Michigan - any directions you get off mapquest for more than 20 miles will probably run you through roadwork somewhere. Which would be fine and dandy, but I'm sick of traffic slowdowns because a traffic is being detoured around a 20 mile strip of missing road, or the speed limit is down to 20 because of men working.

It's a symbolic figure of speech Reitsuki. It could be work on dams, ports, levys, new sources of energy or water, or even application of more resources to complete road work faster so you are slowed down to 20 mph for less time. I don't necessarily think that they have to work for uncle sam either - I could care less whether they work directly for the government or we contract them, we just need to focus on getting the work done - here in the good old US of A. .

Personally I think Jeb will only run if Hillary doesn't.
Mostly because the only way to beat a strong and intelligent female candidate is to compete with an intelligent female minority candidate. Edit: That would be Condoleeza Rice, for those who have been living under a rock.

From: Corvus Drake Personally I think Jeb will only run if Hillary doesn't. If Hillary runs it doesn't matter who the Republicans put up there. Hillary is too polarizing and she'll never win over enough middle of the road voters to make up the difference. When Bill was president, he remained a moderate, while Hillary was often seen as more left leaning. Bill managed to stay moderate, for one thing the disasterous health care reform proposal was deflected from him to... Hillary. Sadly both Jeb and Hillary are compentent in the own right, but perception is more important than ability in presidential races.

This time I think it's going to be more a game of the Republicans trying to regain credibility, as well, meaning if Hil's going to run, now's the time. The fact that the last Republican admiinstration will have shot someone in the face with a hunting rifle, started an illegal war that led to a divided government, failed in that war horribly, has a President being mulled over for possible impeachment charges, the failed response to 9/11 still fresh in memory, the fact that the Assistant Director of Homeland Security was picked up on child pornography charges recently, the "rats leaving the sinking ship", etc, will make a great "Why should we expect differently from you, Mr. Republican?" cudgel.

Yes, the upcoming elections are not about winning for the Democrats, they're about not losing. Sadly, when their "vision" is: "we're not as corrupt as the other guys" then they might just do that. I didn't like Bill Clinton when he ran the first time, but after seeing his performance in his first term I was converted. I'm still not sure how the Democrats managed to lose sight of the vision that he had.

And how's that going, eh? That catching Osama? You really have some nerve. This is offensive beyond belief. We were 'Osama's Bitches' on 9/11 precisely because there was a Republican in the White House on 9/10. Or do you really want me to quote you some Ashcroft and his 'quit talking about Osama' as related by Pickering, remind you of Condi Rice and her 'historical document,' remind you of Anti-Ballistic Missiles as a pre-9/11 priority, and direct you to Richard Clarke all over again? As someone who lived in NYC on 9/11 and lost friends, the way you and other fools use this issue sickens me to my core. NYC voted 89% against Bush for a reason.

From: Reitsuki Kojima Right. Because "Dubbya" is a stupid monkey. Except when he's an evil mastermind. But then he's a stupid monkey again. Until he's an evil mastermind again. I've never thought President Bush was either a stupid monkey or an evil mastermind. I think that he is a person of average intelligence and moderate capability pretty much owned and managed by the interests that got him elected. If he hadn't been born a Bush, I think he would be a very successful used car salesman in some small Texas town. I grew up in Texas and my family were all Republicans. It was the old-guard Republican matrons who nicknamed George W. the Texas Souffle. While I disagreed with many of the elder President Bush's policies, I never doubted his intelligence or ability to do the job. It's a shame that Jeb is the younger son, because although I'm sure I would have disagreed with some of his ideas, he at least seems experienced, intelligent, and competent.

I pretty much agree with this 100% (except I'm not from Texas ) I don't know anything about Jeb's abilities as I live on the west coast. But I do admit that my first thought at seeing “Jeb for President” was “omg, not another one!”. Like it or not, the Bush name associates him with the current President Bush and his abilities/policies. However, I do like to think that if he ran I would try to have an open mind and judge him by what he says/does during the campaign. That's what I like to think anyway....

There's a real difference in what is reality and what the Republican party says. A real difference. Americans are slowly waking up to the fact that the right has abandoned its values and become a mouthpiece for wealthy multinational corporations. So maybe this time they won't believe everything the talk radio morons chatter on about. And what was disastrous about the health care reform proposal, other than it was shot down by wealthy corporate interests? Does anyone really think that the system we have now is better than the one proposed by Clinton? Real income in this country has declined, and one of the major reasons is the skyrocketing cost of health care.

And what was disastrous about the health care reform proposal, other than it was shot down by wealthy corporate interests? That's my point, perceptions are what matter. If she can reverse the image she has then she may have a shot, but its gonig to be an uphill battle since many have already made up their minds. Very few even looked at the health care plan, but again it's the perception of it (big government, socialism, etc..). I thought a lot of the ideas in the health care plan were good, but the marketing was poor and it solidified the image of Hillary as strongly liberal. I'd vote for her if she ran, but I don't think she would win.
